The thing is once there I don't think anyone really notices that someone has worn something before. Perhaps those on the same table might, but goodness me, these formal things are expensive for the few times they get worn. The 'formal' dress I had for the '08 PC cruise I only wore three times(used for Palo). The one I wore for semi formal night on that cruise I also wore for formal on the Eastern last September, so that was worn 3 or 4 times. I just don't do anything remotely formal or dressy in normal life.:lmao::lmao: It is all a real splurge.

Only weddings and cruises do I dress up at all anymore. That's why I try to find the clearance items and then use the dresses for several cruises. :thumbsup2 My "semi-formal" is also quite acceptable for weddings back at home as well.

I just occured to me we are in single week digits, We are at 9 weeks and 2 days until we leave, and 9 days 4 days until we set sail.
Yes, 9 weeks, single digit!!!!! :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:
Yes....I know....small things........but It is a bit of excitement in my day I wanted to share!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

We leave home in EIGHT weeks and 5 days!!! :dance3::woohoo:

Spending a week in Alicante visiting family and then taking flight to Barcelona on the 8th for the Med trip so will catch up with all of you on board.

Have a great trip!

DH (David) is turning 60th in December, we are celebrating early, from all the messages I am reading 1950 must have been a good year????
Burnice

It was a very good year!

1950 was certainly a good year! I'm among those celebrating a 60th, although mine is in August (i.e., next month).

And, as the caption of the cartoon of the guy stopped for speeding goes, "But officer, didn't you hear? 60 is the new 40!" :lmao:

Richard

Excellent year!!! Happy birthday year to all of us!!

Too funny!!

We need to have a small celebration for all of us who are turning 60 this year!! A 1950 type celebration, I suppose!!

Still busy with unpacking and other catching up but here are some photos my nephew Rob posted of the wedding rehearsal dinner at the Paradise Ridge Winery, the Vintners Inn and afterward at the bar at the John Ash Restaurant.

Great photos ... everyone looks as though they are having a ball and the venue looks lovely. We don't tend to have a "rehearsal dinner" here or even a rehearsal come it think of it ( well we didn't ). Do you do it the day before the wedding?

Remember a few years ago when we all go together in Diversions for the Champagne Girls party? We ALL had pink boas and plastic tiaras....I still have mine! And Cherie dressed as Tinkerbelle?

Sounds wonderful .... could we do this ???? I would love to be a champagne girl :thumbsup2

Weight Watchers is great! I really enjoy the program because you can go out for dinner with friends and family and not worry because you can always eat something on the menu. My Weight Watcher leader just got back from a cruise and she only gained 1 pound! I thought that was pretty impressive!
That is impressive. I would be happy with 1lb a day weight gain. Over 14 days that would be a stone weight gain and so long as I lose a few lbs before I go I could live with that :thumbsup2

I don't have many photos of my creations and the once I have are not very good. I have never gotten the hang of photographing jewellery, but here are some of my creations:

Well the mystery of my blood results is now sorted - well sort of. The second lot of bloods taken didn't go missing (Thank God) but unfortunately I am aneamic and need Iron tablets. Luckily it doesn't look like its being caused by anything serious so just Iron tablets for God knows how long.

Krisann those Exlax chocolates might be needed if the horror stories I've been reading about Iron tablets are true lol!

Don't forget to take your iron tabs with orange juice and you will absorb it better if you don't take caffeine an hour before or after. Plenty of fruit and veg and don't forget the prunes if needs must.

You mean you actually CHANGE your socks .... :rotfl2:

Better question: you mean you actually WEAR socks?!? I will be avoiding socks for most of this cruise altogether! During the summer I try to wear non-sandal/flip flop shoes as seldom as possible. EVen when we are dressed for dinner I wear sandals with my khaki pants and dress shirts and ties....I can't stand shoes. The only solid shoes we will bring will be our tux shoes which we'll wear on formal nights and which we also wear under our boot covers on pirate night....but beyond that I will have sandals on all the time I'm able to!! :thumbsup2

Been a bit crazy around here trying to catch up. Taking my GD Bailey on Wednesday to SIL Terry's Lake House until next week, so probably not going to post much but will be reading as much as possible.

I am still on top of pins and Madeira trip. If anything important comes up and you think I might miss it, please either email or PM me.

I can't get these links to work Noel :confused3

So wish I could find something like this!

Sarah

I'll be happy to fax, scan or mail you a copy of a page that you could copy. I've never seen them again at Michael's or I'd pick you up one. I'm a list maker too, (former Project Manager) but even my husband found it a real help. Val

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: DH and I are not 1950, but close enough! In fact, I'm 2 1/2 months older than DH, but what makes it look bad is that they are different years.

You think that's bad? I'm ten YEARS older than my dh!:rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Rob, my nephew (sandieman) put this slideshow together for Erik and Jess's rehearsal dinner. Slideshow went through Erik and Jess growing up and eventually crossing paths. My DH John is holding Erik while Rob is kissing Erik's head in the first 5 seconds of the video.

Erik and Jessica Rehearsal Slideshow

For those who have lots of time even more pics of the wedding.

More pictures of Erik and Jessica's wedding.

I can't get these links to work Noel :confused3

I can't get the photo links to work either Noel :confused3 The slide show is wonderful though, what a great idea! :)

Update, 10 a.m. EDT: A Carnival spokesman confirms this morning that the vehicle involved in the St. Thomas incident was "an open-top multi-passenger taxi"; these are commonly referred to as "safaris."

(3 a.m. EDT) -- A 14-year-old cruise passenger has died after being caught in a crossfire in the popular Coki Beach area of St. Thomas.

A statement from Carnival this morning indicates that although the family was not on a shore excursion sold by the ship, the line is suspending all excursions that include the Coki Beach area until further notice. The Associated Press has reported that the teenage girl, Lizmarie Perez Chapparro from Puerto Rico, had been travelling on Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Victory with her family, when they took a trip ashore to Coki Point Beach on Monday.

The Associated Press reports that the victim was travelling on a packed safari bus at the time of the shootings; however, Carnival's statement indicates she was riding in a tourist taxi. We're awaiting clarification on those details.

According to local police, via Carnival's statement, preliminary findings suggest the family was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle between local gangmembers. Another cruise ship passenger sustained a minor injury during the shootout.

Cruise Critic members onboard the voyage have posted on the message boards to say they were told of the sad news in a letter from Captain Salvatore Messina.

The letter reads: "A small group of guests, participating in independent sightseeing activities, were victims of a random exchange of gun-fire between local residents while en route to the Coki Beach area in St. Thomas. Tragically a 14 year old female guest was fatally injured and one other guest sustained minor injuries."

Carnival's CareTeam staff are supporting the family and other guests. Arrangements have been made by the St. Thomas Ministry of Tourism to fly the family home to Puerto Rico.

Carnival Victory operates year-round seven-day Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship departed San Juan on Sunday, July 11.

"Carnival Cruise Lines is profoundly shocked and saddened by this tragedy," the statement continues, "and we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the victim's family and loved ones in the wake of this unfathomable act of senseless violence."

Our thoughts go out to the families and friends affected by this tragic event.

How awful! We loved Coki beach when we went there, and its awful to see such a tragedy there. That poor family, my heart goes out to them.

:littleangel:

That is such a tragedy on St Thomas. Very sad.

Love those silver sandals!! I want!!!!!!!:lmao:

My friends have warned me that cigarette smoke is everywhere in Spain. For those of us that have major health issue with this it may be a problem. They advise that even in the best restaurants requests for a non-smoking section is a huge joke to them. Anyway, a recent travel column by Christopher Elliott suggests you contact the hotel directly to confirm your request for a non-smoking room and be prepared for your room not to be smoke free. Have any of you a suggestion on how to deal with this? val

ATTENTION ALL DANIEL TAXI MADEIRA TOUR CRUISERS

Message received from Eusébia which I have added to the link on page one:

I called Blandy’s about children being allowed to take part in guided tours with their parents, they said “Yes, they are” and they even added that from the age of 6 till they are 15, children pay only 2.50 Euros. From then on they pay full price.
Now you've gone and done it. I think we'll be joining in with one of your groups.

I've been taking them for a couple of years now. No big deal. :confused3

You think that's bad? I'm ten YEARS older than my dh!:rolleyes1:rotfl2:

How horrible! I feel so bad for the family that was having a wonderful vacation that instantly became their worst nightmare.
There are dangers everywhere.
Here in Philadelphia, PA a Duck Boat (Amphibious tour bus) stalled in the Delaware river and was hit bay a barge and two tourist from Hungary were killed.

I would be worried with only a 1lb wt gain:lmao:

You know Sarah, I forgot I was told that !!! opps, no tea or coffee right after dinner, I always have tea or coffee after or with lunch etc.

VAl, I am sorry to say but non smoking anything is a joke in spain, its funny, last time we went we had forgot what it was like to be out and smokey, it was like the "old days"
I am sure the big posh places will be fine, not sure about hotel rooms, I never was bothered by the smell left so hopefully it should be fine. Also at least you can eat outside in spain.

When we went to las vegas last year I was shocked that folks were allowed to smoke pretty much anywhere.
