We still have a Nationwide card that used to be free. Really must change. We did apply for a Santander one early this year, but they were so slow sending the pin number that we went on holiday before it came even though we gave them plenty of time.

We usually get some online and sent home, though we wouldn't do the pay months before just to get a good rate though. Other than that we get from M&S or the PO, or wherever is cheapest on the day. John looks on Martin moneysavingexpert to find the best daily rate.

LOL I love Martin's site! Hes fab!

I know .... it's really frustrating isn't it. You would think they would know what they are doing by now :confused3:confused3

:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

If any of you want a cheap holiday, come to New Zealand...

I wish!!:thumbsup2

Cooking chocolate ....ewwwww :sick::sick:

I actually ate dog chocolate once ... my Mum had bought the dog a dog chocolate easter egg, and I was so desperate for chocolate I pinched a piece. I didn't know it was dog chocolate at the time though.

I actually like Hersheys .... love the cookies and cream bar.

:scared1: Dog chocolate!!! Oh dear!:rotfl2:

For those of you in the UK, I just ordered myself a credit card from the Post Office ... doesn't charge for foreign transactions worldwide, so I thought it might be useful if I exceed my limit on my Santander Zero card. Very easy to apply for one on line too.:thumbsup2

Does anyone have any ideas about the best place to get your currency. We usually order in advance from Travelex and pick up at the airport .... but there may be better options out there ?????

we usually do the same Sarah, so not sure what we will do this time....:confused3

We have been traveling since the EBTA, and have been in London for one week. This is our last full day, as we fly home tomorrow.

Woody

Have a good trip home!:thumbsup2

Thanks for all your hard work with this.

I have the day off today and DH is at home, too. We will be heading out shortly to sort out his gym membership. Up till now we we were members in different gyms, but his contract is now up and he is joining my gym, which has better facilities.

Afterwards we are going to have some lunch in town. They just opened a new barbecue place in our shopping mall which is really good. So I will introduce DH to this. Then we will go and watch a movie. Should be a fun day.

Corinna

Enjoy your day Corinna!:)

Glee! I love Glee and loved the review of the show - thanks for sharing :thumbsup2
A couple of Glee questions - is the actress who plays Rachel`s mother really Rachels mother? They look so alike. And can all those actors sing? There aren`t any dubbed voices are there? DD got me onto Glee when it first started - she`d read reviews and insisted I watch it. I`m pleased she did.

Speaking of DD she has got her degree, a 2:1. We are so happy!! DD was supposed to sit her finals last year and deferred them, so after a bit of a stressful year we are thrilled she`s accomplished what she wants.

Castaway Cay - I`m up for that, I do alot of walking though there has to be some incentive, a nice drinky or a bit of grub usually does it ;)

No they're not related I believe but they do look very alike don't they?:)

Well done to your dd, :cool1: crossing everything for mine now that she manages to get through her troubles and get back to her studies in September....they're such a worry aren't they?

Off to work for a bit. not sure for how long as my eyes are still puffy today and hard to keep open...

Sue

Sounds horrid Sue, hope its better soon!

Since we are arriving in Barcelona the day of the cruise (arrive 7:55 a.m.), we are hoping to do the hop-on hop-off bus tour. Does anyone know how long of a walk it is from Terminal C to the Columbus statue? Or how long the bus tour is?

Sorry I always seem to have so many questions! I really appreciate the knowledge everyone shares!!:cheer2:

There are lots of different tours and routes so it depends on which one you thinking of taking. Our 'loop' took about 2-2 and a half hours (be aware it can get very hot in Barcelona, make sure you haev plenty of water and a hat! especially if sitting upstairs).
We had a short bus trup from the port to Columbus so couldn't say with certainty how long the walk would be I'm afraid :)

My heart goes out to Heather and her family in this difficult time; such sad news.

THANK YOU for providing this information so quickly! I really appreciate it; hopefully it will help us decide which excursions to do. Is anyone else doing more than one excursion at a port? I saw that some people do one excursion and then do some touring on their own. Does anyone know if it is easy to walk from the port to do some touring in Gibraltar or Madeira ?

BARCELONA - You can't walk from the Columbus Statue to Terminal C! It really is not a walking route! There is no path and it is busy with lorries etc! I would definatley not recommend it. Last time DCL did provide a bus from Terminal C to the Columbus Statue free of charge!

GIBRALTAR - Definately doable on your own but lots of walking up hills. Best option is a taxi for a tour from the terminal if you are thinking of a tour as this puts the most sites in. Some places like Europa Point are hard to get to by foot. The walk to the town is probably 20 mins and then from there you can get the cable car (or so I've been told as I've never done it).

MADIERA - Never been to so not sure.

So if you want to be included in the next publication, please get them to me in a PM in the next 24 hours. :) Click on the link above if you're not familiar with the data components.

ROFL I would if I could but I can so I won't. Anyone know when we find our flight info when we book with disney for air.?

Oh and I was talking to Disney about accessible excursions. Seems I can do any excursion if I use a walker that is foldable. I have to scratch my head because foldable wheelchairs are not allow. And Both folded if you bring a small chair is the same size.

So I am going to try and bring my walker so I can go on the Madrid whale watching. It is book as a gift for hubby.

A surprise. But He was not too happy to hear I wanted to bring my walker. Since my scooter wiil do me just fine. Just one more thing to put on and off the plane.

I sure hope it is not a great walk. Maybe I should post on the eastern thread to see how far of a walk it is.
:goodvibes

and there will be an incentive ........ a frozen strawberry daquiri at the Heads Up bar is what I am aiming for when I finish the power walk.

Ok, I take a weekend off and there are 40 pages!

I am so sorry to hear about Heather's husband Rick. My thoughts and prayers go out to Heather and her family in their time of mourning.
This fuels my belief that we should spend as much time with our family and go on as many trips as possible. You never know when your time is up.

I'd be inclined to say leave them off and if they want them they will get in touch!

Erik, I'm inclined to agree with Sarah on this. Congrats on the fundraising!

For all you chocolate snobs, I happen to like Hershey's, now Nestle's chocolate is lousy.:rotfl2:

Sarah-Gismo,
Could you tell me the times for the St Martin Quad excursion? My DW and I want to take our 7 year old on this, but I also wanted to get to Mahalo beach to see the big planes come in in the afternoon while having a few drinks at the sunsetbeachbar.

MADIERA - Never been to so not sure.

Oh, missed the question about Madeira.

You can walk into town. It is a flat comfortable walk, but might seem a longish walk if you have any walking difficulties. If you continue along the front you come to the Cable Car entrance, and from there you can get the cable car up to Monte where the toboggan run goes from. There are also the Tropical Gardens up there, but they are very steep with steps so no good for those with mobility issues.

I believe there is a hop on hop off bus too.

Very confused on the west coast.....Sue, I thought you were heading to Canada?????? How did you end up in FL?? Was it someone else?

I'm going to be getting a reputation of not knowing what's going on anywhere. I sent a note to Erik congratulating him and Jason on the walk the previous day.....it was actually 2 days prior.

Maybe it's a time warp thing......

In fairness you were actually only ONE day late....so your time warp isn't quite as bad as you thought! :lmao:

No they are not related---but you're right they do look very much alike! I've said that about Lea Michele (who plays Rachel) forever! Both actresses are broadway stars----Lea originated the female lead role in "Spring Awakening" and Idina Menzel (who plays her mother and director of "Vocal Adrenaline") is a Tony Award Winning Broadway actress----she originated the role of Maureen in "Rent" (the lesbian character who sings the cow song) and played the character in the film version of the show and she was also the original Elphaba in "Wicked" (which she won the Tony for) and originated the role in the London production, as well. She's also married to Taye Diggs (who is also an original "Rent" cast member and who is from Rochester, NY!)

Oh hop on bus? Going to investigate now!

Orly had dug them ALL up ,I am talking 3 ft down, Mum was NOT pleased.

Got a laugh your *** off though?:lmao::lmao::lmao:

:lmao::lmao: Bet Orly was surprised when there was no bone:lmao::lmao:

Swiss Chalet is a yummy take-out/family restaurant that serves salty-spiced rotisserie chicken with yummy spicy dipping sauce, soft french fries, salad etc. It has it's own distinct taste and is total comfort food. It's actually allowed on Weight Watchers (minus the fries of course) because the chicken is roasted, and the dipping sauce is very low fat. The sauce is so yummy we have been known to drink it!

They sauce tastes good on anything. I start off with dipping the bun, then move onto the fries, and finish off with the chicken. Great now I want Swiss Chalet but I have to start work before they open and won't finish unit after they close :headache:

Now that sounds like a wonderful restaurant ...... is it a one-off or a chain?

They are a chain. I know there are some in Florida.

No problem at all other than I had a look and couldn't see it. What was the name of it? Was it just St Martin Quad? The only one I found was the mountain bike one and this was for ages 12 and up

Sent you a friend request

Sorry, I have been offline for a couple weeks and spent all day catching up on posts. :surfweb: I noticed the Formal Nights have continued to be a topic of discussion. I noticed the new list from concierge showed formal nights on day 3 and 8, semi on 13, theme on 7 and pirate on 9. On May 22, 2010, I posted the results of my call to Disney Reservations (Cindy) of formal nights on day 2 and 7, semi 13, theme on 8 and pirate on 11. :confused3

So I called today to make a dinner rotation request (LAPLAP…) and also asked to confirm the dates of formal nights which I had been given in May. And guess what? I spoke to Carlos and he advised : the formal 3, 8, semi 13(at least that doesn’t change), theme on 7 and pirate on 9. WHAT !!!!! :scared1: I asked if there had been a change from the dates I was given in May and Carlos said he had no way of knowing, but these were what is scheduled as of today. :)

I asked to speak to a manager :chat: and was connected to Melissa. I explained to Melissa that I was given other dates back in May (just a couple weeks ago) and asked if the computer noted a change from prior dates and she also said there is no way to tell, other than what it is showing today. Melissa apologized for the confusion and then pointed out that “they” could change it again (and again) as we are still three months away from departure. To make things worse, Melissa pointed out that even the ports of call could change too.

I asked who the “They” :rolleyes1 were and she said multiple departments work together to set the formal, semi, theme and pirate nights. She advised that changes in entertainment , ports, port times, and other issues all effect the special nights.

So as of today, that is the story. ;) This of course does not explain why mdwoodman (6-5-10 post) got an email from Disney with the old dates I was given in May. :confused3 What I get from this is “things can change”. I too, will make my plans with the best info I have at the time and make changes later, if needed. :woohoo:

I know .... it's really frustrating isn't it. You would think they would know what they are doing by now :confused3:confused3

You guys should see my ITouch calender. It now has multiple entries for these dates. I just put "Formal NIght?????" and "Pirate Night????":rotfl: I figure I have a 50/50 chance of getting something right that day.

Does anyone have any ideas about the best place to get your currency. We usually order in advance from Travelex and pick up at the airport .... but there may be better options out there ?????

We ordered them from our bank and it is delivered in the next day or so to a local branch and then we go pick it up.

We have been traveling since the EBTA, and have been in London for one week. This is our last full day, as we fly home tomorrow.
