My DW (Candida) will be bring her Canon and a couple lens. I'll be sticking with my point and shoot.

I know a little delayed, but I am still back on page 67 :rolleyes1 It's going to take me a couple weeks just to catch up with all the posts:goodvibes

Jon
Good luck with that Jon:rotfl2:
:rotfl2: I have a boring life and this will liven it up Maz! :rotfl2:

Just been out and bought the first of my cruise holiday clothes, plus a little something for the fish extenders :cool1:

Oh! also just found out I passed both of my first OU (open university) courses! yay! I know they were only short courses but they were a big thing for me, and the start of my degree :woohoo::woohoo:
Well done on the passes.
I can just imagine that special moment:

"Hi, I'm Bareacuda."

"I'm Nacho Mama!"

:goodvibesWoody youre funny.

Standard Itinerary

  • Park Guell- Gaudi's greatest Park with beautiful city views
  • Pg. de Gracia- Barcelona's most expensive & magnificent Avenue
  • La Pedrera- Gaudi's most famous building in Barcelona (Casa Mila)
  • Casa Batllo- Gaudi's most astounding contribution to Modernisimo
  • Casa Amataller- part of the trio "Apple of *******"
  • Casa Morera- part of the trio "Apple of *******"
  • Plaza España- most impressive plaza in Barcelona
  • The National Palace- a very impressive site with great views
  • The Olympic Ring- see where it all happened in 1992
  • Montjuic Castle- with lots of history and great city views
  • The Columbus Monument- for the world-famous explorer
  • Pt. Olympic- Built for the 1992 games: a Marina, shops & more
  • Plaza Catalunya- the famous plaza in the heart of Barcelona
This tour will give a good overview of Barcelona's most popular sites. (At the end of the EBTA, we had five full days in Barcelona and visited most of them.)

Some of the sites are quite spread out, so the tour covers quite a bit of distance. Hopefully this tour allows you to get off the coach or van at some of the sites for a look and photos.

Interesting translation: "Apple of *******."

In English, the "Block of *******" is a block of Modernista building facades by Antoni Gaudi and his contemporaries. In Spanish, manzana is a block [of buildings]. Manzana also means "apple."

Class dismissed.

Thanks for the lesson!

As you pointed out, the spread of the land was appealing to me as well. Indeed it's not just a driving tour. Depending on what attraction we're at, the schedule accommodates 5-30 minutes to get off and look around and take photos. I really think this is perfect for me.

I hope you have an absolutely fabulous birthday at Disneyland Paris. Please post some pics!!

We still have our Opening Day tickets which we purchased in WDW and have never used when it was called Euro Disney. They were $30 each and I heard they are about $74 now.

I just wanted to pass along that birkner, HallsofVA, tweety0227, and I are all set for our private tour that includes pick-up at the airport and drop-off at our hotel!

Thanks for this information; very helpful ! We aren't arriving until Saturday the 17th and taking disney transportation to the port; do you think we would have time for this type of tour rather than hop-on hop off bus ? Definitely will have to check this out.

We are getting ready to book our excursions this weekend – YAHOO! Does anyone have personal experience as to which of the following excursions are “better.” Some of the excursions are very similar; it’s hard to decide which to do (it seems especially true in Gibraltar). Any input is appreciated!

Gibraltar—We have all the “rock” tours narrowed down to City Under Seige vs. Rock Tour (or is another one “better” ??).

Madeira—Catamaran Whale/Dolphin vs. 4x4 Landrover vs. Views and Parks. This one is hard. We really want to see Madeira, but we also would love to do the whale watching!

St. Maarten – trying to force ourselves NOT to do the 12-Metre Regatta again (had so much fun we want to do it again, but we want to do something new!) Our choices are Under 2 Flags, Seaworld Explore Coral Reef, Rib Boat, Island Drive & Explore, Tiki Hut Snorkel.

Tortola—Tortola by Land and Sea, Catamaran Sail & Snorkel, Virgin Island Sail & Snorkel Beach Adventure, Tour of Virgin Gorda

THANKS AGAIN !

Monica, keeping fingers crossed that the behavior stays north. I will also NOT be telling April that T is going as she will want to go. I want to enjoy myself. :)

No, we'll let that one be a surprise when she sees your pictures. But I'm trying to work out a weekend down there this summer. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for all the support everyone. My son is already aware that when we crusie Disney there are many other 'parents' out there.

Poor baby! I hope she will be feeling much better tomorrow!!

I agree. It's a terrible shame that with cutbacks, schools are sacrificing arts.

I love your story!! I bet there's a connection somehow, someway with a couple of people I know. It IS a small world after all!

The movie theater medium isn't at all near as exciting, but when you can't be there, it's pretty good to at least share the passion with others. The first time Peter took me, I about fell out of my seat when people started hooting and hollering as if they were in the stadium! LOL

I had marked Sandi's cutoff post to suggest we not close it because it was just opened and others may want to participate, then sure enough, you chimed in, Brenda!

Sandi, if you want to keep it in smaller groups, can I suggest that we just split the list of people in half or at least wait to see how many people want to be a part of it before deciding how/if it should be split? It would be a shame to disappoint people for signing up already.

Hey Kimberly - coconut IS in the group. I will split the group and will wait a few more months. I know some people were looking to buy or have other people make things for them so I do want to close it sooner rather than later. Great minds!!! I am only on for a little bit because Dad is visiting the neighborhood.

Don't you just love shopping? My favorite thing to do!! I passed that gene on to both of my girls!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Congrats on passing your courses. You must feel such a sense of accomplishment!!:banana:

I DO love shopping Noel....and yes, I have certainly passed the gene on to my dd, Becky, too! :goodvibes My Dad always says that if shopping were an Olympic sport my Mum would win a Gold Medal.....obviously where I got it from then.....:rolleyes1:woohoo:

Thank you, yes, I feel really pleased that I've made a start on the long road to my degree!, at last!:thumbsup2

UKANGEL - Congrats on passing your courses! What a relief.

Kimberly - cannot wait to see pictures of moms new puppy!

Thanks for not writing 50 pages :rotfl2: Pretty easy to catch up!!

We'll stop posting so you can catch up!!!!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yes, sure we will!! :surfweb::lmao:

:lmao:
At least I finally caught up.
I'm going to Myrtle Beach this weekend and I know I'll come back and the thread will be closed and we'll on to a new one...
I do have to bring my laptop though so I can do my DCL ressies on the 20th. :surfweb: That's 12:00am Eastern time (GMT-5) right?

Hm....if you have your laptop there is no excuse for not checking in with us. :):rotfl:

Tortola—Tortola by Land and Sea, Catamaran Sail & Snorkel, Virgin Island Sail & Snorkel Beach Adventure, Tour of Virgin Gorda

THANKS AGAIN !

Can only help with Tortola. Tortola by Land and Sea you would be with US!!! :woohoo::yay:;):)

We are in the process of finalizing our excursions and I have to say, wow Disney sure charges families a lot. Comparing apples to apples it almost feels wrong how much they inflate the costs. Rant over.

I think we are going to most of the ports on our own, being super-conservative about time management.

In Madeira it seems easy enough to take a taxi or walk the 1/2 mile. From the town centre the cable car can be taken to Monte for only 9 euros, and we will visit the garden and take the toboggans down (about 10-15 euros pp).

The toboggans only take you half-way down, but there is a bus that takes you right back to town for 2 euros. We plan on touring the Mercado dos Lavradores, a fruit/fish/craft market, and eating lunch somewhere near the market. We may also visit the Madeira Story Centre, or the Blandy's Wine Lodge, or the Quinta de Palheiro Ferreiro (Victorian garden) depending on how the kids are doing. It seems very doable, and fairly inexpensive.

Disney is charging $155 for a similar thing. With 5 people the difference is pretty steep. If it were just DH and I we would likely save the hassle and take the DCL excursion. It's just hard on families to absorb that difference. I certainly don't judge folks who afford the DCL excursions...

just thought I'd share my planning so far!

Have a wonderful time! I somehow missed the World of Color debut last night, but I've heard wonderful things about it. :goodvibes

Have a wonderful time at Disneyland :thumbsup2

have a great time....I'm not jealous at all........:rolleyes1:rotfl:

have fun, I'm trying to figure out when I can squeeze in a trip down, I have no more vacation time as its all needed for the cruise, but there's always the weekend!

I'm certain you'll have a fantastic time, Dorothy! I'm very much looking forward to hearing about it. Enjoy!!!

I'm Back from Disneyland! We had a great time!!!! Thanks for all of the well wishes! We had tons of pixiedust: for our trip! I thought there were going to be tons of people because we went for the WOC premier weekend but it didn't get crowded until Monday (and boy did it get crowded that day!). Both Saturday and Sunday were amazing; it felt like we owned the park (exaggerating a bit...but not much). On Saturday, we did 10 rides in 2 hours. On Sunday, we did 14 rides in 2 1/2 hours. We even had tons of pool time. So I highly recommend the weekends. got2travel, I think you can squeeze in a trip to the land before we head to Spain. :thumbsup2

Sadly I wasn't able to see WOC but was able to do the Fantasmic dessert package. Loved it! I'll go back to see WOC - and I hope I can go back soon. This was my first time at the Disneyland Hotel. I think I still prefer the Grand Californian but I loved the theming at the Dland Hotel. It was very cute.

We are booked for a Segway tour of Barcelona on the 17th at 20:00. Cost is 58 euros, including tax. Anyone else interested?

We're thinking of doing the Segway tour but haven't figured out which day yet. I'll work on it this week and see if we can do it on the same day as you.

I'm very much looking forward to walking the Ramblas as well. Sounds like it's pretty diverse. I really want to check out the food market to try out some unique (to me). Overall, it sounds like you had a wonderful experience!

Speaking of the Ramblas food market..We are planning to do a cooking class (appropriately titled Cook and Taste, cost is 60 euros, and is rated #5 on tripadvisor.com of things to do in Barcelona) and a tour of the Boqueria can be added to the class for 12 euros. I've heard such wonderful things about this market and can't wait to have a tour of it prior to the cooking class. The cooking class is about four hours and is participatory. Eveyone in the class helps to cook the meal and then you eat the food you prepared together. If anyone is interested in signing up together so we could have a Dis group let me know and I'll contact the company for available dates/times. Here's the website if anyone is interested: http://cookandtaste.net/ (The site has a FAQ page)

I'm actually considering doing a Port Day special that I'm hopeful they'll offer called 20/20/20. You get to choose three (3) services from the following choices, each 20 minutes in length, for $99.

  • re-hydrating facial
  • neck/shoulder massage
  • back massage
  • scalp massage
  • arm/hand massage
  • foot/ankle massage

I'm thinking Gibraltar day would work for me if it's offered. I like it because of the variety over a full 60 minutes. Most massages are 50 minutes and much more than $99.

The other thing I know I want to sign up for is basically for the scalp massage, which makes me melt. If you want to look it up, know it's a Salon service, not Spa service. It's called the Frangipani Scalp Treatment. I've read WONDERFUL reviews of this experience.

Thanks for the info Kimberly! I will definitely be looking into this. I had a massage/facial in a cabana on CC on the WBPC in 2008 and really enjoyed it. I would love to do this on a port day! I get to sign up for all of my stuff this weekend. I'm going to put it on my list.

OK now back to catching up on what I missed on the boards this weekend. I think I have 25 more pages to read...:goodvibes

It sure mounts up thats for sure when there is a few of you.
I am really hoping that we can get out and about and enjoy walks or runs in the ports.

If you're not doing an excursion in Tortola, it looks like Road Town itself has some nice places to walk around. This is what we will be doing. We did the Land and sea excursion last time and can recommend that.

It does add up. Since it is just DH and I we will do DCL in a couple of ports, on our own in a couple.
