We too have the AC on - and we get a breeze... But it was 78 with 80% humidity last night and I thought I would expire...

As for nails... I too get mine doine ever 2 - 3 weeks. If I remember right, they do not offer fills on board. I am getting mine done riht before we leave As in the polish will still be wet... Iam taking Becca to get hers done (just polish) the Sunday night before we leave. I figure we will finish packing the night before, and then do the lst minute stuff untio about 11. Then we have 2.5 hours before we grab the kids and head to the airport. In that 2.5 hours I need to convince DH that he needs a spa pedicure. That way we can both go. Also, I am doing color on the tips - like a french but with color. I am also bringing polish so I can go and get a polish only if needed. I think if you bring your own polish it is pretty cheap.

Sue

I am with you on having your own nail polish. I get my nails (french) and toes with polish. I will bring all my stuff with me as I don't like to use anyone else's polish. I am going to get hubby to do pedi too the day we leave. Lucky for me I have natural nails so don't have to worry about fills.

You've never heard of any variation of a buckeye?!! Wow!

I believe kukui nuts are mostly from Hawaii and known as a popular lei there. I'm 99% sure kukui trees are Hawaii's state tree, too.

You'll see on the keychain below what a real buckeye looks like. I made these for some of the adults on my last cruise by drilling a hole through them and then threading the string through it. They do have to dry out before you drill them though. As you can see, it's brown with a tan top and irregular in it's roundness.

And if you want to make the candy it is easy as 1-2-3!
Butter (1 lb), peanut butter (2 lbs) and 10X sugar (3lb)... roll into balls. Then melt chocolate chips (semi sweet) add some parafin so they get a harder shell. dunk the peanut butter ball into the melted chocolate and YUM!!!

While I grew up in Illinois, and went to U of I (and maybe the Illini will remember what a football is this year) I am a buckeye by marriage and I make a full recipe if these every Christmas time...

I thought about these as a FE gift, or for the candy exchange, but was too worried about customs...

Sue

OK, silly question for the ladies... I started getting my nails done when I got married in October. I've been getting my nails filled every two weeks since then. Do you know if I would be able to get my nails filled in the spa? And if so, any idea how much it might be?

I don't know much about nails, but the salon shows:

Manicure ($25) Beautify your hands with a full-service spa manicure. Moisturize, treat and nourish your skin, and top off your manicure with professionally-applied nail color. 25 minutes

Pedicure ($45) Pamper tired feet with a full-service spa pedicure. Salon specialists can apply a full range of treatments, from massages to skin conditioning, nail color, shaping and more. 40 minutes

I know disney tells you that you only need to have your Key to the World and "photo ID" which most people from the US take their DL - but when we go off the ship (even on closed loop cruises) we take our passports with us (copies remain on board of the ship) because if something would happen to us, accident, get arrested for doing something we did not know was wrong (has happened - not to us) miss the boat, or anything that you might need your passport to prove who you are and get back to the states by plane if need be.

Are we the only ones who think this way? I just don't want to get caught in a strange country with no citizenship "papers" so to speak to prove where I belong.

Any thoughts?

I know I didn't have to but when I left the ship at Grand Cayman and at Cozumel on our DD, I took my passport with me (like you I left a copy on board). Just felt safer.

Personally, when I got my nails done in 2008, I was not real happy with the quality of the service. I think if you want a great mani/pedi, you should do it at home. On the ship, if you need a polish change, then fine. But of course, that is just my experience and I am very picky about who does my nails.

Just my thoughts....
:surfweb:

ok I want people to tell me if I am just crazy or if what we do makes sense to anyone else because on the EBTA when someone saw us do this they got really freaked out.

.
now that I have your interest peaked :)

I take the copies with us and leave the originals on the ship. I figure I can make more copies if something happens, but if the originals are gone, then we could be in a bind. If you get in a bind someone from the ship can get your documents from the safe and bring them to you...

ok thanks for the confirmation that I am not crazy on this - when we were getting back on the ship in Spain we were getting our passports out and someone getting on said "oh no do we need our passports" and when I explained why we had them they looked at us like we were crazy - but it also did not help that the CM who was checking ID's told them no worry. I know it is no worry as far as the ship is concerned but it is all those other people on the "outside" world that worry me! I remember reading about a man who went to buy something at a pharmacy on a cruise and ended up buying something that got the police involved and he was detained at a police station - I would freak out if something like that happened and no passport - and not to mention those people who miss the boat - those of us on the EBTA that had problems getting around Europe and not having had passports stamped at all - just imagine not having that passport!

Kukui nut.... It is somewhat similar to the Kukui isn't it?...

I think it is similar myself. :) However, I like the look of the kukui nut better!

Thanks for the lesson, now I will give you a history lesson on USC Football - ha ha ha!!! You know I love ya - already starting smack talk before we even enter Diversions.:dance3:

Ha ha!

....I thought about htese as a FE gift, or for the candy exchange, but was too worried about customs...

I also considered them for FEs. You can buy them prepackaged and sealed (although IMO they are not as good as homemade) from Anthony Thomas. I think the Harry London brand just twists the wrapper. After I thought about that, then I thought about them melting and the weight of them (along with the other FE stuff I would give) after you consider giving at least one for each person in the cabin. So all of that coupled with the customs concern deflated my idea. It is, however, tucked away for a roundtrip cruise from the States!.

Hi Friends!

We're still here - just been busy. Been keeping up with y'all on my blackberry while at work. We are getting very excited around here and I am starting to get some things together for the cruise.

We're trying to convince A, our youngest, that he needs to toilet learn. He is 3 and very resistant. Even little candies aren't an incentive. I've told him all about the Mickey pool and how he has to be diaper free to use it, and how we will have a Diaper Free party once he is using the potty full-time. But alas, he is resistant - forever my baby, I guess. Sigh. My strengths are not in long-term projects.

Okay, here is my potty training technique, not that you need it, but when Abby was that age, I went to the dollar store and bought a whole bunch of junk, loaded it into a small tub, so the amount looked bigger to a small child and kept it by the toilet. Every time she sat down and actually went to the potty, she got a prize and she loved to see the big pile just sitting there of crayons, dolls, little trucks (she liked those too), etc. Maybe your son doesn't quite understand Mickey pool/toilet because it isn't in front of him. If he is potty trained he can go to the kids club too - right? Just an idea. Hang in there!!!!

We are trying to watch our $ and were wondering if anyone has advice as to which ports (other than CC) can be done on our own cheaper than through DCL. I am a little nervous about "missing the boat". If anyone has done some of these stops on their own and loved what they did I would love to hear about it.

The KLM Flight is landing at 12.10 on St. Maarten for those who want to see it. We will go there.

Connie

Perfect, Since there are a lot of us who want to see this, would it be worth hiring a bus?

Little disney lovers, hope you never bought anything:rolleyes1
Mum has banned dad from boat shows:lmao:

No, Our boat is perfect for us right now, but DH did pick out his next 'step up' which will have to wait a few years. :rolleyes1

re maho beac, we are goin to get a taxi, not sure if its walkable.

Bus? Or maybe we could all organise to share taxi's, or maxi taxi's?

Great content, Sarah! Thank you!!

If others would benefit, I have two suggested topic additions.

  • Come See Us
  • Embarkation Don't Forget Checklist

Come See Us: On my last cruise, there were a handful of us who asked for others to come visit our cabin door for one reason or another. This is the case for me this time, too, because I want visitors to come to sign my scrapbook page that I'll have up on my door (click here to see one I had on my door last time; here's another, too). Another reason people had was that they were home schooling and wanted cruisers to stop by and mark on a flat global map where they were from so they could incorporate that into a lesson when they returned home. Are there any others who would like to have us specifically stop by and see your cabin's entryway? I know I would go out of my way to stop by and help you out!

Don't Forget Checklist: Although there aren't many, I know that we still have some DCL first timers with us. On my first Disney cruise, I wanted to make sure I had my priorities right when I boarded, so I put a checklist of things you want to potentially address when you embarked on our Meet's "go-to" post. You can see what we had on our collective list here. The list may need updated with current info (like I don't know if the discount is give any longer), and I'm sure that there are other checklist items that people here can suggest as well.

Me, me, me, we're first time cruisers are completely naive to lot's of the 'done things'. So the checklist would be great!

Made it tonight....and it was absolutely fabulous! :lovestruc Decorated it with choc leaves and frosted green grapes..too busy scoffing to stop to take a pic....sure to be a favourite from now on. Would work in lime or lemon!
Thanks so much for passing it on!
Lyn

OK, I tried to avoid it, but now I have to make it, It sounds so good!

Hello people

Not sure how many remember me - I'm Laura AKA eeyorelvr10. Seems Steve and I will be going on this cruise as final payment was finally made. I feel like I've been off DIS for years. Been on another site and avoided this one. Forgot how slow it can get. But at least I'm here and hoping to see some familiar faces on the cruise. I will be playing catch soon as DD gets out of school on June 3 and I will finally have some play time.

Anythign I've missed and need to sign up for? :rolleyes1 Or is it all too late?

Take care and talk soon

Hi, I'm a first time cruiser, so we've obviously never met, But Hi, I'm Hayley. We will be travelling as a family with my DH, Terry and 2 DD's, Lucy and Bella.

Hi everyone!

My shoulder is back to 100%, thankfully! It hurt a little at the Disney Store yesterday while I was working but nothing too bad. It must have been a muscle that I pulled...I hope I don't pull it again!

Kimberly, it's so nice to see you posting again! I missed you!

FE question. What I am planning on doing, I believe I will have enough for all of the cabins so is there a way I can get a list of all of the staterooms/Dis names for everyone participating in the FE? It may or may not work out, but I was just wondering if it would be possible.

Spent the day with my husband and it was so nice. We had lunch at the Olive Garden (I love their soup, salad and breadsticks meal) and then visited Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's. We had a great time just walking around.

In one week from right now, I'll be in New York City seeing "Glee" in concert! I can't wait!!! I love that show!!! My sister and I are going up for the day so it should be exciting. I haven't been to NYC for over a year and a half so it will be nice. They are playing at Radio City Music Hall so I'm excited to go there again. It should be fun!

I hope everyone is having a great day! :)

I'm glad your shoulder is better! ;)
Now...your making me jealous, you work in the Disney Store, had a beautiful lunch with your DH, your going to NYC and seeing GLEE!!!! Lucky Girl! Have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

Here's an updated list of overnight accommodations in Barcelona and arrival dates that have been provided to me. This should help people who may want to share rides from the airport or meet up at your hotel or apartment before we cruise!

ALLHotelRollCall0523-600am.jpg

Oh, we're all by ourselves :sad1: Oh well, only 1 night and we'll be waaaay to jet lagged after 34 hours to be great company anyhoo! :)

Ohio's state tree is the buckeye tree. It has leaves that frankly look similiar to special leaves some countries allow you to legally smoke :scared1: and poisonous nuts called buckeyes. The nut is inside of the balls you see hanging from this tree.

IMGP0307.jpg

Since the buckeye tree is the state tree, The Ohio State University does have a mascot named Brutus Buckeye. Furthermore, in honor of the state nut, a special treat that a lot of people primarily make during the Christmas holiday season (because it's so labor intensive) are buckeye candies! Harry London Chocolates and Anthony Thomas Chocolates, both based in Ohio, also manufacture them. They are balls of peanut butter candy covered in chocolate, with just the very top of the PB ball exposed so it looks like the tree nut. They are SOOOO good, and all of you who love Reese's Cups in the US would LOVE these!

BuckeyeCandy4.jpg

So there's your yummy lesson about buckeyes! :thumbsup2 (See....it wasn't THAT painful to get a lesson....unless you eat them! The treadmill could be painful to keep the calories off the thighs!)

You learn something new everyday ;)

KrisannB - I understand your reasoning about the passports, And totally agree. But Su_Kraft idea about taking the copy and leaving the original onboard sounds like a better idea to me. And that's what we'll be doing, Thanks Sue....again! :)

Ok, I need to get my A into G and do some housework, enough tea breaks....although it's nearly lunch time!

St. Maarten can be very cheap. When you tender onto the island, you're dropped off on the Dutch side of town, in town. There's a beach right there where you can simply hang out with the family. Pack some baggies and call room service before you go so you can have a beach lunch!

I glad that you are feeling better.

It been one month since I got hit by the elevator doors and I'm still in pain, under weight restrictions, activity restrictions and highly medicated. Thank god for insurance. One pill I'm on cost $4.75 per pill and I take it twice a day. I have to go to physical therapy 3 time a week and the doctor once a week. They are not sure what wrong with my left arm yet. I have to go to the doctor again on Wednesday.

Only 17 weeks till cruise and I'm PIF

Can you eat just one? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I might think about doing this when we sail closed loop as well as we drive to the port.

Last time we sailed to St Maarten with DCL we docked. There was shopping near by - all within walking distance. We took the Butterfly tour and then Glenn and Stephen got in a cab and headed to the airport to watch planes land. (I really don't get this, but they had a great time - sorry, can't remember what the cab ride cost, but Glenn said the beer was cheap...) Becca was toast at this point and in need of a nap so we went back to the ship. We ventured out again and met up with the boys, but didn't go anywhere other that the shops.

Oh - Glenn thought that there was a resort near the airport and that is how they got back to the ship...

From the dock you cound get anywhere! There were tour complanies and taxis and everyone we ran into seemed very nice.

We are sitting on the deck tonight, listening to the crickets and the creek and talking about what else... The cruise!! :cool1:

So we were looking into snorkeling and parasailing and then got to St. Maarten adn started to think back to when we were first there, and what we did. And then moved onto St Thomas... I was reminded of the excursions we took...

Glenn and Stephen did the mini sub and I took Becca to the Aquarium. She was about 14 moinths old at the time, and the only child on the trip. I think everyone was waiting for the meltdown... Well, we pte the baby shark, saw the HUGE lizzards, and were doing great. Headed back to the bus and all was well... Driving down to the ship Becca started to fuss. I got out her pacifier and handed it to her thinking she would take it, put her head on my shoulder and sleep. Yeah, right... She took it alright... And tossed it off the bus... I was ready to cry, but she thought it was funny... She made it back to town, and to see daddy and all was fine... We learned that they stock Pacifiers on the ship - and they are pretty expensive if I remember right!

Sue

Can you eat just one (buckeye)? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

exACTly!!! :lmao:

Last time we sailed to St Maarten with DCL we docked....

Oops! Sorry! I was thinking we tendered! It all runs together in my mushy mind anymore! Well that makes it even easier to just hop on board and grab lunch
.

When comparing things in Gilbalter and Medeira remember disney excursions are quoted in USD and private are in Euro's - I was thinking the Unforgettable West Side was expensive until others did excursions on their own and the total price in Euro's was almost as much as this one and they had no food. I had never thought of it till then to compare disney prices against Euro's.

Just food for thought

Figured I'd jump back on the thread. I've been staying away because I was not sure we'd make the cruise. As it stands, I did PIF, but am still not entirely sure we'll make it. Reminiscent of the 2007 WBTA, my son is on the verge of not sailing with me. On that cruise, I ended up taking my mom with me. I've got until June 20 before cancellation penalties kick in so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks. The Captain has informed me that my presence is required, so I hope I don't have to walk the plank.

A note about Palo Tea. A friend and I arranged a group tea on the 2007 WBTA and the 2008 EBPC but we were not able to do so ahead of time. We had to work with the Palo manager once we boarded. (PJ and Marco have been great!) You will need everyone's name and reservation & cabin number. And it may take a few days for them to finalize it for you as the often have to try to get other guests to reschedule. The reason high tea is so difficult to book is because they do not have a full staff at that time. I think they only have 3 servers scheduled for tea. So if you have a large group, you basically squeeze out anyone else who wants tea that day.

Great news that your shoulder's feeling better!

I've missed being on here, too, but it helped having people like you and others on FB to keep up with!

Oh I *know* you are over-the-top with excitement to see Glee! I'm sure you and Beth will have an amazing time! I haven't been to NYC for a couple of years myself, so I'm very jealous!

No worries!

I will take the opportunity to educate some of you on what a buckeye is, however! ;) (Stay with me friends! :rotfl:)

I was born in Springfield, Illinois and lived there until I was 15 before moving to Mississippi. I still to this day make Buckeye Candy every Christmas. They are delicious!!! :)

Glad to hear that you are feeling better! You have to stay clear of muscle strains and pulls for the next 17 weeks...

Sure! I will keep updating the lists as long as people are being added, getting cabin assignments, changing cabins, and requesting to be in more than one group!

Thanks! HOT, HUMID and sunny here in Canton, GA. Guess this is why they call Atlanta HOTlanta...Summer is here, and the kids are ready to be out of school. We finish up on Friday, so it will be a g\nice holiday weekend!!

Sue

It was HOT and HUMID here today also.....almost 100!!! :scared1:

YAY Monica!!!! I hope that it works out that you get to stay on the cruise...Captains orders you know!!! I am going because of his orders too.....Hope to see you in Barcelona!!:woohoo:
