Hi all

Just poping in for a moment to tell you all we're still on for the cruise. Waiting out til the end of the week to pay in full as the exchange rate dropped to 1.39 today!!! Hoping to get 1.4! Nans funeral is on Thursday pm and my exams are on Wednesday and Thursday am so hopefully will get a chance to catch up later on in the week. Things here are up and down as to be expected but thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Just be careful - not sure what airliines you are flying on - but some in europe will only allow ONE carry on. My husband had a small back pack (very small) and a small carry on bag and they said no - only one of them - we had to check the bigger and send things through we never should have had in checked bags. it turned out ok but while we are flying Delta (and that I can have the personal item) from the US to Munich - we are staying in Austria a few days - we will be flying KLM from Munich to Barcelona and that is who we had problems with so told my kids their "small backpacks" must fit inside the carry on easily so that there is no question and no shuffling and paying extra fees at the airport for additional checked bags. With my son he had a sling backpack - small size - and they counted that as his one carry on and would not allow him a 2nd - only a "purse" is allowed as an extra item (and a small one at that) - of course now I want to purchase hubby and son a "man purse" so they can have some things in those. Sorry to ramble but this luggage thing with carry-ons was a nightmare! And you don't even want to know the issues I had getting through security in Paris!

Krisann

We are on a direct ATL to BCN with Delta. 1 checked bag per person up to 50 lbs. 1 carry on that meets size restrictions and one personal item per person.

I was very grateful to get a direct flight as we dnot have to worry about other carriers. :)

I see that nasty little ash cloud has closed down heathrow again. I'm a little panicked about this, As most of you know, we are coming from Australia and arrive on the Friday 17th around lunch time. But, If that cloud is back I'm not sure how we'll get there? As long as we can get to Europe, we should be able to jump on a flight to Barcelona, right? Or if Barcelona airport is closed, how hard is it to get a train? Worse case, Can we meet up in Gibralter? Will Disney allow us to board there?
I know alot of you are in the same boat (:rotfl:), what are your contingency plans?
If there was ever a time to cross-pack, this is it, if we have to change flights after our luggage has been checked from Australia, what's the chance of getting it all, Must remember a change of clothes in the cabin bag!!! :thumbsup2

I am watching the cloud a well... have you seen this site: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/volcanic?LANG=en&ART=0&BASE=201005170600

I have a co worker that is going to France on Friday and he stated that most of the closures are at night... Not sure that makes wme feel any better as we are flying overnight...

I also read on the boards that others had the same issue and were able to join the cruise at a later port.

Goes without saying travel insurance is a good idea as this volcano only erupts every once in a while and then erupts for 2 - 3 years...

I have PM'ed Sue with that exact question Marilyn :rotfl:

Probably doens't help much but standard US sizing...

Dimension/Size
S - Chest 34 36
M - Chest 38
L - Chest 40 42
XL - Chest 44 46
XXL - Chest 48

I could't find exacts on the shirts we are looking to order... These are from Wikipedia...

Oh Captain... You there? Can you lend a hand with the sizing?

DH John wanted me to post this picture of him that DD took this morning when Samantha brought us breakfast from the Cheesecake Factory.[/COLOR]

OOOH, The Cheesecake Factory, yummy. Very thoughtful DD.

That exchange rate is terrible isn't it?:sad2:

Over here, unless you had travel insurance before the volcano erupted then you aren't covered!:headache: We were hoping the insurance companies were going to come up with something but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. We have annual policy which needs renewing in June, so that is a pain.

I am thinking the shirt size will be typical us sizing .... but once I find out the exact shirt I will try to get the measurements ....when in doubt size up ...

Let's keep everything crossed! :scared:

Don't forget to count us in on the coach!:lmao:

There was a coach option that I founf somewhere on the web, but it took about 27hrs :scared1::scared1:

The list is growing! Not sure I want to travel 27 hours really....but we'd all be in good company :rotfl2:

The one good thing about travelling via train .... no severe luggage restrictions :thumbsup2 = more shoes :thumbsup2 LYNNE !!!!!!

:thumbsup2

Thinking of you Sarah, hope Thursday isn't too awful for you. We're also holding on hoping the exchange rate will pick up :rolleyes1

Best of luck for your exams too :thumbsup2

Our "contingency" plan is the fact that we're booking our airfare through DCL, so I'm thinking they will help us get to where we need to be as soon as possible  If that doesn't happen we have travel insurance that will cover a missed flight/cruise.

The change of clothes in the carry on is a good idea, since, at this time, we don't know if we are flying direct or connecting. However, I'm pretty sure that a connecting flight it REAL possible since it's from California (that's a long way for a direct flight);)

:cutie:

Just a thought  why not 'borrow' a roll from your state room and take it with you on excursions.

Unfortunately we will need it prior to boarding also.

DH John wanted me to post this picture of him that DD took this morning when Samantha brought us breakfast from the Cheesecake Factory.

Brunch.jpg

It's 10:20 am and I am still waiting for someone to bring me breakfast....anything would do!! :lmao: It's not looking promising and I may have to settle for a bowl of Cheerios. :sad2:

Guess, we'll have to be counted in as well. Since we'll be with you for the week ;)

Jon

Oh but of course! Although...I was thinking you might just have the advantage that once you are in Europe it will be relatively easy for you to rail across to Barcelona if worse happens! We will be scrabbling to catch up with you somewhere along the way lol!

Nah.:snooty:
Its so NOT going to happen. Lets be positive that every one of us gets all the right planes at the right time and all our plans go forward as planned!.

Now on the count of 3............all BLOW! Blow the ash cloud where it needs to be blown ;)

Lyn

Granmaz - we will be thinking about you!!! Gismo - good to hear from you, hope things go well for you this week.

I had a thought about flying to Barcelona - I booked my air through DCL and I felt it was the same price as when I went on my own, plus it gives you a piece of mind. You might want to check with Disney regarding the airfare and that way you know you will make it and if you do have to meet in Gibraltor because of some issue, Disney is taking you there - at their expense! For the people that are going to Barcelona early, I don't know how that works, but I thought I would tell the people arriving the day of or the day before.

I am in the process of putting together the "medicine cabinet" for the cruise so if anybody else has an add on, just let me know. Thanks!

DD Samantha had ulterior motives!! She wanted me to drive her and BF at 6AM this morning to SFO for a trip to Las Vegas to pick up BF Nick's new car!!

Hope you get a nicer breakfast today than Cheerios!!

Good idea!! :thumbsup2 I wonder if it would work if EVERYONE in UK went out at the same time and blew! Add a few fans and it just might move that ash on its way!! :rotfl: DD used to ask if everyone in the whole world started walking in the same direction at the same time would it make the earth move faster???

I did get off my lazy tush and make some breakfast for Dennis and I. A piece of toast, a couple of eggs, half a hamburger patty each left over from dinner, some mandarin oranges and grapefruit slices. Pretty tasty, but no one needed anything from me this morning :) so I had to do it myself.

I love The Cheesecake Factory. They have the best ice tea! Never had breakfast, but I know which one I would pick if those 2 were put in front of me!!!

Since DD works there, we have eaten at the Cheesecake Factory many times. My favorite dish is the Thai lettuce wraps!!
