Hello fellow WB cruisers....my DW and I have been on 22 Disney cruises but none quite like this one coming up.....we have always gotten the Magic or the Wonder in Florida so it will be so different flying to Barcelona and then joining the Magic....we have done everything through Disney so we have no idea the specifics of our flights just yet....heck....we have a GTY stateroom so we have no idea where we will be on the ship....but we WILL BE ON the ship and that is all that matters. I am 57 and DW is 53.....and so looking forward to a 14 day voyage....If you guys could kind of catch us up to speed on the goings on it would be appreciated....cause it would probably take months to read the whole threat from the beginning.
We are so looking forward to joining you all for this fabulous cruise!
Tom & Marilou

If you go back to the first page of this thread, read posts 1-12 to get caught up on activities, tee shirts, lanyard, cruise banner, FE info, our TA website and much, much more.

So sorry you won't be joining us, Maureen. We hope to see you a future DCL cruise.

Thanks we will miss not getting to see you again.

I have read that Joyce Prince runs a great tour in St. Marteen. I got alot of info on St. Marteen from the "other board" when we went in Jan really liked it there and would like to go back someday.

Phew! Good news is that UK are opening British airspace again tonight! :woohoo:

Lets hope everyone makes it home safely now.

A little late but good news from CNN:

British officials: UK airspace to reopen at 10 p.m. (5 p.m. ET) after nearly a week of closure due to ash from a volcano.

We are having debate on whether we can do both the Under Flag Two Island Tour and the Twelve Metre Regatta. Anyone know the answer?

I researched St Maarten on several websites:

1.http://www.st-maarten.com/
2. http://www.st-maarten.com/tb/index.htm
3. http://www.experiencestmaarten.com/
4. http://www.geographia.com/st-martin/
5. http://www.vacationstmaarten.com/

I know have heard this is a big duty free shopping port but I am not much interested in shopping.

Does anyone have any input on what else may be good to do at this port?

When I was there last September, a large group of DISers did a non-DCL ATV excursion. It was a lot of fun. We rode 4 wheelers around the island and made several stops including a stop at a beach for a swim. I can look up the website info if anyone wants to do something a little different.

Maybe another cruise. Keep us posted!!

I really don't refer to that board for fear they will delete the post. I saw that tour also but we tend to try to DCL tours so if we are running late, the ship will wait.

We might be up for that if there is enough interest.

I have purchased two travel books about Madeira. One is the Thomas Cook and the other is a DK Top 10 Madeira. The Thomas Cook guide is much more comprehensive.

I have also looked at three travel websites:
1. http://www.madeiraislands.travel/pls/madeira/wsmwhom0.home?p_lingua=en&p_sub=1
2. http://www.madeira-web.com/
3. http://www.madeira-island.com/

We are thinking of doing the DCL's Culture and History tour. I really would also like to go to Adegas de San Francisco for some wine tasting.

If anyone has been to Madeira, any advice on if we can squeeze both the tour and the wine tasting in or are there better options?

In the book, there were quite a few recommended souvenirs such at Madeiran boots, embroidery, Portuguese Olive Oil, Lapas escabeche (limpets preserved in brine and vinegar) bubble hats, tapestry, wickerwork, wines and liqueurs.

I have to buy a few gifts for family so any recommendations for the best places to shop would be most welcome.

We have spent a week in Madeira but can't help with your questions, sorry. We don't really shop and didn't get to the wine tasting place. However a friend just said the other day that he would recommend the wine tasting.

Welcome.

I took a good look at the volume of work in my job:surfweb::surfweb: for the months of Sept and Oct and I have decided for my own sanity that it wouldn't be a good idea to take off for two weeks the end of Sept. I am so sad right now but hopefully we will get to cruise together sometime in the future I am actually thinking about the May 2011 EBTA.

Have a wonderful cruise everyone. I will still be reading all your posts and may pop in once in awhile to say "HI":):)

Sorry you won't be with us, but it is great that the same choices are there for 2011, so I hope you book!!

OK so Im so busy I don't get a chance to come on here for 2 days and you've managed to close one thread and create 8 new pages! Will have to catch up tonight!

Hi Sarah, I hope your feeling better :goodvibes

Right, the time has come for me to set off on my adventure. I will see you all on May 5th.

Corinna

I am so excited for you! Have a blast!:yay:

I just love the flowers of spring, don't you?

Such a beautiful colour!

Haven't signed on for a couple of days and had a hard time finding you.

Yesterday I had an endoscopic ultrasound and biopsy of the growth on my pancreas and can you believe after the third test it is still not 100% certain that it is not a cancerous growth. The good news is the doctor was able to drain all the fluid off the growth and they will have the results in a couple of days. He did say he is almost 100% certain it is a benign cyst, but it has to be watched on a yearly basis if the biosy results are negative. He seemed pretty positive so I have decided I am not going to worry about it and take it as it comes. I am just tired of having tests done. This was test number 4. I did tell him if the biopsy is positive he has to get me so I travel for this cruise and he said he did not see why we cold not do that. Just thinking positive thoughts.

Because of everything I have been going through with this Joi told me to upgrade us from a cat 9 to a cat 5 so I did and paid in full. I am really looking forward to this cruise.

Donna

Fingers crossed for you, and sending positive vibes.;)

Sorry to hear that. There will be more cruises :thumbsup2

A big job I know, but is there any way we can have all the wonderful information Kathy and Noel have provided to be saved somewhere? It will be hard finding it later.

Hello Everyone, I haven't been on for while due health, moving and funerals. I see we got to a new thread. Does anyone think I should go back to finish the last thread i was on page 235 to get caught up? Or do you all just want to give the highlights? Thankx Karen

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. We are thinking positive and can't wait to meet all of you.

Welcome to all the new comers and sorry to see some are dropping off, but fully understand.

You guys are saving me a lot of time on research with everything you are posting about the different ports. It is wonderful.

Since I am now really retired, I have more time to do research it seems. Of course, it makes you all the more excited for time to pass more quickly.

I would check with DCL instead of your TA. We just were starting to think of what excursions we wanted to do. So, wanted to see how much OBC we had. So, that's how all this started. So, we got the card which has $400 with it. Then another $200 for rebooking. Then another $200 from DU. So, that's $800 total! Lots of fun stuff we can do!!
My TA is really good about handling things like this. Like when I got the cards- I just contacted TA and THEY contacted DCL and then got back to me about how it was a mistake, but they'd honor it, etc. etc. :)

I let them call because they know the "persons to talk to"- when you call DCL directly yourself you end up getting who knows who- reps who will all say different things each time you call. LOL

I know! This was my reason for reshopping a few months back. I ended up paying around $50 more per person price compared to the price I originally paid but got rid of the FSC and kept my OBC. I just don't see fuel prices dropping any time soon!
I know. It stinks... cause I doubt we'll get the refund/OBC.
But on the bright side... when we changed one of our rooms to the cat 3- it was like a 'reshop' and didn't put on the fuel surcharge. So atleast it's only on one room for us (but it's the room with 3 ppl in it......)

Aw shucks. :sad1:

We have decided we will do the DCL Discover Scuba excursion. If that is not available, we may try to go for a snorkeling excursion like Norman Island. I am sorry that there is no snuba excursions as a backup.

No big shopping for me here either as I would rather be at the beach.

I did my research on Tortola on these websites:

http://www.bvitourism.com/
http://www.bviwelcome.com/
http://www.britishvirginislands.com/tortola.htm

Yeah I wish they had snuba too... that would be ideal for us. When it's Scuba- only DH can do that. :(

Do you have any recommendations as what else might be fun to do in Madeira?

I think you have some good choices. Of course if you like plants then the botanical Gardens is supposed to be lovely. We didn't get there, but went up the cable car to Monte where the toboggan run is(didn't ride), and walked in the Tropical Gardens. The botanical Gardens is close by via another cable car I believe. Our friends enjoyed there.

We had a car, but I got very tense driving(as a passenger!) around the tiny hairpin roads and ended up with really bad back pain, so we didn't drive far after that.

When I was there last September, a large group of DISers did a non-DCL ATV excursion. It was a lot of fun. We rode 4 wheelers around the island and made several stops including a stop at a beach for a swim. I can look up the website info if anyone wants to do something a little different.

We would be very interested!
