I can't recognize my neighbors if they're not surrounded by their backyards.

I can walk right pass a person that I was in deep converation with a few minutes prior and not know them. And then I will give someone the furrowed brow and try desperatly to place them... the grocery clerk or bank teller.

Or my neighbor :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::blush::blush::blush:

My problem is I met many people with work, however with me some aren't in a good way. So, it usually takes me awhile to figure out if I know someone from a good meeting or bad meeting.

The best was a couple years ago friends invited us over for thanksgiving diner. They were having some family over as well. Anyways we were sitting at the table having diner when our friends mentioned what I do. Well, Uncle "Terry" says "I got arrested a two years ago, the officer was a nice guy, he wanted to release me that night but his boss wouldn't let him"

Guess what, I was the one that arrested him. He didn't recognize me, but I recognized him.

My husband isn't too keen on organised events and likes to go with the flow, particularly till he gets to know people. On the Panama Canal cruise when many other cruisers had got to know each other through the thread, or meets, I just knew I couldn't force him into anything so he could enjoy the cruise how he wanted to. Being scheduled or being 'encouraged' to be part of a group is his idea of a nightmare. I went along to a few things and enjoyed what I did.

Michele is the gregarious one in our relationship (I'm too much of an engineer). Yet, I'm the one who follows the Boards. She doesn't get involved until we get on board. We went on a southern Caribbean cruise (Carnival Miracle) and met a large group of people that I had been communicating with on the Boards - it was the most fun that we've had on all of our cruises!

The great thing is that you only do what you want; join in the group activities or do your own thing. Nobody's going to be judgemental!

Hey there.

With DH's continued unemployment (coupled with his insistance on private vs public school for our DS) we're looking on areas where we can cut down expenses, and this cruise is currently on the top of the list to cut. We haven't actually canceled it yet, but it isn't looking good at the moment. It will be a major bummer if we aren't able to go, since we've already bought the transatlantic airfare ($1600 total) and would be giving up the extra $100/pp ($400 total) OBC. Plus, I've always, always wanted to do a transatlantic cruise, and we thought it would be much easier to go now, than when the kids are older and missing more important school periods. But I guess there may be a transatlantic cruise in 2012 that we could consider!

If we do end up canceling, I may keep an eye out for any discounts for booking after the PIF date in case it greatly lowers our cost (since we already have the air which is usually the big deterrent to the last minute bookings.)

Anyway, I'll keep you posted as we look at our options.

Hope it works out for you, but understand the priorities.

I can't recognize my neighbors if they're not surrounded by their backyards.

Or my neighbor :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::blush::blush::blush:

I remember faces, but the names are hard for me.

Soiunds like you are primed and ready to meet our daughter who just turned 6. She has been known, on occasion, to throw a realllllly good fit... Hopefully you will be sadly disappointed, and she won't on this trip... :)

We do appreciate a fine fit from someone else's kid! :thumbsup2

My DH may just be one of them, he is a big kid! When he is having fun and doesn't want to leave somewhere he puts his imaginary "concrete boots" on and tells he he can't leave!:confused3

Oh we love big kids too!!

Oh, Thank-you so much for saying that! I wanted to ask if it would be OK to drop by to some things even though I hadn't committed, but wasn't sure of the protocol. That would be fantastic!

That is the thing we have found with the DCL DIS groups, there is not really alot of protocol. Do what makes you happy. If you didn't sign up for something, but found you had fun at some other things then just come along. All are welcome

I don't get alot of time alone with my DH, so will also cherish every moment the kids are at kids club! Fingers crossed they love it, they are both pretty sociable, but the youngest can get clingy if she's not comfortable.

It has been different with each of our Grandkids. The youngest loved the club during free time, but did not like the organized activities. So, we checked the schedule and he went during free time.

I hope you don't see my youngest throw one! SHe doesn't do it very often, actually we haven't had one for months now, but being out of routine, tired, over stimulated and eating waaayyyy too much sugar is a good recipe for one! She puts on a good show though!;)

Oh, the possibility of another fine fit. Maybe we should start giving scores on this!

For all of you with the potatoe issues, I WISH I had a potatoe phobia! I'll eat them any which way, preferably smothered in butter, sour cream or aolii! Do you think that might contribute to the bottom fat?:lmao:

I love potatoes too, anyway, anytime.

My problem is I met many people with work, however with me some aren't in a good way. So, it usually takes me awhile to figure out if I know someone from a good meeting or bad meeting.

:rotfl::lmao: One of the guests at Dennis' 40th birthday bash (many, many years ago!) said to another....."Aren't you the guy that gave me a ticket?" :rotfl2: He was! Small world!

DH and I would like to join other early dining Dissers. If you need any help, I can help you with the early dining group. Just let me know.

Betty, will be glad to add you. I sent you a PM, please reply so I will have all the names over in my PM box when the time comes to schedule this.

We are staying there too .... but only for one night.

That's great! It's my first time at this resort but I've heard good things about it. Did you get the special rate through the Wine-and-Dine Half-Marathon website?

I was just about to book my ticket through airfare.com, but they wanted the 800# off the back of the credit card to process the charge, which seemed odd. I did a little digging and found a bunch of complaints about them online: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/airfare_dot_com.html. I'm a bit concerned with the frequency people seem to be having trouble with them. Has anyone used them in the past, or is this everyone's first time?

Additional info - I did some more digging and found they have an F rating through the Better Business Bureau: http://www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?national=y&compid=20055. Personally I'd be too paranoid to book with them knowing that, so I'll be sucking it up and paying a higher price. I'm glad no one here has had problems, though, but I wanted to to share what I found.

You are very wise to do this research airfare.com. I didn't do this research before I purchased and now I have non-refundable tix. I did check with American Airlines when I made the reservation and confirmed my ticket. I was also able to pick my seat. So far so good, but I hope there aren't any problems b/c based on the info I saw I may have difficulties with this company. If it all works out, I will have gotten a great rate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

EBTA, then Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and London.

Woody

Have a great trip Woody!!!!!! :cool1::cool1:

YAY! I am finally all booked and paid in full, DCL, all flights, WDW, LA and everything, Completely booked and it feels so good!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Congrats!!!!!

I have big news!!!!!

I am now an owner at AKV!!! Woo-hoo!!! I have been jumping for joy all day!!!! I've been looking into DVC for years now but never purchased. Today was the day though!!! I'm sooo happy!!!:banana::banana:

The basic premise is not sugar of any kind, including artificial sweetners, fruits and some veggies. Sugars cause your insulin to spike making you think you are hungry, and all of it is stored in your belly. A banana has 11 grams of sugar in it! :scared1: It has been pretty filling and satisfying. An example is, 3 eggs for breakfast with a piece of whole grain toast with butter, lunch is one piece of whole wheat bread or whole wheat tortilla with turkey and cheese, dinner is meat/fish with1/4 cup of past broccoli and spinach salad with olive oil. I have lost 3 inches off my waist and 3 off my hips. So I guess it does cover the bottom also!:lmao:

I may have to add this to my low carb diet... As I am stuck at my current weight.

Thank you for your kind words. Sadly, Snoopy passed away overnight. :( I'm going to miss her so much, but at least she isn't suffering anymore. Remy is really confused (she's not sleeping in her normal place) so we're going to give Remy some TLC when she wakes up.

My mom had knee surgery last week and we found out yesterday that she has a small blood clot in her calf so she was in the hospital overnight. She's home now but she has to give herself injections for 10 days and be on blood thinners for 6 months. I'm not feeling all that well, so it's been quite a few days.

It is always so hard losing a furry friend. Hope Remy gets through it. My cat was so lost for about 1 month when I had to put his sister down a few years back and at the end of last year I had to put him down.

Prayers for your mom, my co-workers husband just went through this same thing.

I don't get on here as much as I wish. You are all very talkative, but I try to keep up. I am trying to get organized, so thought I would throw out a few questions that are on my mind and see what you all thought.

  1. Places to eat in Barcelona? I am going to take a look on Zagat.com for some places, but thought some of you may have some suggestions. I am staying at the Hotel Praktik Rambla - 9/6-9/8.
  2. What are you using for a day bag for excursions? I have an LL Bean day pack I got for the Med Cruise I did in 2007, but was in the market for something new. I would like it to have a side pocket for my camelback water bottle (preferably adjustable - as my bottle kept falling out of my day pack) and large enough to carry my small digital camera and Flip video camera; as well as a journal, pen, sunglasses, ipod, cell phone, etc.

I confirmed with Swiss Air also and got a seat assignment. Maybe I will call again just to make sure the seats were actually paid for.

Thank goodness we have known each other for over 21 years that you can still recognize me!!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao::rotfl:

Well Paula I can say My hubby and I have been to New Zealand. In fact we got engaged their :) 13 years ago :)

My question is to all farmville Disers. How are we going to cope without 2 weeks of farming.

Ok my question is are you late or early dining :)

Thats really neat about getting engaged in New Zealand - more details please? Where, how etc etc :)

I plan of harvesting all my crops and just walking away - same with my cafe.

We are early dining, we've always done late in the past and find we eat then go pretty much straight to bed. Decided to try early this time as we tend to be early eaters at home.

I can never get the podcasts to work, re hair, nutter, not sure thats something I would ever do, Ive ran marathons, but shave my hair?
Have you got a justgiving page?

I think you'll be able to hear it from their webpage. I probably can't post the site as the Dis can be particular about putting other links on the boards. Fair enough especially seeing they have their own podcast (which is one of my absolute favourites - I have 3 of their shirts :-) )

It'll be the shortest my hair has been since I was born - I'm interested to know what I'm going to look like without hair ;)

Our fundraising page is http://www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/CommArc

To be fair, I'd shave my hair off any day rather than run a marathon.

Are you still playing on facebook or have you ventured to the website to play? I heard it had got its own site

I play through Facebook - I like having it all in one place as I play Cafe World too.

I have sent you a PM. You are very brave to do this and deserve all the support you can get :hug:

Thanks :)

So with only 6 months to go we decided that we would give ourselves a challenge to see if that would help get us started in the right direction. I actually need to lose at least 14lbs, and aim to do that before the end of July, so the May date is just a short-term goal and I would like to lose 6lbs by then. If I don't get it off I won't fit into any of my cruise wardrobe, so it's not an option, it's a necessity. Wish us luck :wizard::wizard:

Good luck! I know its not easy...

What would people like to be included in the Navigator?

So far I have included:
  • Ship Itinerary
  • Info on the ports off the DCL website
  • Map of the ship
  • List of Dis names including a column to tick for those people that you are doing the FE exchange with
  • Celebration dates
  • Activity dates
  • Notes page

Can anyone think of anything else they would... like in the Navigator?
Locations and times of pre-cruise events (hard rock etc)

Any other ideas very welcome, its your room tour, tell me what do do.
I will do a list of who after weve sorted the details.

Just meet at a public area and then conga our way to each cabin in turn :)

Would a sea day suit you??

I think sea day is best - maybe earlier in the cruise so the cabins are tidy and definitely after the cabin attendant has been to make the beds etc

If you would like to sit at a table with just your family (if you are a family of 4) or with a small group of 4 or 6, but would still like to be in the area with the DIS group just note that when you PM me. We can ask DCL to set up the tables that way. We can have tables of 4,6, 8 and maybe 10. They will arrange that for us. So, don't let your need for a small group dining to keep you from joining with the large group. :thumbsup2

Incoming email :-)

A huge congratulations - that so exciting!

[*]Places to eat in Barcelona? I am going to take a look on Zagat.com for some places, but thought some of you may have some suggestions. I am staying at the Hotel Praktik Rambla - 9/6-9/8.

Thats something that I'm going to be researching, Robert and I are both vegetarian so need to scout out some suitable options...

Okey dokey, I'm working out groups this weekend for the candy bar swap - happy to take any new comers later but will try to rough it out for now so if anyone wants to join please let me know ASAP.

In terms of the ground transport, I'm happy to take your name and party details from Barcelona area hotels to the port. No obligation to partake as we haven't got anything arranged at this point.

Just sent DH the latest cruise plans and itinerary. I was just thinking that today, 24 weeks from now we would be in Frankfort meeting up with family.

We have traveled so much for work over the years that meeting new people seems natural. I can remember one business trip that was 6 weeks long that I still keep in contact with many of the people we met.

To me, one of the greatest things about the DCL cruises has been meeting the people on board. DCL seems to attract the nicest and friendliest people on planet Earth.

I think everyone should participate in their comfort zone. Even though we are empty nesters, we don't mind having kids around but also like time alone as just DH and myself. I think there is more than enough time on the cruise to strike a happy balance for meeting people and having time together.

Just my thoughts....
:surfweb:
Perfectly said.
Random DCL food shot, but my most favorite....
IMG_2892.jpg

panna cotta at Palo, :cloud9:
Stop, with the food shots! they make me hungry!
Hey Lava bread Im sure would go down a treat lol

As for the potato thing I guess I opened myself up to this one. Basically most potato accompliments I have issues with like 99% of the time.

Wont eat - Boiled potatoes, Potato Layonnaise, Proper Mashed Potato, Baked Potatoes not cooked in an oven, Fat chips that aren't mega crispy, Fried Potatoes unless very thin and crispy, New Potatos, Dophinous Potatoes and basically any Potato Bake

Will eat - French Fries (mind if I find one that isn't cooked properly these also get tossed or if they are seasoned in any way!), Mr Smash mash potato (and yes I can tell the difference even when restaurants use potato ricers), Potato Waffles, Potato Croquets, Oven cooked baked potatoes (although if out I wont as most of these aren't cooked long enough) and my beloved Roast Potatoes

I know its weird but I just really find potatoes hard to eat. When we go to TGI Fridays and I have so many issues! Last time I ordered the steak I ordered the mash and the fries as my sides as wasn't sure which I'd eat and ended up eating neither.

I have no idea where my weird potato thing has come from as I don't think its related to anything growing up. Everyone else in the family eats potatoes normally. I've been trying my hardest to get out of it too as Dan loves potato bakes etc but I just end up eating the sauce and leaving the potatoes. I still haven't found any ready made potatoes other than waffles and croquets that Ill eat (and sometimes they go out too if not really over cooked!)

I'm a freak I know it! Tend to just push the potato around the plate so it looks a bit like I've eaten it in restaurants and then no one gets upset, or I give it to Dan! Especially in the UK - asking for a substitute is just not normal. We went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse in WDW in 2008 and I asked to substitute potato for spinach and you would have thought I was mad! The server tried offering me different potatos and it was very embarressing - although I'm sure she was trying to be kind.
I eat ANY type of tatties, cooked anyway.
I am having issues giving up my fruit also, and most of my veggies but I am so happy I am loosing (FINALLY) and feeling great. I'll add them back soon. But I can have potatoes, but I also have potatoe issues!:lmao:

Gizmo, there is lots of hidden sugar in foods. It was amazing to me when I started reading the food lables.

I also really like the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred workout. Gave up Wii Fit.

Good luck no matter what you are doing. YOU CAN DO IT!!! :cheer2::cheer2: (We will do a cheers with chocolate souffles on the cruise. I think after all of our hard work it will be well deserved)
Have a nice spring break.

Thats a shame, but you are right, disney cruise is not a high priority, but we will miss you just the same.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you manage to stay onboard, even if it means rebooking. I bet there will be some deals closer to the time.

Sorry to hear you may have to cancel .... that is a shame :sad2: but hopefully things will be sorted and you will get a great last minute deal :wizard:

:rotfl2: I get this a lot .... people start chatting to me out and about and I have no idea who they are :confused3 ..... until they mention the baby and then it all falls into place :goodvibes

That's great! It's my first time at this resort but I've heard good things about it. Did you get the special rate through the Wine-and-Dine Half-Marathon website?

No .... didn't know there was this deal. I boked through UK Disney website but still a good deal at £90 for the night.

I have big news!!!!!

I am now an owner at AKV!!! Woo-hoo!!! I have been jumping for joy all day!!!! I've been looking into DVC for years now but never purchased. Today was the day though!!! I'm sooo happy!!!:banana::banana:

Congratulations !!! I must really investigate doing this one day.

Places to eat in Barcelona? I am going to take a look on Zagat.com for some places, but thought some of you may have some suggestions. I am staying at the Hotel Praktik Rambla - 9/6-9/8.

We are going to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe .... not exactly Spanish but I am not a big fan of Spanish food so it's the easiest option for me.

I am having issues giving up my fruit also, and most of my veggies but I am so happy I am loosing (FINALLY) and feeling great. I'll add them back soon. But I can have potatoes, but I also have potatoe issues!:lmao:

We have this new system over here were things are labelled with the traffic light system (Green = good in a certain area, Amber = OK, Red = Avoid). Since this came in I have been trying to keep myself off things that are Red in fat maybe I need to start avoiding red in sugar too!

A sea day would be great! But we are flexible so we're ok with whatever works best for the most people. Also, 3pm works for us!

Awww, so sorry to hear about Snoopy. They sure are cute! When I was in high school one of my teachers offered us extra credit if we brought in a mouse to feed his in class snake. Well, I ended up keeping him and naming him Mickey, of course!! I was so proud of myself for saving him and then about a week later my grandma accidently stepped on him while he was out of his house enjoying free time.

Also, for those of you selective eaters...Hi, my name is Chasity and I too am a selective eater. :rotfl: I don't like tomatoes, onions, mustard, mushrooms, avocado, olives and many other things that might taint a meal so I always have to customize my dinner to not include any of those. It's usually not a big deal and I ask really nicely but I always feel like a food diva. lol.

As for having to drag spouses to events...Gus is a ham so he loves to be in groups and meeting new people. Hence why he loves Magic so much. Ironically, I am the shy and quiet one but I do all the Dising and organizing. I'm the one that usually sits back and takes everything in. The funny part is I end up knowing more about people quicker since I've had the chance to notice different things, including putting faces with names! Gus is pretty bad at remembering who's who so don't be offended if he can't remember your name after the 5th time. ;)

Are you sure you're not my sister in disguise? Your list of food no nos is exactly like hers!

Oh and Im awful with names so I wouldn't worry about Gus lol!

I'm so sorry to hear this. Could you possibly transfer to the 2011 one and then move things around? This would give you a bit more leway in things!

I agree, being scheduled on vacation is not my husbands idea of fun. But...he does what he's told! :rotfl:

Oh, My DH is very excited about the Candy/Choc swap! And is even throwing around ideas for the FE.
No, you don't sound unsociable at all!:goodvibes

My DH may just be one of them, he is a big kid! When he is having fun and doesn't want to leave somewhere he puts his imaginary "concrete boots" on and tells he he can't leave!:confused3

Oh, Thank-you so much for saying that! I wanted to ask if it would be OK to drop by to some things even though I hadn't committed, but wasn't sure of the protocol. That would be fantastic!

I don't get alot of time alone with my DH, so will also cherish every moment the kids are at kids club! Fingers crossed they love it, they are both pretty sociable, but the youngest can get clingy if she's not comfortable.

I hope you don't see my youngest throw one! SHe doesn't do it very often, actually we haven't had one for months now, but being out of routine, tired, over stimulated and eating waaayyyy too much sugar is a good recipe for one! She puts on a good show though!;)

I have a gorgeous family friend who has a beautiful figure, she never exercises, but her mantra is - Sugar is the enemy!
I just may have to try this one, sounds like a good time for me to start, going in to winter. I couldn't do it during summer with all the yummy fruit here! So, fats ok, sugars bad!

For all of you with the potatoe issues, I WISH I had a potatoe phobia! I'll eat them any which way, preferably smothered in butter, sour cream or aolii! Do you think that might contribute to the bottom fat?:lmao:

At leas you have something to blame it on lol :rotfl: Me I just get everyone assuming I eat chips all day when I don't honest!
