Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

Hi everyone,,,,,Let me just say John's Hopkins is unbelievable. They get you in and out fast. If changes are made with your appointments, they make it happen.
I had four appointments scheduled,,,Vestibular, hearing test, ENG test and final results. Vestibular--designed to see where the exact dizziness lies. Lots of exercises while wearing goggles to track my eyes and see hopefully the line of treatment. Hearing test,,,last time I had one I was told that for someone my age, my hearing is perfect. This time, the Dr said I had the hearing of a two year old!!! :lmao::lmao:
Now the next test was supposed to be the ENG. That is where they put electrodes on your forehead and you wear goggles and they have you sit up, and lie down while they use a tube to force warm and cold air or water in your ear. It is designed to make you dizzy so they can see which canal in your ear the problem lies. Since the first Dr thought I did so well in the vestibular test, he didn't want me to get any more dizzier so they cancelled the ENG test.
My last appointment was moved up so I only had to wait fifteen minutes to see the Dr and we talked about my tests and how they have discovered that people who have a lot of migraines sometimes then start having problems with vertigo. It was interesting and very informative.
I will go back in three months to see how I am doing and they will do another test to check on my progress.
For now it is called Benign Positional Vertigo which is what I had heard before but with the added information about migraines, it really comes together. He feels I should be better in a few weeks. All I can do for now is keep doing the one exercise he gave me and wait for August.

Right now my daughter Guenna is in the hospital again. She was there on Saturday. They gave her something to stop the contractions and hope she will be able to go home tomorrow. If she can hold off for one more week, they are confident things will be okay even tho her due date is
June 19. This Miss Vivian is sure making herself noticed!!!! I will see her tomorrow and get a better idea on how things are progressing.

Sounds like you are making progress. I am really interested in the exercise he gave you for my DD Jennifer. Would you mind sharing the details?

I don't think I fancy being made to be dizzy, but I guess if it is a means to an end then you have to do these things. I hope all goes well for you.

I also hope your daughter's contractions stop and Miss Vivian stays safe and in the right place for a while longer yet.

This time, the Dr said I had the hearing of a two year old!!! :lmao::lmao:

Is that cause you wouldn't listen!! Those terrible twos are tough!!! :rotfl2:

I sure hope little Miss Vivian stays put for awhile. However, my sister's daughter was born 9 weeks early and she is a very healthy athletic 16 year old today!! They told us when she was born that girls are stronger!! Course, we all knew that!! :rotfl:

The thing about this exercise is that it was determined that my problem was on my right side. I hope this will help

The exercise is very simple. I am sitting in bed with a pillow behind me so that when I lay back, my head will end up lower than the pillow tilted back. I lay back with my head turned to the right and stay there for about 30 seconds. By then the spinning has stopped and then I quickly turn my head left. Another 30 seconds and I roll all the way on my left side. 30 seconds I sit up slowly and stay there for a minute. If i feel dizzy during the day, I do it again.

At this point she is still in the hospital and is probably looking at bed rest if Miss Vivian can stay put.

Terry, great that you have something to work on with the dizziness and vertigo.

I will keep your daughter in my thoughts.

Glenns Grandfater was at Hopkins for a while and I remember him talking about how great they were. Too funny about your hearing... I guess that means you can ignore everything now...

Keeping them both in my prayers. I was on about 5 months of bedrest for Stephen who was about 6 weeks early. You would never know it to look at him now! I onl;y had modified bedrest with Becca (I could get up for a limited time daily. She was only about 12 days early...

Jason,

When I went to Thailand I was still on active duty. Besides our regular shots (that Navy medicine made certain we kept up to date on!), we had to have one special one - mandatory and administered in the buttocks only. You can imagine hundreds of Marines lined up one after another dropping drawers for a Navy Corpsman to "stick it to them!" I honestly don't remember what it was - Yellow Fever, maybe - but definitely not rabies. We were certainly not in the best of places, either.

Good luck!

hi

thanks for that

Not sure i want to imagine 100 marines dropping their draws !!!! LOL my guess is you lot got the best of the best

but thanks for that yeah it seems rabies is a little over kill while i am there for about 2 months at the most .... i am in the main tourist areas so near to the main medical facilities

jay

Just looked t the CDC web site and this is what it said:

Rabies vaccination is only recommended for certain travelers, including:
•travelers with high occupational risks, such as veterinarians
•long-term travelers and expatriates living in areas with a high risk of exposure
•travelers involved in any activities that might bring them into direct contact with bats, carnivores, and other mammals, such as wildlife professionals, researchers, veterinarians, or adventure travelers visiting areas where bats, carnivores, and other mammals are commonly found.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip.:goodvibes

hi

thank you for that it does help

i really think its not necessary and the more i read and hear i am convinced its not necessary

I am glad that you finally got some answers and that you were given some kind of time frame. This sounds really positive. I hope that your daughter's contractions stop soon.

Terry: our thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter.

Just got back from the Alaskan cruise. It was wonderful. But, most importantly Janice and Trevor drove to Skagway to meet us for a visit. It was nice to see them.

Overall the trip was great. Just the usual merchandise problems. Most of the Alaskan items were gone within minutes of the stores opening the first night. Which meant the early diners were out of luck. Now they did have more stock but they just couldn't get it out onto the floor. DCL began to take "orders" but stopped after 12 pages with about 40 lines per page. It then took two days for them to go through the stock and put the orders together. The thing we don't understand was that for the most part the merchandise wasn't dated so it would be available on any other alaskan runs. But, people still needed to run into the store and grab arm fulls of stuff. Oh well, human nature is something we will never understand fully.

Our thread for our cruise to Alaska is so quite! Last night as our 90 day window and I remember this thread going crazy at that point...not so much over there. It's ok though, but I'll miss the great group of people we cruised with across the Atlantic.

I'm still looking for a job...I went to a job fair yesterday with no luck. I'm not giving up, though I feel like it at some points.

We sure did have a great group of cruisers! Seems we have a pretty great one again for this years WBTA.

I know it is a hard time to be out of a job. My BIL Bob has been looking for about 9 months. He has only been able to find consulting jobs. Luckily for him on this last job he has a contract until December and a potential to go full time.

Best of luck in your search!!
