Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

Hi everyone,

Now that we're back, I'm pretty much back in my lurker mode.

I sure wish we could book another cruise right now, but the B2B has pretty much flattened our purse right now, but I'm sure we'll be booking later for something.

Regarding photos - YIKES!!!! I've been sorting out all our pictures (we each had a camera). And with the fact that I'm going through 24 days of pictures (I think we're up around 1500 pictures, at least) it's taking me a little while.

DH reported that he saw someone at DL with the WBTA shirt on and asked them if they were on the cruise. They said yes, but (like a good little DH) he didn't ask her name. So, whoever you were, HI!

:cutie:

That was me!!! Was just there for a quick weekend. Now that I think back, he did look familiar and I feel bad for not recognizing him.

Hi, Monica!

That's OK, he should have recognized you - it's not like he didn't meet you one or two times previously ;)

:cutie:

They replied with scan of the signature card. And, surprise surprise it wasn't either of our signatures. The tone of the this email from them came across to me as "We are giving you a OBC in the value of 50% of the gift price so what is the problem." Well now my problem is that someone is forging signatures and the only way someone get any rectification is to take another cruise just to get a $20 OBC.

We'll have to see what they say now. Still waiting for the next reply from them. They did give us a phone number to call direct but there was no answer.

Sorry for the long email, just ranting.
Jon

just catching up and saw this! This sucks! I know with our Stateroom gifts they actually brought something for us to sign at the same time as the Ducky print card to sign to say we had it and everything was fine. Here's hoping that they actually respond with something better than this!

OK, I changed by reservation to the WBTA again, locked in, paid, room 7506, done........wahoooooooooo!!!
Anyone else? I think Noel said she was going? Come on guys, Lyn and Len? Sarah and Dan? Sarah and Tony? Anyone?...........:goodvibes

Ah Hayley we decided to go for the Dream next year as wanted to do WDW instead. Loved the WBTA but we didn't have long enough in Disney after and with leave we can't really take any longer off than 2 weeks easily (this year was a struggle to get 3)!

yep that was me

i really enjoyed that painting it was so relaxing .. being a kid again god i do not get that chance so often. Sadly i missed the volcano I love that they opened the kids stuff to the adults.. the adult flubber was so funny especially the cast member playing the mad professor. it was brave of disney to let it be adult - and very cool. That comment about white powder was so funny.

jason

We loved Flubber too! As Mandy will tell you we rarely made it to evening entertainment (I blame the motion of the ship making me too sleepy) but that was one that I was determined to go to again! It was so much fun! Definately the white powder stuff was fantastic! I was almost crying. It was also great when the guy sat with us spilt his entire beaker of stuff over the desk and the professer came over to inspect it! Oh and the comment about Sheep in Wales! I loved it! She was fab!

I do not disagree with any of that and in the Parks it was usually the problems with guests not necessarily with cast members. I think being a cast member in WDW must be really hard. On the cruise ship while its alot of work most people are decent enough.

Although i would say the "me attitude" its not restricted to the USA the younger people of the UK are a continual embarressment I saw a group of girls verbally assaulting a woman and 3 year old kid last week because they had red hair ... god really ... I ran the scum bags off.

In my experience if people are idiots they are idiots wherever they are or from whatever country they are from.

jason

I have to say Jason you are right! WDW is a hard job! I know from working there that I would never envy anyone having to put up with some of the things people do! I almost hit some bratty teenager round the head in Earl of Sandwich for clicking his fingers at one of the servers who was clearly busy sorting something out. I think on the Cruise people tend to be more relaxed as they aren't rushing around like headless fairies! In WDW everyone has somewhere they have to be at that moment in time and its manic! I think people just forget that the park isn't built just for them and that there are actually other people there who have paid just as much money as them to go there and do things!

Sorry all I've been so busy this week I've had no chance to post. Hope everyone is OK?

Sue and others I completely understand the frustration re. photos. Obviously there were issues with Shutters on those first few days!

Sometimes I quietly despair about the youth of America. Today I am inspired as I read this inspirational post for any budding entrepreneur or someone thinking about being an entrepreneur written by our nephew Rob.

The Last 5 Years

I write about this, as I reflect on the challenge of personal time vs. startup time as Viddler turns into a 5 year+ activity.

Going from a sprint and then switching into marathon mode mid race has had it’s challenges and changes in mindset.. Here’s some of it..

2006. Fresh out of Lehigh, 22 years old, pushing on Viddler as a startup in the first year, it was 100% Viddler and everything else is including family and friends went on hold. I even stopped drinking a sip of alcohol for a year straight during this period. We raise minimal funds. With less than a $100k budget we launch Viddler.

2007. Second year, still 100%, yet I might have returned phone calls to parents back home in California and went out every month or so. Investors like growth but only commit to 3 months of runway at a time. Very stressful, but push hard and more committed then ever. I remember going to sleep at 2am and waking up at 8am during this time.

2008. Third year, like shingles falling from a space shuttle, it starts to wear down. Still very committed to Viddler in Bethlehem, PA but it’s hard to maintain a nice balance with family in California and no significant salary to take many trips back home to see them. The 6 sleep schedule begins to take it’s tole as I drink 3 coffee’s and 2 Monster drinks per day… I have heart flutters. I see a doctor who tells me to sleep more and take less caffeine. Also during this period, I am starting to realize I have aged faster then any other point in my life.

2009. Fourth year, the hardest. It seems like a second ago I was in college and had many friends in arms reach. That all seems distant. Viddler needs the more focus then ever to get cashflow positive, yet family life needs attention too. True tension at it’s highest. I think many times to when I tore my ACL/MCL/PCL and came back for fourth year against doctors recommendation to play football. I can do this. Still not profitable. Investors are pushing for profitability and it’s been 3 years, 3 months at a time. It’s starting to take it’s tole.

2010. Fifth year, break profitability. It’s a relief. No longer beholden to the next round of investors. Still no expendable income for personal activities and employees around me deserve salary bumps more then I do due to shared sacrifice over last 4 years. I tell myself “if this becomes a big exit I can spend much more time with family/friends then ever before later in life”. Sleep schedule is nice though. I start to wake up when I want to and leave work when I feel I need to. I start running 5 miles a day, and get in control of my health.

I don’t write this to vent at all. I feel very fortunate in so many ways to be where I am at today…..

To be honest, have been inspired by Zappos audiobook lately and the amount of self awareness and transparency Tony Hsieh provides. I write this to provide insight into what life has been like last 5 years so others may get a glimpse into the shifts in mindset as a startup scrappishly mature

Just a quick post to let you all know I didn't fall off the face of the earth.:cool1:

I can't tell you how much I miss being on the Magic. Work has been a horror. I am so glad to be going to dinner theater tonight. YAY! :woohoo::woohoo:

Disney World wasn't the same for me this time. I found standing in line for 35 minutes to get a small plate of food (4 bites) and a sip of wine, when I had good food served to me daily... sigh

I found standing waiting for characters more than 15 minutes annoying. :rolleyes1

I found walking more than a ship's length exhausting. :rotfl:

And where the heck did that spa go? Where are the towel animals? Where is my deck chair?

But more than anything... where the heck are my 300 close personal friends???? I so miss not walking more than 50 feet without a yellow lanyard sighting!

I just miss you all so much it hurts. Really. Miss you all.

And why is there no napkin in my lap?????

I too miss not being able to step out my door and be surrounded by all my new friends.

I hate seeing everyone miss everyone:headache:
Once again, I can believe how much fun and friendship we all made in 14 days!

Now onward...

I booked 5 May 2012 on the Fantasy !!! Anyone else going???

We are fine here and looking foward to a somewhat quiet Thanksgiving this year. And everytime I say that... we have surprise guests!
And Steffy... I agree 100% !

At least you got a thumbnail sheet. We had issues due to a lost KTTW card and none of our embarkation day photos made our CD. We didn't know until we were home, and now it is too late to do anything about it... So, if anyone has photos of the Krafts from Embarkation day, please hang on to them. We are setting up a FTP site and I would love to have them!!

Don't panic Sue, I have them! :goodvibes

I know, I get it, a whole month was just too long for us to be away from our business. We are doing the WBTA again next year, but no WDW, a few days in USA shopping then home. And to be honest, after our latest WDW experience I won't be missing it ;) I'd rather cruise.
The Dream will be fab, we'll need a TR! :goodvibes
