Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

DH doesn't really play basketball...but I am sure he will. I catch him and DS (15) playing 'hoops' in the drive way sometimes! I keep telling him that there will be plenty to do.

DH and I enjoy watching poker on TV. DH absolutely loves playing poker with friends. He might enjoy playing. I enjoy playing too, but DH likes keeping a bit busier than I do so keep him in mind. No basketball though. He's too old.lol. If he was younger he would love it.

Good afternoon cruisers!

Well, our faithful chime (read Emily) has been keeping us posted on how many days left, so I will refrain. Emily, you can post more than that, you know. ;)

Gave the adorable pupper-doo a bath last night. Now he feels all soft and shiny. He does well - he doesn't fight or anything, although he will try to jump out of the tub if I stand away from the edge for too long.

I watch poker on TV also, but I doubt I'd be any good at it. I tend to play everything. :confused3 However, we'll be playing rousing hands of Skip-bo, meandering around the ship, playing shuffleboard (never have before), and watching LOTS of movies. :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: I know I could post more than that, but there was nothing else to post. Like I said before, why have tickers when you have me?

Just got an e-mail from my T/A. She said first seating is still not available for me. She did say that she e-mailed her Disney Rep.. We'll see what happens. No docs yet either.
I am going to play a game called, "the sqeeky wheel gets the grease" with her in the next day or so. She has been most helpful so far, but we want first seating. Don't get me wrong this will by no means ruin the trip if it does not happen. Angela & I have went over it again & again. The idea of eating at 8:30 then not finishing until 10:00+/- is a issue.

We just got our early seating confirmed!! Been on the waiting list since we booked (March 05) and today when I checked the Reservation online it says "Main Dinner Seating 6:00 PM" .... didn't even have to call my T/A and get "Sqeaky" or anything. Anyway, just thought I would let you know to check, looks like they are making some of the requests for early seating now.

Has anybody gotten a stateroom upgrade? just hoping! :rolleyes1

Hey all
I found a dress last night at Dillards for 50 percent off. I could have waited until they dropped to 75 percent but I wanted to have that detail taken care of. Its a black cocktail dress with some beading on the bodice. I just need to get a black shawl or wrap to wear with it because it has tiny little shoulder straps (ooooh lala!).
Jen- I was planning on bringing 4 packs just in case we have time to play Nerts. If you have 4 and I have 4 we will have enough for us and any of our fellow FFC'ers who are interested in playing with us.
I have a quick question for Jen or anyone who knows; what medicine do you use for your kids for motion sickness? I am only worried about when we go on Lord Sheffield, I think they will be fine on the ship. I went to Walgreens and they only had adult products. My doctor said I could use Benedryl but that would just knock them out and they would miss the whole excursion. Any suggestions?
Talk to you all later.

We used sea bands last year. There's a thread about this subject also. Some people are recommended ginger tablets. I know they have children's dramamine in chewable tablets. I'd read about a patch also, but I think you need a prescription for that.

My doctor said to use Benadryl for the kids...but the Dramamine (can't spell) that I bought says it is for children and adults. I plan to call the Pediatrician to check before we leave about the Dramamine...I will let you know what I find out.

Uh oh... Wendy will be mad if she finds this out! She's been waitlisted since Dec of 2004! Actually, I'm sure she'll be happy for you, but she's been wanting and calling on early seating. Congrats, Mark! If you get an upgrade too, you may just be the luckiest FFCer on board!

Wendy, any word on your seating?

By the way, we are using Dramamine less drowsy tabs. We got them at Target and Walmart. I'm only worried about the Golden Eagle because they said it moves at quite a clip and people can get green during it.

Hey all! Great news on the job Susan. Lisa, I'll bet my DH would play poker. He also likes Euker (sp?) and loves backgammon. He likes to do the different golf putting contests and stuff on the ship too. Don't worry, Jim won't get bored. the navigators (daily schedules) can be overwhelming. I was so glad I brought highlighters last year to mark stuff we were interested in. And DD thought they were groovy to color with, too.

Uh, oh, looks like I better check my seating ASAP. Be right back.

And let me know what you find out abt the kids' motion sickness.

W.

MSWint, I just PM'd you for some info. Jenny was right, I'm gonna get cranky. It's just I think we really need early seating -- my DD is 4 goes to bed at 8:30pm central time. So, I know that means we gain an hour, but I still think early would be better for us. It worked out great last year. And we went to the matinee shows so late show/early show wasn't a big deal except for the first night. I love the first night variety show.

Wendy,

... just PM'd you back.
I agree, they had us down for 8:30 seating, that would mean lots of snacking before dinner, then a big dinner, sleep. 6:00 will work out much, much better!!

Good luck!!!!

Our doc said to use Benadryl also. I really trust her so I'm guessing that's probably a better choice for children. I have also heard that seasickness is sometimes related to excess fluid in the inner ear, and medicines like Benadryl and Sudafed help to dry up that fluid.

Wendy - call DCL and talk to a supervisor. They seem to be able to magically make things happen.

Great job to all of those shoppers! I'm going to try my luck over Labor Day weekend. I seem to need my DM along to get anything. We'll just pretend to shop for her and then I'll find all sorts of things.

What is Nerts?

Sweet Sue

Sue - NERTS is a card game where everyone at the table is playing solitare(very quickly). You have 13 cards in your NERTS pile and five cards in front of you to play solitare on. When you have an ACE you put it in the center so that everyone can play on them and you can play on everyone elses. The first one to play all their NERTS cards wins, so you have to play fast. You get one point for each card that you have played in the middle and five points for the first one to yell NERTS. If you still have NERTS cards you deduct those from the cards you have in the middle for your grand total for that hand. You can play to whatever you want to.

So are you totally confused yet? :confused3 :confused3

Trisha, I don't know if you checked, but we got early seating too. Wendy, you must get it...or we can just pull up chairs ;) I have children's dramamine. Don't know if it works but that is what the pharmacist gave me....I am also taking benedryl but don't want them tired. He said the patches are to strong for the kids. I wonder if you could cut them in half or something. They are supposed to be the strongest med for adults (per the pharmacist). I just got a formal at Foleys (May Co) for $29.99. It is black, like my other one. I am thinking of only bringing one and not carting two around for two weeks. No one will notice, right. Also, got dress shoes for Trenton, and two more skirts for me. ANNNDDD some bling for my dress....from Claires :rotfl2: :rotfl2: cheap bling shhhhhh!
Bike ride nearly killed me. I think of flat as, say, the grocery store floor.....she thinks of flat as,,,not in the mountains. I'm sooooo tired!

Jen- I just checked our ressies and we were changed to main seating (Yeah!). I was prepared to deal with it if we got late but I figured it would be easier on the kids if we had main seating. Steve and I normally like late seating on a cruise but we also usually cruise without the kids.
Sue- Nerts is a very fun and exciting card game that I taught Jen while we were out visiting them last year. It is a fast game, sort of like speed solitaire. Everybody has their own deck of cards and everybody plays on everybody's aces. This is why we need so many decks and all need to be different. Maybe we will be able to have a Nerts tournament on board!

I think I will try Walmart tonight and see if they have Dramamine for kids. I got Bonine for Steve and I on a "just in case" basis for our boating excursions. Fortunaly, we have never been bothered by seasickness on the ship. I am going to try it out on us and the kids before the cruise so we know how we will react to it. I am hoping we won't even need it at all.

Nerts is very fast and fun. Sounds more diff than it is. When Steve and Trisha were out, we played everynight.

Sue- I guess Steve summed up Nerts pretty good for you. We can make it more clear on the ship if we end up playing.
