Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

O.K. Jen.......you are right, I would rather be driving around town dropping off and picking up than talking to the teacher every night about behavior issues! It is such a catch 22......the talking I mean, I am one who believes the kids need at least a partial recess. I would always let them out for at least 5 minutes at the end, even on the worst day. UGH........poor Jen. Have you tried anything positive.........if you make it through the week (day :rotfl2: ) without a call from the teacher, then you can have............who knows sometimes that has worked for me. Good luck ;)

I am not sure about the camcorders.......all I know is they did not want to sell me anything they had except tape which we already have. To be honest we are not big freaks about our pictures so we would probably never know the difference. I would like a little one that I could fit in my purse and also have it be a digital camera. We never feel like we take enough pictures, so I think that might make it more likely that we would.

I am really going to try NOT to buy any new clothes for the cruise! Now there is a challenge. Dress shoes for the kids are usually a need, but we should have enough nice clothes to make it for a week. My husband, however, has lost some weight and might not fit in the suits he just bought (darn him), so he might need new. Me on the other hand, my story is a little different :mickeybar .

I was also thinking about Jen and your laundry dilema..........you know they will do laundry on the ship for cheap. I don't think it is really out of line. You could also send it out at the hotel. DCL turns it around pretty quickly and so do the Disney properties. That might save you a little room, as far as packing. Just an idea.

Don't you all love how the anticipation for the cruise is almost just as exciting as the cruise itself. It is truly the vacation that keeps on giving! :wizard:

Good Night,

Missy

I am hooked on a new TV show - Brat Camp on ABC. You'd think I get my fill of this stuff at work all day, but this show makes me want to apply for those therapeutic wilderness settings!

Not much is new. Dinner was good. :) I'm going to head to bed soon.

For the camera connoisseurs, I have a good ole fashioned point and click. DSis wants to buy a camcorder for when we go to Guatemala to pick up the baby. She's a slow shopper (went to gather info about 3 months ago, still in the "research" mode). it'll be fun to record that part of her life.

Well, ttyl!

Hey, I also have one child in trouble all the time. He really tries I think but he just walks into alot of it. He needs to be doing something at al times like banging a pencil on a desk, touching another student, or just talking. I have been after the schools to test him for ADD because even when we study for tests he loseshis concentration after a little while. He almost didn't pass and years ago he was straight A's. I even waved the most important thing in his face, a dirt bike and still he didn't do well. You just need to know how much he wants a dirt bike to know that he tried his best. So, I'm not looking foward to him going back to school. In summer I hardly have any problems with him but in school I look at caller i.d. before I pick up my phone to see if it is the school. Out of four kids I have never got a phone call from any of the others except for him. He is a good kid though and he cares about others also so I just need to get him through high school and he should be fine. I HOPE!

Hi all. Feeling very anxious this evening. Not sure why. A lot going on at work and all I want to do is plan for the cruise! And I"ve got to get started on this diet. I keep blowing it! Oh well.

Anyone know a good source for the individual Woolite packets?

Jen, I think you should leave a suitcase at PopCentury while on the cruise. I'll bet they'd store it and then you wouldn't have to worry abt amt of clothes. Just having 2 wks worth of undies! :cool1:

Sweet Sue, great catch-up msg.

Dillards. 75%. Love it. We bought DH all new clothes last year and new shorts for me since, uh, my old ones didn't fit. I am determined to be back in the old ones this year! Anyway, the only thing he was in charge of was picking out a swimsuit for himself while I checked out stuff for DD. I cam back and I swear he picked out and bought the ugliest one there. And I saw so many cool ones. Hopeless. He's pretty well set w/ snazzy cruise duds from last year and since I seem to have become a compulsive internet shopper in the last year, well, I'm ok on clothes.

Gonna go do some work. :earboy2:

Just posting to see if I could od the countdown ticker thing also. I tried already to do one but it didn't work but how you explained how to do it I wanted to try it again so here goes.

Lorra

Way to go Lorra, another proud member of the Ticker Club.

Just sitting here at the bowling alley. Spend way too much time here. Jason bowls Tuesday & Wednesday and we both bowl on Thursday. This fall we'll switch to Sunday night and Tuesday will be dropped and I think we'll add Thursday night again but just for Jason.

So I figured since our bowling alley has wireless internet access, I'd chat with all of you guys while he bowls that way I don't get behind with everything going on with all of you guys. You all have been busy tonight. Seems like I'm checking every 5 minutes and there is almost always a new post.

Well this is probably it for tonight, check in tomorrow.

Emily

I tried ti do a second one and now all the writing for the second one is under the first ticker. What happened?

Lorra

Good morning from Hoosierland!!! Long night at work for me. Just a little busy
The baward stands for our first letters in our names.

The camcorder deal. We have a Panasonic mini dv(tape), which also has a digital camera option on it, 2 megapixels (I think). Don't use it much. The digital camera on it was used to take the pic that is posted on Jen's site. We are very pleased with the camcorder. It is a WORLD of difference from the old bulky VHS cams. The picture quality is outstanding. We were told and read about the cams that use the actual disc. Not a good media for quality, but hey who knows. I would assume those would be fine, alot more pricey though.
Sue- good to hear from you. If you ever need anybody to test out a new Motorola cell phone, let me know I'm shopping for one. :teeth:

Jen- Angela  is still a work in progress(as far as posting). Its like the squirrel at the park, one day it will eat from your hand the next day it won't even get close to you. Don't take that the wrong way, definately not comparing her to a squirrel.

Emily- I might bug Jason to show me a couple of things on my SLR camera. I've read the book twice but still can't figure out what all the settings do.

Sherrie- when does football start up there? Would love to hear how your quarterback is faring.

Thats all I got for now. Have to go to bed and get rest. I need to get up early and mow the lawn, in a attempt to get my manly badge back.

Talk to ya'll later,
BRAD

Good morning all :sunny:

Well I'm a little upset this morning, was on line and was checking into military rates learned there are none for the retired side of the fence. :sad2:

Any way while I was on the line with Disney I asked about my own rates.... seems the TA charged two much!!!! :scared1: I could book an upgraded room for me and DH and two upgrades for second room for kids for less that I have already paid!! To the tune of almost $2000.. :faint: ..well... :chat: talked with the head supervisor at DCL and was told to go through my TA to possibly have any or all corrections made. The word I didn't like used was possibly..so I called the TA who had left to take a group out cruisin till Sat. :scared: I ded leave a message. I am also calling the TA office today there is more than one person in the office, but I know they will say when he returns...blah...blah

I understand everyone has to make his/her fee on things....but give me a BREAK!! That's a little much. :crazy2:

Tammy, that is aweful. Maybe you could just call DCL and get them to cancel that ressie and then have them rebook it at their price. I don't know if our TA charges any extra, but I know the cruise is the same price as what DCL says it is.

Brad, if you're still having trouble with it I'll see if he'll look at it with you. He's had a blast with it all week and has taken some incredible pics, and I've only seen them on the computer, but the quality is just amazing. He's been using it everyday. What type of SLR do you have? Our's is an Olympus E300.

Later everyone,
Emily

I asked DCL to do that very thing and they told me I would have to go through the TA??? Which I found strange. :confused3 I also sent him an e-mail, just in case he checks that while he's cruising...you never know. Of 'course the T Agency told me I would have to talk with him about changes, he is the owners husband. I'll keep you updated....Thanks

Tammy  :faint: I think Emily has a good idea. I would check with Dreams Unlimited. They can hold the reservation for you while you cancel the other one...and they are a lot cheaper than the Disney prices. Are you still in the window where you can cancel without penalties? If so, you can use it as leverage with your ta. Good luck!

Brad, Still a little slow brainwise here...Brad, Angela, Brady and Abby ...BABA, ABBA, ABAB further explain Baward to slow Jennifer, please.

Is anyone going to use Shirley with a perfect gift? I would love to have something for my kids when they walk in, but don't know what to get....don't want a bunch of junk...any ideas? I was thinking, instead of having the pillowcases signed by the characters and returned at the end of the cruise.....what (I'm scared to say it :duck: ) about signing them yourself (the characters names....you know they are just people dressed up, right :p ) and leaving them on the beds at the beginning of the cruise (like Mickey left them there) so the kids can enjoy them the whole time. I always laugh at the adults that lineup to have them signed (not laughing at you all of course)...THEY ARE JUST KIDS DRESSED UP!! ;)

Sweet Sue, Good to hear from you. Your post made me laugh out loud  twice! The drinking thing :drinking: :drinking1 with your dd was hilarious and the J and J exciting diatribeline :rotfl2: Hope all goes ?well? with DGM. I know what you mean about it ending quickly.
Missy, good idea about sending it out...wonder how I find out about that? Do you know?
Shmora, So sorry about DS. I hope this is a temp thing. I think the expectations are a lot higher under this teacher. I feel like I am to the point, unless she contacts me, I am going to assume all is well. If he comes home and tells me he got in trouble and I punish him everytime, he is going to start lying. I think an honest relationship is more important than talking in class. Obviously, contact from the teacher is a different thing. This too shall pass...

Thank you Jennat, I never looked at it from that point with my son. I think he is getting too discouraged that he doesn't even try alot of the time because he ends up getting into trouble over sometimes petty things. They never point out what good things he does and that doesn't help his situation out alot.

Lorra

Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wave2: :wave2:

I am still reading here, your posts are awesome, what a great bunch you are.....Jen, I am so with you on the problems with raising children, and such...I have some trouble also, and like you, if I hear nothing, I am excited beyond belief....There are so many expectations for us to make, and it does start young.....One more month off, and then reality bites for us with school.. :cool1:

Brad, thanks for asking, we are on a two week hiatus from football practice, and the first game is on August 13th..My son is SOOOO DELIGHTED :bounce:, and naturally we are also....

To everyone in this heat wave, it is unbelievable....By reading CNN this morning, there are many worse things, but this is getting on my nerves..lol...Oh well soon snow will be here, and we will be shoveling...

ALthough we missed the boat (literally) on this cruise, if you all pick a certain date for next year, would you kindly let me know....

ENjoy your planning, and your day.. :grouphug:
SHERRIE

Jen- I just cut of the numeral 2 of my email address. baward2=Brad,Angela, w/ 2 kids. Make sense? Now that I look at it I'm not sure it makes sense to me. Oh well. Just for the record the grass is partially cut. I was cruising around the back yard, when the lawnmower........ it just quits. Can't get it started again. BIL is coming over to look at it tonight.

Emily-I have a Cannon EOS Rebel, about 3 years old. Basic package, nothing fancy. It has the dial on it that has settings if you are taking pictures of people, landscape( i.e. cruising by a island in the caribbean, while sitting out on a verandah with the ocean waves splashing against the ship, sipping on a cool refreshing beverage :cloud9: ) ok back to reality. Man am I ready for this trip!!!!

Tammy I would hound the heck out of those folks. That is a MAJOR difference in $$.

Got to go get ready for work. See ya'

BRAD

Brad, An important piece of information that I was missing, that I just figured out. Is your last name, by chance, Ward. If so it allllll makes sense. Good sense even. If you don't know that, then, not so much. ;) :rotfl2:
Sherrie, Always good to hear from you. I hope you feel comfortable jumping in when the mood strikes you. You are and will always be part of this group. :love2: I think you know that. Hope things are starting to improve at home. We are part of that heat wave. I LOVE airconditioning. I don't really notice it, because I just stay in my little bat cave, and when I go out in my bat mobile it has air, too and I visit only the Gothum stores that have air...are you seeing a trend. I can't imagine not having air, I would shop all the time!
Karen (KD) How's it going?

Tammy, hope everything works out, I'm sure it will. Jen's idea sounds good, can't ever hurt to try. :confused3

:wave2: Sherrie!!!! Glad to hear everything is going well with you and your family. We'll be on the 9/16/06 2xCC Costa Maya cruise if you want to join me & Missy (she'll be there too).

Brad, cameras are such fun. I won't even touch that Olympus, way too complicated for me. I just want a simple point and click digital camera. That's good enough for me.

How's everyone's diet going? In all so far, since I've been dieting before we started the challenge, I've lost 10 pounds and my goal is 10 more before I get fitted for my dress in August. Right now I've lost 1 or 2 towards that. Keep it up everyone, we can do it, there's power in numbers.

Later everyone,
Emily
