Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Goodmorning, (I think) :rotfl2: whew don't you just love days that start out rushed...not just reagular rushed but under the gun heavey pressure kind of rush!! :teeth: Where your dressing on the way out the door have to stop and hold clothes together to lock up. Putting on shoes in the drivers seat as your backing up...

Now it's toned down just the regular :badpc: work day for the rest of the day.

I love the 20" due to it's easy to maneuver and the larger the bag the more we all tend to fill it up, may be heavy for you. I would think what is more comfortable for you. 'Course you can always have DH's help :rotfl: I know I won't have to much help from that area due to my DH disabilities. But I'm going with a lot of teenagers :rotfl2: :rotfl2: they really have no clue as to why they were invited to come! :rotfl: Good luck!!

Hello all!
Wendy, We, too, are going to buy a camcorder before we go. I want a little one that records onto a memory card or disc....NOT a tape. I haven't done any research yet so I don't know more. Have you thought of getting your old one fixed? Is it worth it? As far as the hotel, I can see both sides. My inclination is to just drive from your house BUT 2:30 is early, you won't be able to sleep the night (hours) before and that makes a long day. Will Phoebe sleep in the car? If not she is going to be cranky. Good luck.
A plus on the 20" rolling suitcase...you can get a lot in them (we went to Vegas for two days, California for two days (inc a wedding) and only packed that. (there was some divine intervention, I think)
Tammy, Good that you got all the "stressful" part of the day out of the way in tht morning....now you can just relax and have a good day!
Great job on the 5 lbs, Christal!
Lastly, I threw away the Baklava. :cool1: :cool1: Who's impressed! I then had to take the trash out so I didn't start digging in the trash can. :rotfl2:

I"m very impressed on the baklava since I was chomping on Doritos when I read that. Another week failed....

So we have 3 22" suitcases, a 26" suitcase and a garment bag that we checked last year, but do you think the 20" would be good as my "carry-on" and easier to lug than a heavy leather duffle type bag?

I'd like a camcorder like that too, but I think they are quite a bit more expensive.

Wendy, I'd get the rolling suitcase. It will be much easier to deal with in the airport instead of having to lug around a big bag.

It is my nickname at work so I use it as my Disname but I guess I can use Lorra and everyone will know it is me now so I will be signing my name Lorra from now. I'm sorry for the confusion.

Lorra

P.S. We made our count down chain now so the kids know how many days we have left. Does anyone else use these so the kids don't drive you crazy about asking when do we leave on vacation yet? Every night some one takes turns cutting off a piece of the chain. Well, everyone have a good day!

Shmora,
We are happy to call you that. We(I) were just wondering where it came from. Don't change for us. Shmora it is. PS your co-workers don't have to remember how to spell it! ;)
Wendy, I say, which ever you can get more in and it easier to carry around you should go for. It is about 17.7 miles from check in to the plane in Denver. Okay, perhaps I overstate but not by much....so I don't want to be lugging things on my shoulder. If you can find a great deal, go for it. If not, don't worry about it.
The camcorders we are looking at will be between $500 and $800 dollars. Ouch! but I don't want to lug our big one around, but it works fine so if we are going to upgrade, we may as well get what we want. I say you should look into getting your old one fixed if it is still like something you would buy. I bet it would cost you btwn $100 and $200 dollars. Speaking of money, as I scrub my barstools, hardwoods and walls, I am trying to devise an arguement to get my husband to pay for a cleaning service for me even though I don't work and have kids in school full time. I have a feeling he is not going to go for it. I thought maybe a lawyer could argue it for me! Any ideas?
Should be 104 degrees in Denver today. A record breaking day. HOT! TGFA
Thank goodness for airconditioning!

Lorra Shmora -- NOW I get it. That's cute.

I just ordered my FlipFloppin gear -- Grey T for DH, wht T for DD and wht tank top for me. Yay. Unfortunately I waited too long and didn't get the benefit of the $5 off coupon.

Can anyone explain to me how to get one and then what to do with it??? I really want a countdown timer.

I too am impressed about the Baklava ( I'm guessing it's choc??)

I'm starting to be serious about this diet thing, guess that's a good plan anyway. Haven't weighed yet, scale on the fritz...probably broke it last week :rotfl2:

Have a good one

Tammy,
Baklava is a greek pastry with ???honey???flaky????all in all just wrong, but in a really good way. Get it?
go to http://www.daisypath.com/anniversary.php or http://www.tickerfactory.com/Travel/travel.php?type=4&sub_type=7 and choose your ticker ruler, next, ticker slider, next, put in your text and time, next, highlight your url, right click and hit copy. Come to this site, hit user cp, update signiture, paste it in there. You can preview it to see if it works. Ps this is how you get a pic in there too. Upload to www.photobucket.com and it creates a url for the picture...cut and paste in your signiture. You need to minimize the size at photobucket under edit first. If anyone cares.... Holler if you have problems

Tammy, go to www.tickerfactory.com and just select the background choice you want and then the ticker item to go on it. Then it takes you to a page where it has the ticker code (that's what I'll call it) and look and make sure you copy the right one, and then come back here to the DIS and go to User CP and click edit signature and just paste it in there. Then come post to make sure it worked. I just love them, I already made on for the cruise for next year, but since I have 3 on there already, I figured I'd wait until after this one to post it.

Ok guys I'm going to try this...not to computer savy. :badpc: Giving it a try 'cause I just love them!!

Thank you for all your support :wizard:

Way to go Tammy, you have offically joined the ticker club!!! :cheer2: Like I said I love them, it makes the time go by so much faster just looking at them.

I can already see that it would make the time go by faster...just seeing it, I thought WOW..not to far off!! :earseek:

Thanks!

Boy, was I behind...

Cameras: we liked our Canon... have a Kodak now that I like because it has a 10x optical zoom, rather than digital zoom.

I don't even want to think about formal night right now. Nothing at all to wear and no prospects. I'm sure I'll come up with something at the last minute.

Not a lot new here, just wanted to let you know I'm still alive!

Karen

Hey everyone,

Congrats on the ticker Tammy! 'S good. GOOOOOOD. (Bruce Almighty, anyone?)

Just got back from church. DSis is good enough to have made me dinner. Pupper is sitting next to me on the couch as I type (wireless cable internet, so we can be online in anyroom of the house, and believe me, I've tested it! :rotfl: :rotfl: ). I'm in a bit of a bind as I'm trying to find "dog care" for the weekend. My best friend said she'd housesit, but she forgot and made other plans. So now I'm looking for alternative care. I don't want to kennel him if I don't have to.

Well, dinner is served. Be back later probably!

We thought about buying a new camcorder that is disk as well. When I went to the local photography store.......they did not want to sell me disk version. The guys that work there said the picture was not as good as film yet........I had a credit card in hand and was willing to buy whatever they said! It was fathers day.......ended up a Home Depot buying an aircompressor? I am not sure what for, but my husband thought it was fabulous. :confused3 It had some sort of airgun or something, it's all greek to me........and I only speak German!!

Not much else here..........slow week for me, but a busy one for the kids. They are in all kinds of camps and social stuff, I am just the coordinator though. Next week will be busy, as I am doing a training in Cincinnati 2 days (driving back and forth). All the while still acting as camp coordinator for my kids. They all start swimming lessons too next week.

How exciting to have your own dress made.........just like getting married. I will just be wearing the same crap I wore last year, providing I can smash my body into it!

Jenny, I love the comment about wearing whatever you want on vacation because you don't really know anyone! Great attitude! I don't expect that you all will talk about me when you see a middle-aged, pudgy woman in a thong bathingsuit right?? :rotfl2:

Have a good day everyone......

Missy

Hey all! Missy, I would gladly trade you. I get to have "talks" with my sons teachers everyday on his behavior. Now if you don't think that's fun...get out of here. I just want to shake him. I feel like I am in this .."don't talk in class, so he misses the one recess he gets, so he doesn't get to talk then so he talks in class, cycle and they don't get out until 4pm. He has sports and homework  I just feel like stepping back and letting them resolve it. I'm tired. He is such a good kid...just has no impulse control. This too shall pass, this too shall pass....
We Want Angela, We want Angela
Where is she Brad? Huh, huh?
Don't forget formals (and all clothes for that matter) will be 75% off at Dillards before we go. Also, Ross always has cheap dresses. I am hoping mine will fit. Still deciding whether to take one or two...brains say one but you know I will bring two.
As far as the camcorders go, what about the ones that record on the memory cards....are they any good yet?
  Sherrie Are you out there? How are you?

Whew! I made it! :cool1: Even with all of the "longest" post wars! :rotfl2:

Work managed to slow down just a bit. I didn't head off to Memphis after all - that'll wait until next Monday. DD either stays with her Dad or with DNana depending on how the stars align. Next week will be DD's Dad's time. He loves her lots so it'll be a good time for her. My former MIL is also supposed to visit during that time so DD should have a blast!

DGM is still hanging in there. She sleeps most of the time now and is taking morphine for pain. I just hope her time is short now. Thanks to everyone for thiinking of us!

Now on to the FUN! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc CRUISE? Anyone here going on a CRUISE? :cheer2:

Let's see if I can remember questions from posts before:
Two most important things to bring on cruise (are you sure we can't include family????): 1) a sense of humor - especially during h******* season, 2) my comfy pj's - everything else can be bought!

Shore excursions: None booked. DD is just a little too little for most of the excursions we'd like to do and the ones she can go on won't work well for my no attention span kid.
Oh - and to the person who booked about the Dolphin excursion THEY ARE AWESOME and are voted as the #1 excursion quite often.

Palo's ressies: Monday, 3pm tea; Wednesday, 6:30pm dinner - will be moving to 8pm via concierge when I have the chance, Thursday, 11am brunch. I know - silly to have brunch right after dinner but it kind of worked out that way....

Spa ressies: OH - the 3rd thing would be A MASSAGE! Sunday 8 for DNana, 9:30 for me, Stone Massage. Friday 1pm for Nana, 2pm for me, Cabana Massage

Cell phone: I won't post it here - but will send it to anyone that PMs me and also to Jen. I live in Florida about 3 hours from the port and will be glad to update on any pending storms or h********s. I booked this cruise just so I wouldn't have to evacuate this year! Although last year was weird. I've lived in this house for 5 years and prior to last year I only evacuated once. And just because the season will be active doesn't mean all the storms will pester Florida!

Welcome to all of the newbies! Glad to have you onboard (bad pun, I know...).

Packing list. Well, I took the one off of the list and put it into both word and Excel and promptly forgot all about it. I sort of figured out formal and semi-formal night. Does everyone where long dresses or can I get by with a shorter dress for formal night? DD has a bunch of summer dresses since there are NO formal dresses anywhere for sale in South Florida. Maybe closer to the cruise.

Drinking - we've got a mixed bag in my family. My Mom doesn't drink barely at all except when us kids force it down her throat so she'll quit annoying all of us over some unimportant detail that didn't go how she wanted it too! Since she only drinks wine I will be lugging an entire case with me just to make sure we all have a happy, happy time! :rotfl: I'm middle of the road and don't drink much at home (maybe a glass of wine with dinner) but then make up for it during vacation - because I just HAVE to be the party girl like I was still 20. My DB will be burning the midnight oil in whatever club he fancies doing his best to consume every single last bottle of liquor on the boat. :drinking1 My DSIL is a little more sedate but will drink her share. My DD4 will gladly pick up a glass, swirl it and sniff the aroma to see if it's worth drinking! Oops - guess there's been a few too many wine tastings at my house.

Okay, so I think I'm all caught up - I'm sure you'll let me know if I left anything out.

Wow - I have no idea how you do it J & J. I thought this post must be MILES long but it pales in comparison to your exciting diatribes!

Missed everyone this past week!

Sweet Sue (who better go find out what her DD has been doing for the past hour while I wrote this post...)

Hey everyone out there camcorder shopping. I asked my photographer husband which one he would recommend and he said any of the Sony HandyCams w/the mini dvd's. They're easy and compact and everything is saved to easy to keep up with discs.

I get the alterations done on my formal Aug. 13. That is my lose weight campaign deadline. I also need to find a new pair of silver heels, since my pair that I love so much broke and probably can't be fixed. Jason told me to go out and just get a new pair.

Anyone staying at the Embassy Suites Friday night? It's the one near the airport. Everything is finally in place since our flight was cancelled.

Emily
