Sept 16 2012 - WONDERing who's on the Calif Coastal with me?!

Hi everyone, this will be our first cruise. My DH and my DS (12) are looking forward to meeting up with fellow Disney fans and just having a great time. Im considering signing up for the FE but can't figure out where to do that. Any help would be appreciated.
See you all on the ship!
Ann

You can seem a PM to CruiseTink who is organizing the FE. She will put you on one of the lists.

Ann and I have been in contact and their info has been added to the FE list.

FYI -- Both FE lists are now closed. It's just 2 weeks before sailing so everyone needs time to finalize their plans. So excited we have had such great participate with the FE exchange! :earsboy:

Counting the days!

I have 2nd seating, is there any way I could go to the first seating's breakfast? I've heard that the ship doesn't even get cleared until like 9:00 so would it make a difference if we ate breakfast early? If so, what time does BBB open on debarkation day?

During the early seating for breakfast, the group who sits at your table number for the early dinner will be having breakfast so unless they don't show up for breakfast, there would be no place for you to sit. You can go to the BBB instead but not sure what time they start serving...I would think it's about the same time as the main dining rooms.

For our last cruise (Mexican Riviera) we had the early seating and then had to wait for our character to get called for debarkation....ours was one of the last ones! We ended up waiting in Diversions though and played games so it wasn't so bad waiting.

Yeah I think what I'll do is request the first tags, and we will carry our luggage off the ship. I just hope our hotel will hold our bags until we can check in because if we get off the boat at 8:00, we should get to DLR no later than 11:00ish.

DLR question for the local pass holders and regulars. Do you think DLR would be less crowded on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend or the following Sunday? Since all the passes except Deluxe are blocked and most schools are back in session and with the cars land as a new attraction, I am thinking it might not be bad. The following Sunday (9th), all passes are good and after being blocked most of the summer I would think the pass goers are ready to go. Thoughts?

Tags are given by room location not by request. Most hotels will hold bags. But in all reality the time between calling tags is not that long. They did it in vancouver and we were towards the end and our bags where called before we even had our food for second seating.

It is a pain to carry your bags off since there is not much room in the dining rooms for all the stuff.

I'm thinking that it will probably not matter which Sunday you go on. Because the passes are blocked this weekend, you might be lucky to have a little less crowd, but not much. Just my take. But, I have found that Septemeber is a great month to go and with Carsland, Disneyland might not be as crowed as it normally would.

Hope that helps some.

JOHN LASSETER WILL BE ON OUR CRUISE!!! I really admire him after dealing with such a professional setback. I use John Lasseter as a key figure with our university honors business program students for their Senior Experience that includes on-site Disney Institute workshops! Seriously, I will probably pass out!!!

I was so glad to see this on the blog. I've seen him at several presentations and met him once. I guess I don't know what professional setback you are talking about? Did I miss something?

As a young professional he was originally fired from Disney Animation. I guess it was fate, karma, or a "God thing" that he's in his current position.

ah yes.. I knew that..thought it was something recent:scared1: Good thing that happened or we never would have had Pixar..what an amazing talent and so glad it all came full circle.

I have a friend who works at DL and she said this last Sunday (when some of the passes opened up from the summer block out) was completely bananas...the worst she's seen in a long time. I have a feeling both coming weekends you mentioned will be the same since everyone wants to see Cars Land. But, I think Labor Day weekend will be worst because of non-passholders having their end of summer hurrah.

Sooooo close!

Hope everyone has safe travels to SoCal to begin our adventure! :moped:

Don't forget about the meet-ups we have planned:

DIS Meet-Ups!
Embarkation Meet-up for DIS Board members will be 3pm on Embarkation Day in the Promenade Lounge (Deck 3)! Everyone is welcome!!

Pub Crawl - Day 2 (First At Sea Day) - Meet in Diversions (Deck 3) at 10pm and we'll work our way around the ship!!

Cabin Crawl - Day 5 (Second at Sea Day) - Meet in the Lobby Atrium (Deck 3) at 2:30pm - we will give each other a tour of our cabins to see what options are available on the ship.

See you real soon!

I may be doing this wrong as I see the wrong quote ahead of my reply.... still getting used to this board. Sorry!!!!

Remember also that many schools in California have not started yet so you may also have extra crowds over Labor Day due to the last hurrah of summer for the locals. As a So CA resident I stay home all weekend. The freeways will be a mess as well near LA and to and from San Diego, Vegas etc. If I were going to go I would go the weekend after Labor Day if my plans allowed. However with the right planning and vacation happiness spirit even crowds can be tolerated. So if it's your only weekend go but go early, as early as possible. They do close the park on many holiday weekends when it gets to capacity. Pack your patience and some snacks and water (or even a sack lunch to really avoid lines at the restaurants). Also if you don't care about parades etc that is a great time to see some of the more popular attractions. Just make sure you get to the area you want to be at. I worked crowd control in high school at Disney and if you don't get to either the Tomorrowland side or the Adventureland/Fronteirland side before the parade starts you are stuck. It has also been nearing temps in the high 90's or low 100's the last few weeks. Hats, sunscreen are a MUST for anyone planning on being outside all day in our area.

I am double posting... sorry... just getting used to how this board works. I replied above this post as well. In a nutshell here is what I said: Here in CA our kids have not gone back to school yet so there may be crowds for that last summer hurrah. If you do go over the holiday go very early as on the 4th of July it closed due to capacity. You can bring in your own food and water now so that will save time also during the lunch hour if you can eat your own food in line etc. Try and see attractions during parades etc. if you don't really have to see those. It has been high 90's low 100's so plan on really hot weather and full sun. Lots of water, sunscreen etc. for our area is a must until we get out of this heatwave. Plan on lots of freeway traffic if you aren't staying near the parks. Depending on which airport you are coming into the freeways could be jammed with locals heading to the beaches, up north, south to San Diego or out to Vegas. Have a great time whatever you decide. I have not seen Carsland yet and am excited to go later in the year when it is cooler. I hear it is amazing and the videos on Youtube don't disappoint either.

I can't believe that we are flying to LA in 15 days and going on this cruise in 16 days. I can't believe betwen now and then I have to move. I can't believe I am taking my kids to Disneyland and Carsland in 23 days. I can't believe John Lasseter is going to be on our cruise! So, so, so psyched for this cruise!

Meet up - Check; Pub Crawl - check (don't think my mom will be joining us on that one!); Cabin Crawl - check!

Does anyone have an aft balcony or the Roy or Walt Disney suite? Those are some rooms we didn't get to see our last cruise/CC. Of course, we are VGT, so who knows, maybe we'll get pixie-dusted and upgraded to one of these :rotfl2:

On the WBTA someone in our cabin crawl had the concierge suite, which was really great to see, and they had a fruit and cookie tray delivered and we kind of had a reception there at the end of the CC. We also had a Disboarder who was in the Roy Disney suite, but unfortunately they backed out of the cabin crawl and a lot of the Disboards activities because shortly before the cruise they suffered a miscarriage - very sad :(

Sooooo close!

I'm Officially all finished making my fish exchange gifts. We are excited to go on our very first Disney cruise! My son and his girlfriend are looking forward to the FE. I want to thank everyone ahead of time who are doing the FE to make the cruise even more magical for the kids.

I am so excited to see him! Heard him speak at the Disney Expo in 2009 and he is so down to earth! We lucked out!!!

For those of you that live in or around SF or SD, how far from where we dock to the nearest Disney Store? I live in Chatham On Canada and our nearest store is 2.5 hours unless I go to Michigan and then about 2 hours? Would be nice to see if possible
