*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

OK.....for those of you who a while back recommended some authors/books for me to read on the cruise.....I picked The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly. I have been very good and not read all the books recommended (quite a few BUT not all!) to me. I hope it's a good one and thanks for all your suggestions! Now, if I can just leave the book alone for 9 days til we leave and not try to read it. Put. the. book. down. NOW! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Speaking of jetlag...We've never travel overseas before...so I'm wondering what the 7 or 8 hr time difference from here in the Midwest is going to feel like...when we land in Barcelona Thursday morning at 9:15...our bodies are going to be saying its only 2 AM...LOL!!! Any of you experienced long distance travelers have any advice????

I think most everyone has covered this. I will agree with the ones that say stay up as late as you can. At least 8pm or so. That will help. Try and sleep as much as you can on the plane. I know it will be hard. When I flew to Israel I got only maybe a total of 2 hours of sleep on the plane. People would get quiet so i would try to sleep and they would wake up and make noise and so I would wake and on went. I hit the hay around 9pm. Slept through the night and had no problems with jetlag the rest of the trip.

As to getting the Jetlag back as you travel back I basically would stay up the extra hour each night that they turn the clocks back (you will have notes left in your stateroom). So if you go to bed usually at 10pm, stay up until 11pm and then change your clock back. That should help with that. That is what my husband and I did on the EBTA and had no problem with jetlag.

Hopefully my FM won't affect my jetlag too much since I tend to be wiped out if I don't get a full nights sleep each night. I won't worry about it though because we have 14 days on a cruise ship to get over it.:woohoo:

Liesbeth i will save you one and give to you at dinner ;);)

We have a few spares so if anyone would like a little Pooh bag of candy popped in their FE then just let me know your room # :))

Until they run out anyways :lmao:

Annemarie

Thank you, thank you. I would love it.

And Karen, I will share it with you as Hazelandannie hasn't got any left over for you.

For all those not feeling so well ... feel better soon :wizard:

Aww, this made me sad too that I didn't join with the candy swap. I would love to at least see what it is, as I love Pooh :lovestruc just as my DISname says. Disney used to sell little chocolate honeypots filled with caramel (ala caramello) that I always bought. I would love to see the store and of course The Woods.

Get your dancing feet on everyone and come and join us as today it is time to boogie on down ....

we are officially ....

SINGLE DIGIT DANCING !!!!!

I dance with you Claire

I would like to echo this statement. Since we booked this cruise (only at the end of June!) we have both had so much fun gettin to know everyone day by day and you have all been so helpful with odd questions from us first time cruisers.

It is actually a little sad that this part of the pre cruise is coming to an end as people now start to make their way towards Spain in various ways. Because this part for us has been made as good as I hope the actual cruise will be when we finally get to meet all of you.

I don't know what we will do with our time after the cruise with no chatting :confused3.

Think I'm feeling a bit sentimental today :lmao:

I totaly agree with you. I felt the same today. We leave in one week now, so I am on the board and FB till then.
For everone who is going to travel, save trips and enjoy your precruise vacations. See you all in Barcelona or on the ship.

Jacqueline I totally understand! I would be avoiding it like the plague too.

I hope you are getting better and enjoying planning your next trip, is is still likely to be December? When we get back from the cruise you can come and make us all jealous with your fabulous plans. :)

Take care & we will raise a glass to you at the Deck 10 Sailaway party.

Here too Jacqueline. Hope you getting better and can make you trip in december in good condition. I am sorry that I not getting to know you in real, but who knows we met someday in the Netherlands

We finally have one 6648.. Have no idea if that's good or bad - don't care! See you'll soon! Jean:yay:

We are just in the oposite of you on backboard in room 6146. But I don't think we have a corridor on the aft. It is a verrandah with a white board.
I am pleased with it.

oh forgot to say - i wont be able to do a door magnet with my dis name as i've used up all the magnetic paper. but mine's the door with a lot of stitch on it, on the front part of deck 5

Karen I take magnetic tape with me. So you can get some if you print your name on thicker paper, you can make a magnet with it. I am in cabin 6146. What a great feeling to tell in which cabin we are.

A question for my American friends, especially anyone in Orlando.

How easy are white iPad 2's to get hold off in the Apple stores? Are they readily available or are they still selling out as soon as a batch comes in?

Hubby has finally caved in and said I can get one. :cool1: I am hoping to go straight to the Mall when we get off the ship, shame I can't have it for the two weeks on the ship but never mind i'll have to wait!

Do you necessarily want a white one? The black is the same. The coloured covers I like, that make the difference. I have the iPad 1 and had no choice. And with the Apple cover that I have you see nearly nothing of the edge. So if you can buy one in Orlando i shall do it, no mather if it's white or black.

Claire, Double check with your store that sells them there as far as charging it. Reason being, my friend who lives in London came to visit and forgot his charger. When he went to the Apple srore here they told him that the prongs inside the Iphone which is what he had were a little different from the ones sold in Europe and if he got a US charger it might damage his phone. I do not know if it makes any difference with the Ipad, all I am saying, ask before you leave home. Just make sure your Europen charger works the same as US as far as internal prongs. I would not want anything to happen after you go home. I hope I am making it clear what I am trying to say.

Evelyn

Thanks for all the info on traveling from Madrid to Barcelona. I have another question.. Has anyone ever rented a car and drove from Madrid to Barcelona? How long of a drive is that? I'm thinking that might be a fun way to go. I can take my time and see some sights....

have just heard that DCL have decided not to implement the new alcohol policy on the 19th after all. it may change again in the future but apparently they've put it on hold for the time being

Not from the US but. Have you thought of ordering it online through something like Walmart, they deliver it to the store of your choice and you have 21 days to collect.

Norman

Hadn't thought of doing that! Thanks. :thumbsup2

I will get a black one if I can;t get a white one but i'd prefer white. :)

iPad availability is not a problem anymore. You should have no issue getting the one you want.

Good to know. :thumbsup2

First time i've heard that? My friend has one she bought in the US and has no problem with it but i'll double check. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone.

Claire, If your friend got one and has not had any problems then it should be fine. This was a couple of years ago and it was the IPhone, that could have been the difference. I say" Girl, as soon as your feet hit dry land, run do not walk to the mall" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

The connector to the device is standard. The only difference is the wall plug. I used my bros US chargers with no issues.

What is Everyone wearing on Embark day? The shirts you designed or something else?

Just wondering:-)

. . .
I don't know what we will do with our time after the cruise with no chatting :confused3.

Some of these cruise threads live forever if the group gets especially close - you can see them on the board 'live' even 2 or 3 years later.

This made me relax a bit on your behalf! Whew! It will be nice to all fly together as one big happy. :thumbsup2

Am feeling exactly the same. I'm a little torn as various folks are "signing off" and will miss terribly the chatting and catching up next week as I can't even check the boards past early Wed morn.

On the bright side, if we miss the electronic versions of each other, how much BETTER will real life -- on a ship -- be!!! :dance3:
And remember - there's still the facebook thread - and people with computers can be wired from their hotels on the road.

. .. Although I am a bit worried about the picking something up on the plane, when we go to Florida alaways seem to pick up something, but it's only a short two hour flight, maybe I can hold my breath :rotfl2::rotfl2:

. . .
Airbourne! And drink lots of water.

Yes I echo that, even though I've not posted much, I feel like I know people already. It seems a really strange concept to speak and meet people before you take the holiday :cool1::cool1: but I have to say it's a really nice one. And being first timers, when we board the magic, we will be armed with so much information that we won't have to waste precious time finding out:worship::worship: so thank you to everyone for making this a real family experience.

And however and whenever your trip to the magic starts, I hope it's enjoyable. we will be one of the few leaving home the morning of the cruise, it will seem really strange if the dis board goes quiet leading up to the cruise, but I know people will be off having fun :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

No clothes claire but booze :rotfl2::rotfl2: I take it you won't be going to morrisons with the rest of us then :rotfl2::rotfl2:

So what normally happens to a thread after a cruise ?

margaret
It could go On and on and on . . .

The moment has arrived; the first of you are starting to begin travelling and everybody has started packing. Or should really, really start doing that! ;)

All have a safe trip above all. For those not used to it; have fun with the jetlag. ;) And then; let the fun begin! Please let's keep the Magic in one piece so those of us that want to have any hope of enjoying her on a later date can continue to hope and daydream. Enjoy folks, have a blast!!!!!! :goodvibes

Had some questions, so reckoned I'ld explain a wee bit in public. Haven't been much on here. Don't have that much time to DIS yet but when I do I've found myself avoiding this thread. Has nothing to do with any of you on here, or at least not in a negative view. Reading on here, getting so close to the 10th and reading all the excitement and plans going on........ I've found it to be counterproductive for me. Like rubbing it in what I'll be missing, realising that I will not get to meet some amazing people IRL after spending so much time together etc. It only gets me down and dwelling over something that simply isn't ment to be for now. So I avoided the thread. Don't get me wrong; I am truely happy for all of you and will be reading up on trip reports and enjoy them! It's just that for now it's bittersweet timing and I refuse to give into the darn-I-should've-been-packing-now-sorrow. The sooner we get the 10th over with, the better if you ask me! ;) And probably a lot of you too. :rotfl2:

Enjoy folks! Enjoy eachother, all of the special moments that will be celebrated on board, all of the fun before and after the trip and the simple but oh so precious time "just being" with loved ones. :goodvibes

Jacquiline, you'd have been a candidate for sainthood if you would have stayed 'live' on this thread after having to drop off the cruise. We've missed you, of course, and will miss you on the ship, but seriously - why torture yourself? GET WELL! Then we can meet again on some cruise in the future.

I heard one should get up an hour earlier every day for several days before the flight. If I was home, I could do that no problem, but in somebody elses house? I don't think so!

My friend has it planned for next spring only from Barca to Madrid - it's about 600 Kilometers, motorway all the way. So figure 6 - 7 hours driving time.

As much as I don't want to get off the ship....I will be running to the Mall! :lmao:

Dan

Thanks Dan. :thumbsup2 We have a gazillion iPod & iPhone chargers so i'm not worried about the wall plug, plus it will be handy to have a US one anyway.

I just want it now!!!! :lmao:

Hi Claire,

Would you like me to see if I can find one here and have you paypal me the money and I will bring to you on the cruise? Let me know.

Nickole

Thanks Nickole that is such a kind offer but I wouldn't want to trouble anyone as you would need to carry it as hand luggage.

I can wait....just impatiently! :lmao:

We got our room today!!! YEA!!!!! It's 6608. Looks like they saved that side of the ship for all us VGT. I feel so much better now....don't know why, but I do.

Kathy

Hi guys,

I'm sorry that I'm not around much, but I'm super busy right now and you guys write a lot :worship: so it’s hard to keep up.

I have updated all the room numbers for the candy swap (except for Kthomas618 who is still waiting for their room number)

Could you please check the information in the Google group to make sure I got all your information correct?

If I made a mistake (or more:confused3) could you please PM me with the correct information?

Christina

They really don't weigh much, I have an IPad2 in white I might add :lmao::lmao: and it is not heavy. You might want to re-think her offer....

I have to take a case that fits DD homework in it and some other items. Pluse I am in first class so no restrictions on weight or anything. I have lots of room. Let me know if you change your mind.
