*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

hope everyone who's ill gets well soon. gary still has the remnants of the dreaded man flu so i know what you're all going through!

so glad that pretty much everyone now has their room assignments, its made it sooooo much easier for us event organisers who now dont have to worry about trying to catch up with everyones assignments once on board!

i've still got ten days left, so not quite single digit dancing yet, but will be tomorrow. thats the problem with flying out the day of i guess, i have to wait one more day before dancing!

i've updated the secret mickey list on page one with people's room numbers, could you all check it to make sure its right, PM me if its not! i've also asked this over on the FB page, and asked people to post replies to make sure they're right, but i dont really need 33 PMs on here with "ok", so i'll just leave that part to FB!

Gooad Morning, Happy Cruisers!

By this time next week, we'll be in Barcelona :)

Just enough time to catch up on all the pages before I say goodbye for the moment and will see you all on board the Magic.:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I managed to get the packing down to 1 case and 1 carry-on, so not allowed to buy anything on this holiday unless I can convince Dad that can fit in his suitcase:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

See you all real soon......

Burnice

Safe Journey, Burnice!

And that family is at least 214 strong, based on Noel's lanyard count.

You're THERE! Where are you, Lynne?

Happy Day, all!

So glad to hear that you are all getting your room assignments. One more thing to breath easy about. Now if Katia will just stay out to sea until at least the end of next week that would be even better.

Ok for anyone that has taken the Renfe train can you help me with something? I want to make sure that I am understanding this one correctly. The site is in English unless you want to book and then it goes to Spanish.:confused3 Go fig. My question is that what the heck is the difference in the categories?? We figured out that the cheapest rate is if you just want a seat and not a bed and all the rest have beds. What is the difference between Cama turista and cama preferen doble familiar and the G Class? Sorry. I've never traveled by train so I am not sure what would be best to book. There are 4 adults and 1 3yr old.

I think the cama tourista is a t-4 configuration on that train. There will be 2 sets of bunks in that cabin, there may be a sink. Bathroom is at the end of the car. Cama preferen doble is one set of bunks (so sleep for 2) in a narrow cabin with a sink. The G class is grand class - a set of bunks plus your own bathroom and shower. This class includes a 4 course dinner and breakfast on this train. If you spring for grand class, go to dinner immediately (1st seating) after you board. We got 2 grand class cabins (there were 4 of us) and barely fit our luggage (we each had one 26" duffle plus one carry on each.) If you can, get a cabin rather than open seating so you will have somewhere to store and lock your luggage. Otherwise, luggage is stored on luggage racks. You bring your own luggage on to the train with you. You don't check it like on a plane. Pack earplugs and sleep mask. :goodvibes

:disrocks: I just wanted to say before everyone leaves off for their various trips to get to the Magic......THANK YOU!!! You have all been a big help to me in getting ready for this trip. It has been a bit of a whirlwind, especially at the end with all of the changing of the flights but hopefully we are good to go to Paris and the train ride will be uneventful. I hope I have been even half as helpful as you guys have been to me. I am praying for safe travels for everyone in getting to the Magic and I look forward to seeing you all on board next week Saturday. If I can swing a connection in Cinncinati I will update you if we make it on our flight. :goodvibes

You da man!! :thumbsup2 Thanks! :) Get some good shut-eye on that flight! I will be interested in hearing the 7-hour-layover-sightseeing story on the ship!

I literally just finished getting Curt an airline ticket. Standby numbers were increasing, and he was starting to stress (and watching that hurricane as well), so we cashed in 60k AA miles (and an extra $75 fee). So... I now will have my hubby with us on all flights, and actually seated with us as well! No more hitch-hiking this trip for him to get to the cruise. :)

Mandy - great to hear that you got Curt on the flight with you. Now we all continue to hold our collective breath that everyone from the US gets out on time. Pixie dust, everyone! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

The maps this AM show some tropical system forming in the Gulf of Mexico and moving across FL and up the East coast later this weekend and into next week. I tell you, I think people are screwing with me! At least it looks like TX may finally get some rain, though!

Glad Curt has a confirmed seat... I am starting to stress! All this weather is sure hurting my standby plans!

Yeah, I can't imagine trying to make a cruise on time through standby. I'm sure that's a big relief.

Looking back, the only thing I should have booked differently was our connection at DFW this time. We have a 55 min connection. I guess Skylink makes it easy to get across it now. We fly out of Terminal D, but I don't know where we'll come in yet. Years ago (last time I was at DFW) we didn't have Skylink as an option and I remember having to rush across the airport.

I saw that you got to enjoy some nice weather in Kansas this past week. Now we're back up into the 100s again here. If you guys in Texas could just cool down and stop sending your heat our way, we'd be very glad to end this summer!

Standby is getting stressful this time around for sure!

Looks like we will get some relief here in Texas next week... After I am gone! Hoping for some nice cool days on the cruise... cool = less than 100 degrees!

:worship: I have packed one case and so far no clothes......don't know what i'm going to end up bringing - maybe 4 case? Lol.

Have a safe flight(s) Burnice! :goodvibes

When I read this, I thought, there aren't mirrors ABOVE the bed - this is not that kind of ship. Then I realized you meant on the wall.

:rotfl2: Me too!

Wow - one big happy family!

Safe travels....see you on the ship!

This has been an interesting experience for us GTY and location wise. This is the first time we will be on a deck with "stuff" and not just rooms. Any experience with the noise level here? Also we usually have better luck with upgrades in GTY than this time, but that is the risk and we still have a balcony, so worth it.

We've stayed on deck 5 twice and love it! We chose the same room we've had before in the aft section. We've never had a problem with noise. I like it because the hallways are short and not the endless parade of rooms like on 6 and 7. I always get turned around on those two decks.

Room Assigned!!!!

Tojam will be in room 6012....so the website says!

Have been so busy with investigations I have not had a chance to read posts since Monday evening. Hope other GTY's got their assignments too! We are geeked as we wanted one large porthole window over the two smaller ones. PIXIED!!!!

Will catch up later.....gotta go get a bad guy to confess.

I would like to echo this statement. Since we booked this cruise (only at the end of June!) we have both had so much fun gettin to know everyone day by day and you have all been so helpful with odd questions from us first time cruisers.

It is actually a little sad that this part of the pre cruise is coming to an end as people now start to make their way towards Spain in various ways. Because this part for us has been made as good as I hope the actual cruise will be when we finally get to meet all of you.

I don't know what we will do with our time after the cruise with no chatting :confused3.

Think I'm feeling a bit sentimental today :lmao:

I for one am hoping this thread will continue after the cruise so will can all stay in touch. :)

come on claire, you're really not helping yourself with the no-clothes ribbing are you?!?!

:rotfl2: No I suppose i'm not!!! I've packed my booze though. :teeth:

Yay for all the room assignments! Hope everyone got what they wanted.

I am lucky to have today and tomorrow of work so I can start getting ready. Yesterday I was off too and did tons of laundry. :laundry: Today I'm working on FE and finalizing everything we need to purchase. Plane doesn't leave till Sunday at 6:45 PM and we won't have to leave our house until 2:30 PM, so that gives me a bunch of time to get ready this weekend too. Can't believe it's so close!

Hi all,

I've come down with a cold and have been feeling horrible for several days and haven't been on much. I guess it means that if I'm sick now, I won't be on the trip.

We leave on Sunday....and I've not packed one darned thing nor have I run all the errands I need to run. Hope to do some tonight and then get to bed early again.

Take care all,

Keri
Get better Keri! And let me know if you want to meet up in DLP :goodvibes

I am fighting a sore throat. Taking lots of Vit. C. Seems to be working so far.:yay::yay:
Feel better!

Looks like I may have to fly into Madrid. Does anyone have any suggestions getting to Barcelona from there? Thinking maybe a train as I will have several pieces of luggage. Any suggestions would be appreciated... Or possibly flights if not too hard on luggage allowances..lol

Jill, someone told me the other day that Iberia has multiple frequent flights a day between MAD and BCN - sort of the equivalent of the US Airways Shuttle btw NY and DC. Not sure of cost or anything, that was just mentioned.

Yes - the KC weather was perfect! It was a nice 48-hour reprieve. This heat is ridiculous. I used to sit out on the front porch and share wine with my nextdoor neighbor in the evenings while Curt is working, but it's been too hot to even do that!

The good thing about your connection is not only Skylink, but the gate agents know the connecting passengers. At least at Southwest, it has been known to hold a plane for connecting passengers, especially if it is a last flight or something like that. Terminal D is nice though, not that you will have to kill any time there. When deplaning, or slightly before, let the Flight Attendants know you are making a quick international connection, and if they can let Ops phone your next gate that you are bookin' it over there. They will probably know, but the extra phone call always helps IMHO.

Hi All,

Seems they did the GTYs. I sent an email last night asking specifically about our room. We are in 5142. It is a slight upgrade, I think based on category, since we paid for a 7A and are now in a 6A--not a completely closed balcony, but a metal one, which is fine--close to the back of the ship.

This has been an interesting experience for us GTY and location wise. This is the first time we will be on a deck with "stuff" and not just rooms. Any experience with the noise level here? Also we usually have better luck with upgrades in GTY than this time, but that is the risk and we still have a balcony, so worth it.

The movers are coming today to pack our stuff up to ship back to America. Going to be a long 2-3 days. We will now be living in an empty house for the next week and out of suitcases! Let's hope that not as much stuff is damaged going back as it was coming over!

Glad to have my room before we leave so I can update the list.

Amanda

Good luck this week with all the move stuff going on! No fun living out of suitcases, but at least you have something to look forward to with the transport home! :)

Mandy - great to hear that you got Curt on the flight with you. Now we all continue to hold our collective breath that everyone from the US gets out on time. Pixie dust, everyone! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I am going to hack into your computer so that you can not read any more weather websites!!! We definitely need the rain here though, especially with the fires popping up west of Fort Worth again. I really will feel better when we are in Barcelona so that I know we are AT the embarkation port! :thumbsup2

Glad Curt has a confirmed seat... I am starting to stress! All this weather is sure hurting my standby plans!

Standby is getting stressful this time around for sure!

Looks like we will get some relief here in Texas next week... After I am gone! Hoping for some nice cool days on the cruise... cool = less than 100 degrees!

Standby was starting to stress him. He had a friend look up the Delta flight, and coach is overbooked by 20. Then the AA flight was also having more standbys than seats - a full week out. He came home last night at 11:00 and said he almost booked JFK-BCN on "mystery airline" for about $500 (which was now $650 when he got home), and then I told him I had gotten that extra 75k AA miles for some credit card offer, let's look at that... so we were able to book DFW-JFK / stopover / JFK-BCN for the 60k miles. Hated spending those miles (yes, I already had plans...) but now we can enjoy the trip and not stress. Had he missed standby, we figured NYC could get expensive in a hurry. At least now he doesn't have to dress up to try to jumpseat on either flight. And on the long flight, I can go have a FAB with Pat a few rows up and let Curt watch the girls. :cool1:

Room Assigned!!!!

Yay for your room!! And hope the morning went well getting the bad guy to confess!! :thumbsup2 Thank you for what you do in your line of work! :worship:

Ditto! I would have had zero clue about this cruise prior to finding DISboards!! :lovestruc

Shall we designate floor 2 as the fun floor? Hades Underworld haha :worship:

Yep!! And hopefully if we DO get into rocky waves, being lower down will help those of us prone to seasickness. I have never ben this low before!

hope everyone who's ill gets well soon. gary still has the remnants of the dreaded man flu so i know what you're all going through!

I hope Gary feels better soon!! Get those sickies out of our systems!

We had looked at that plan as well - and had seen the Iberia flights being rather frequent. Backup plan could be the train.

I literally just finished getting Curt an airline ticket. :)

This made me relax a bit on your behalf! Whew! It will be nice to all fly together as one big happy. :thumbsup2

Am feeling exactly the same. I'm a little torn as various folks are "signing off" and will miss terribly the chatting and catching up next week as I can't even check the boards past early Wed morn.

On the bright side, if we miss the electronic versions of each other, how much BETTER will real life -- on a ship -- be!!! :dance3:
