*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

I'm a bit frustrated this morning.

I can't get onto the Disney site to check my childcare availability, since we changed the date for Champagne Girls. Has anyone else had trouble getting on it today?

So with the changes, it means we'll have Group 1 Palo Brunch, then the Pub Crawl, the Champagne Girls. Depending on childcare for our 2 year old, I'll probably have to skip the Pub Crawl (but Steve will go), but I'm really hoping I don't have to skip CG too.

I'm definately expecting the mojito/mixology classes to land on the same day - but I'm reluctant to change anything til I know the dates!

Planners, please don't think I'm moaning at you - you've all done a brilliant job! It's just hard figuring out how to do it all when it's landed on the same day.

So come on Disney site... LET ME IN! :headache:

This is the time they do their site maintenance. I usually find I can't get in for a few hours in the morning our time. Annoying for us, but it is night time over there so the best time for them. Of course they might continue and have a problem. For some reason Disney have useless web sites.

The Dis does its maintenance around 8am to 8.30am (ish) our time and it is always the time I want to come on first thing. Again ok for the US.:headache:

I better check all my candy swap info again too. Do you just put pieces of candy loose in the FEs or do you bag and tag them with who they are from? I have about 50 candy swappers, so if that is the case I better get started!!!

I have bagged & tagged my Candy for the Candy Swap. :)

You are so right, I have a friend who is a pilot and he said they were told not to wear bright colored clothes, you really stand out like an American tourist. People in Europe as a rule don't wear bright clothes during their daily routines.

I've not been to Barcelona (yet) but have been to other areas in Spain, Italy, France & obviously the UK and we definitely DO wear bright clothes! :goodvibes

Just came across this on another thread; it was posted by yesterday someone who is on the Dream and they are talking about CC:

I am writing this from Olive's Restaurant in Nassau, on the Dream doing a back to back (this is the 2nd one.)

I was told by several staff at guest services that the damage is heavy and bulldozers are being sent in. A full team is en route today. They told me CC would be out of commission for at least a few cruises. Reported roofs blown off and water in Cookies II.

:guilty: How sad! I hope they get it sorted asap, for other cruisers as well as us. :wizard:

For those of you familiar with British Airways, how strict are they on luggage (carry-on) dimensions? My planned bag is 2-3 inches too "tall"

Thank you!!

If your bag is flexible and can be squashed down that extra 2-3" then i'm sure you'll be ok but if it is a hard sided case then I would not risk it as BA can be fairly strict.

I'm sorry Sarah - I thought we were talking about the 13th? So is CG the 15th then? I'm so lost!

Apologies for being confusing, everyone! I can't keep up.

Have you been able to get onto the Disney site for babysitting? I was thinking I'd just have to leave it til we got onboard to make any changes, but I've not done my online check-in yet and I can't get in!

Dawn, the Champagne Girls is on the 15th, which is the same day as the Pub Crawl.

I hope you manage to get on DCL's site soon, it's frustrating when you can't get on but maintenance time seems to be the middle of the night for the US but obviously that is inconvenient for us this side of the pond.

That will e such a shame if we don't get to go there. This is our first cruise so was looking forward to seeing it. Just hope all the staff there have kept safe and fingers crossed for some pixie dust to be sprinkled on CC in the coming weeks

That counts for us too. On our first cruise and not going to CC would be a shame. But let's hope that all went well and no people harmed.
I hope that all stay safe the next couple of hours, when Irene is heading to the north. I understand that she is not so strong anymore, but it is still very dangerous.

:sad2::sad2: Have been watching the news coverage this morning and just hoping everyone affected stays safe. For all mans technical wizardry mother nature likes to remind us who's in charge !!!

It would be too bad not to get there, but we sure can't control Mother Nature.
We are north of Hartford, CT, awaiting the hurricane/TS. The wind is getting stronger, and the rain is falling at an incredible rate.
And so, with 1 week til we leave Boston, we have something far more exciting (not in a positive manner) to deal with. If I have power later, I'll check in. Hope everyone along the East coast is safe!!! Caroline

Glad to see you post, Caro! Looks like you've been right in the crosshairs for a while. It rained hard here, off and on all night but when I got up at 5, it was out of the north, steady at 14 mph. at 6, it started to flare up and now we're haing gusts to 45 mph. Lots of small stuff fallen, local reports have trees and wires down in some places - and we're not anywhere near the peak yet. Stay safe everyone!

I like the idea of the DCL reception, as well.. :thumbsup2

I attended exactly this on the ebta in May, sponsored by DVC - just an "extra" they decided to throw in.....

It was held in Diversions, so a bit different, but Sessions has those wonderful squishy chairs so will be even better!! Plenty of room to mingle as well.

The servers circulated the whole time with trays of champagne and it was abundant, so you could drink as little (or as much :woohoo:) as you cared to.
The champagne was a sparkling "house wine."

The good thing about this, was you did not request a formal tasting - they have their own every day & really would have offered the last day, so I think this was the perfect choice, thanks again, Claire!!

Tonight I was going through the pocket of every shirt, suit jacket and jacket in my husband's closet looking for his passport, which he has apparently lost. The only suit jacket my husband has in one he bought when we first started dating, and brought with him on our first cruise together in December 1999. And apparently that was the last time he wore it because I found receipts from our Celebrity cruise in his pocket!! :rotfl: Brings back great memories!

I hope you find his passport... you'll miss him if you don't! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for answers. I'll go with tojam's "resort casual" approach. There's no way I can hide the "American tourist" cuz the second I open my mouth nuthin' but Texas drawl comes out!

I hear ya on the Texas drawl... When I am in Europe someone always asked... "are you from Texas"? :confused3

.

Sounds good .... is there seating on deck 7 aft .... I have never been there but if there is it sounds like a good place to meet !!
There are lounge chairs there. But as someone said.. it does close at 7PM

:thumbsup2 What a fab way to start the day! We've booked that too, i'm looking forward to a mud fight. :lmao:

We have booked it as well. I would like to modify the time, but it looks like LOTS of folks have booked this treatment :rotfl2: and it's hard to coordinate with available nursery time and remaining treatment slots.

since gary has man flu and is still stuck up in glasgow, i've been catching up on some holiday stuff.
finished printing all the confirmations i need, batched up and sorted out the candy for my candy swap, printed off SM lists, FE lists, airport transfer lists, candy swap lists, sorted out my trading pins to take. been a busy day so far....

for all the pin traders, i'm about to post on the WBTA pin trading thread with all my current traders.
i've put the ones that have been reserved aside, so these are my extra traders (there are duplicates of those that have already been reserved, so dont worry if you see one you've already got dibbs on!)
also i'll see how i get on with bumping into people, but i may just put the reserved pins into people's FEs if i cant track you down.

Dining nights
Mary (Tod and Copper) has had this confirmed by DCL

I've just been speaking to DCL so asked while I was on. She couldn't give me the menu/dining themes for the evening yet, but she did confirm the undernoted:-

Night 2 - Formal Night (Sea Day)
Night 6 - Theme Night TBC (Sea Day)
Night 7 - Formal Night (Sea Day)
Night 11 - Pirate Night (St Maarten)
Night 13 - Semi-Formal (Sea Day)

DCL told me recently that the second formal night was Night 8, not Night 7. Has anyone else heard which is actually correct?

I am hoping everyone on the East coast is doing well today. :grouphug:

We have had a couple interesting weeks between passing around a stomach bug and DH attempting to pass a kidney stone. The hospital had to intervene with the stone. I could not imagine going through all that during a hurricane... or in the middle of the Atlantic on a cruise! So right now, I am very thankful we are far from the East coast and that we had this stuff hit us NOW and not on the cruise.

Curt still wanted to go see his parents in Kansas this weekend, so we hopped a flight to visit them a couple nights.Sarah is getting to celebrate her birthday a week early with this set of grandparents. I am half tempted to take them all to the Disney Store here...

My mind is thinking of everything I need to get done back home... finish FE, finish making some shirts for little ones, and start packing Curt's stuff (plus finish the girls and I). We leave at 7AM a week from tomorrow! :scared1: And of course our first three days are in NYC about 0.3 mile from Times Square in walking distance.

To catch up on DIS:

- I sent a PM to everyone on our Jost VanDyke excursion just to get confirmation and gather a list of cabin numbers. All 74 of us. :) Over half have replied. :thumbsup2

- Pub Crawl: I have two hours of nursery time, have never done a Pub Crawl, so teach me well!! :cheer2: Curt will be accompanying me.

- Champagne Girls: Why is it I never acquired a taste for champagne? The most I can do is champagne mixed with cranberry juice, so I didn't sign up. I will love peeking in on everyone and their wonderful pink boas!

- Palo Brunch #1: Looking forward to our group!! :yay:

- Dress in Barcelona: I am so not the smart dresser, but I will probably try to wear something other than a tshirt (which means dressing up for me!).

- Texas drawl: Yep - got that too. Texan Proud!! And speaking of which, a few more days and we will set a new record for 100+ degree days. Guess I should be glad to be in Kansas right now where it is a little cooler.

- Princess Tea: I am looking forward to that! Love our Fairy Godmother!! princess: And my mom hemmed the Cinderella dress while we were at the hospital Friday.

I am sooooo ready for that sailaway drink!! Those start at embarkation, right??

Question:
Curt thinks we just need to get Euros at the airport in Barcelona. I see many of you are pre-purchasing here in the US. Advice?

i'm the same as you mandy, i can't stand the taste of wine and champagne, but will join you in looking through the door!

Whatever is easiest for you - the old lady just felt better having them in hand. The LESS I have to stress over at the last minute, the better!

hope you have a nice, quiet, HEALTHY, upcoming week, Mandy!

kisann, this is the magnet that lynne made for you, i've just printed it off for you, did you want me to drop it on your door first or just set it loose on the ship and it'll get back to you by the end?

Stay safe everyone on the East Coast!

Mandy, I hope Curt is feeling better asap.

That is what I plan on doing Karen, if I know someone is going to an event then i'll take their pin with me but if not then i'll pop them in the FE's towards the end of the cruise. :thumbsup2

I hope Gary is feeling better soon.

We've just been out clothes shopping for Lee as we went through all his clothes yesterday & decided he need a few more things, I think he is done now so i'll start to pack soon. I'm dreading it though as we have so much stuff!!!!!

Karen, don't laugh, but I can't do beer either. Now anything with Malibu and I'm game! I'm a mixed (and/or frozen) drink type of gal. :thumbsup2

Thank you, Linda! I'm never one to be sick, so I am glad that is done with. That hit last weekend. Super glad we went ahead and took care of that stone, too.
