*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

This is Poppy last year the night before we went away. I think she took the " if you're going, then i'm coming too approach!"
That pic is adorable! Thanks for sharing.

Hey everyone! I'm not even going to try to catch up right now - page 25 - WOW!!! We had to go up to Kiev and we just got back, had a busy week of work for DH Ken and Morgan and I got to relax a bit. It is going to be very hard to get back to "real life" now for 2 weeks before the cruise.
Welcome back! Not much longer now :goodvibes

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Well just back from a quick drive up the motorway, DS passed his driving test. Another tick on my list great.... now to trackle motorway drive to London and the M25 and do some night driving..... but of couse now he knows it all :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Congrats to DS! :thumbsup2

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:
We could always do a flash mob dance using the wave phones.
I youtubed flash mob after I saw that commercial and there's tons of these things. It's so neat.

For any who have stayed at Le Meridien in Barca: do they have any US style plugs or should I bring converters?

Side note: lucky! The Le Meridien looks like a beautiful hotel but DCL wanted like $699 a night too book it. We're at the AC Diplomatic instead. ;)

Congrats and well done to your son for passing his test. My son is hoping to start driving lessons next year so we have all that stress to come :scared1:

Thank you for the reassurances. I am worried because she is flying to Seattle on 1st and I was wondering if the hurricane would still be lingering around I can book her via Philadephia or via Los Angeles and I think Los Angeles may be the less affected route. Any advice ?

Sarah, the hurricane will be long gone from the Northeast by September 1st. But, I think LA will still be the better route.

A quick update on the tastings.

I have just had an email from DCL we are short for the Mojito Group 2 so either a shuffle round or we have to drop the group altogether. There are 9 and we need a min of 25.
Obviously the dates/days might not suit everyone!!! :guilty:
No confirmation on the dates for the other 3 yet.
How about splitting the two groups equally, so there are still some openings in each. That way, if one of the days/times interferes with anything (such as Palo or a children's activity), there is flexibility to move to the other group. Just an idea....

I thought of that, too. That way we could still have two groups. Our rooms are being charged whether we show up or not. I like your idea.:thumbsup2

Has anyone heard if Castaway Cay was hit? I saw some footage on the BBC news that said the Bahamas was getting battered but it didn't say where/what islands? :confused3

\QUOTE]
Yes. The hurricane force winds went right over it but of course I haven't heard if there was any major damage. I am waiting to see if anyone posts that is on the dream right now.

She will be completely fine by the first to fly out in fact she would have no problem from here flying out today since it has been a beautiful sunny day today. I don't know anything about either of those airports so I will leave it to those who have already commented.

BTW Beauty, Thanks so much for those Madrid pictures and the train info. I have showed my DH which makes him want to look around. He was all for getting off the flight and heading straight to Barcelona. I will show this to our friends this weekend so we can decide what is the best to do.

I would not depend on the hair dryers unless you have short fine hair! They are very weak.... I always take my own and my hair usually dries very fast....

For once, it's an advantage to have hair like mine! Have to admit, though, even with my short, fine hair, the hair dryer left something to be desired. But packing my own would mean one less pair of shoes I can take. So I'll make do with what they have.

For any who have stayed at Le Meridien in Barca: do they have any US style plugs or should I bring converters?

You will need a European convertor in Barcelona. :thumbsup2

Clarification, please. "Converter" means one of those gadgets that changes 110 to 220 (or whatever - I can never remember who has what), and "adapter" means the thing that makes the prongs fit the outlet, and I'll need both to plug in any of my US-made gear in Barca, right?

I have a converter and an adapter for European outlets, b/c I know I'll have to charge something, even though we're only in Barca for 2 days.

About dresses, I am undecided on one of my formals and my semiformal. I know one formal for sure - its a yellow/gold colored cocktail dress that is almost the exact hue of Belle's dress. I think if Joe wears a blue jacket on formal night it would be great for photos w/ Belle and Beast! ...

That will make a great twin set photo - we'll think we are seeing double. (Although you'll need a brown wig).

That might be a good idea Noel :thumbsup2

Well I agree with Jessicamom how about dividing the two groups. We wouldn't mind doing that.

Think I am going to order our Euros this afternoon - I am thinking that €200 should be enough for miscellaneous things that we can not put on a credit card. Current rate through B of A is showing $1.5195.
Jeremy that is what we paid at Wells Fargo.

I've got lists of all the victims of the Sep 11 attacks. Wondered if we could split up the list and have individuals read the names (first only would be okay) simultaneously. For the World Trade center, I've got 13 pages with 3 columns - that could be 39 people. Then there are the 4 planes + the Pentagon. These lists aren't as long and could be combined. If we have more than 39 that want to participate, we could have multiple people with a list. No one person's voice would dominate and perhaps we would like to do it up on Deck 10 in the open air. Thought it could be interesting if we spread out all around the top of the ship, forming a large circle, facing the ocean. Too wacky? or a possibility?

...I remember that *flower* said DCL might do something - and of course, there will be programs on the TV. The time of the first airplane strike was 8:46 am ET - which is 2:46 pm in our part of the Med. She had suggested 2:30 to gather. That would give us time to hand out lists and then have a moment of silence. Someone could be the designated starter and wave to the next person - like lighting bonfires along the coast of England or the Great Wall of China - and then the reading of names in remembrance would begin after you waved.

Since it seems we are not supposed to throw anything off the ship, we'll just throw our voices to the wind.

...Some positive responses to this idea. When *flower* reads it, we'll see what she has to say.

IF your item has dual voltage - like my C-pap and hairdryer, or a hot water coil with no moving parts, then you only need an outlet adapter. IF, on the other hand, your item is not dual voltage then you need the 'converter' which steps down the voltage from 220 to 110. If "charging" is all you need, I'm not sure if you'll need a converter - since we didn't HAVE rechargables 25 years ago when we left Germany. (How did we exist before cell phones, computers, and digital cameras?)

We are still planning to get together; the 8:46am NYC time (when the first tower was hit) is 2:46 pm between Barcelona and Gibraltar (they are the same time zone).

Right now it seems to be a toss-up as to whether we meet in one of the lounges/clubs that has a TV so we can watch what is going on in NYC at the WTC or whether we want to gather up on deck for some reflective time.

We'd called DCL and all they would tell us is that they had the day designated as "Patriot Day" and that there would be some sort of coverage on board (TV).

I'd asked for thoughts from the group that originally answered up- Josh had said that probably meeting in a lounge with a TV would be good so that we could watch the coverage. Anyone else have a suggestion??

count us in. It sounds like a wonderful idea to 'throw our voices to the wind' Perhaps they'll hear us and know we remember.

We too would like to participate if an event is planned. In law enforcement I have had the experience of attending many 9/11 memorials. I have seen the idea done before. I think many people liked it. I was not a huge fan as it to me, purely my own flawed opinion, it was not as meaningful as a time of reflection and a few people moved to make statements. Everyone talking to me was somewhat of a distaction and I found it hard to focus on the reality this country endured on 9/11. I felt disrespectful to all the names as it felt hectic. Just my opinion....I am open to whatever.

Glad to see others have interest as well. If something is planned please let us know. We have a GTY room with no assignment yet so I cannot give you a room number, etc. My name is TC Clements and my wife is Jamie. I hope a CM could locate us should this come together at the last minute.

Can't wait to meet everyone soon!

Lynne, this is exactly what I was looking for!! We would love to do this- and hope that there will a nice size group participating. You're the BEST!!

Now all we have to do is decide where on deck 10 to meet. I also found a logo for a shirt, but don't know if anyone else would want to use it. If you'd like to, let me know and I can send it to you. DH has already enhanced the file size to make a good quality logo. The file size is just under 700k.

Thanks again Lynne, and thank you all! I had fears that this memorial wouldn't get too far- but now I know that it will.
