*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

I'm so sorry to hear you came back to such difficulties, Jill. Pixie dust heading your way that you MIL and grandson recover quickly pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:.

I had to take our old boy George to the vet's on Thursday. He's had problems with his left back leg (essentially, the cartilege in his knee is gone), but he was all swollen up under his chin and it didn't look good. He was also breathing really hard.

It turns out, he has congestive heart failure and is retaining water which is bloating him in various places, but also putting pressure on his heart and lungs. Our vet gave me some heart pills for him (well, "gave" to the tune of $200 for one month's worth of pills) and called in two other prescriptions for blood pressure pills and a diuretic to help with the water retention. Did you know you can get dog prescriptions filled at the regular pharmacy? I just wish I could claim him on our insurance - though those two Rx's were much less expensive.

Anyway, George seems to be doing better, though the bloating is taking it's time going down. Honestly, though, he's 80-odd pounds (when I took him in he weighed 95 lbs - like 10 lbs of water there!) and he's 13 years old, which makes him something like 90 in human years. Dogs his size usually live 10-12 years, so I know we've been on "borrowed time" with him for quite a while now. I figure he'll let me know when the time comes. For now, he seems determined to hang in there a little while longer. He's still barking at the neighbors and enjoying the heck out of it, so I know he's not ready to go yet.

sorry to hear that pat, hope george gets better soon and that the meds work

jill, keeping everything crossed for your grandson and your family

Hi Pat,

Hope George will feel better soon!

We had a blast in Orlando, even had a free day @ Magic Kingdom because the card reader didn't work... They wrote with black marker on the back the date but our card were soaked @ the end of the day so the dates washed off...
Thanks for your advice about Orlando

Greetings from Paul - Manon and Nina (room 5627)

Thanks Pat and Karen for your well wishes.

Pat I hate hearing about your dog. I know they are like family to us. I'm glad he is doing better now. Hopefully they can ease his pain and discomfort and he will be around for much longer.

Hi everyone, I have not had time to get on here since I got back either. I came home to a really rough week.

Did you know you can get dog prescriptions filled at the regular pharmacy? I just wish I could claim him on our insurance - though those two Rx's were much less expensive.

 to both of you, and Congrats on the new baby, Jill!!! With the medical miracles performed every day now, I'm hopeful the outcome over time will be positive. I'm sorry you have to experience sadness and loss after such a wonderful vacation, though. The real world stinks sometimes :guilty:.

Pat, who knew you could get doggy RX's anywhere other than the vets? Funny what you learn on these boards :goodvibes. Sounds like George is so darned happy with your little family, he's in no hurry (and if I was a dog, I'd want to live with you, too :))

DM and I both caught upper resp. infections (mostly throat); some inconsiderate person was coughing and sneezing just behind me the last night in the WDT, so I blame them :headache:! Our first night off the ship, I was up for two hours (3-5am), with a very sore throat which felt almost swollen shut (although I could breathe, so I knew I'd live ;)). It took me over an hour to swallow a bunch of tiny low-dose aspirin, one at a time, because I couldn't get anything larger down. I though for sure I'd be in the ER that night. Once the swelling eased a bit, I was able to start swallowing antibiotics and other anti-inflammatories, which were literally a life-saver. The next day, we did Magic Kingdom...meds are amazing, but I wouldn't have disappointed my family unless absolutely unavoidable. This wasn't your run-of-the-mill viral infection, and Mother came down with it the day after we returned home and had to go see her dr. for ABT. Of course, she blamed me :confused3.

It continues to be rainy and quite cool in the NE :headache::headache::headache:. At least summer seemed to have been extended with our time in FL. Now the leaves are changing and falling, and we're watching tv at night bundled up. Sigh....:sad2:

Jill and Pat, sorry to hear you both faced such traumatic news at home. "Welcome back to reality" :( Hopefully, all concerned will be well soon.

Pat... Poor George I hope he is on the mend again very soon. It's very hard when animals are sick ad can't explain how they feel.

Jill.... Congrats on your new grandson and best of luck that he gets stronger every day until he can go home. (my first nanny job was looking after a little boy who was 5 months premature and weighed 1lb 1oz!! He is now 15 and completely healthy.) So magic really does happen in these hospitals for the little ones that need some extra pixie dust :))

Hope everyone is having a good and healthy weekend. We have had a beautifully sunny day today - 30 degrees!!!! Unimaginable for this time of year so making the most of it.
We paid deposit on our next holiday yesterday so now have something else to work towards as have developed major PCHD today!!!!!!

Annemarie :)))

Jill so sorry to hear all the things you are dealing with since returning home, my thoughts are with your DD and your Grandson. I saw the picture of Facebook and he looks like a little fighter. :wizard:

Pat, I am sorry to hear about George. Fingers crossed the meds will work and make him better.

Since we got home i've discovered a large lump on Stamford's leg, he is booked in to the vet next week so we'll see what happens. I am sure they will remove it and send it to the lab for tests, fingers crossed it is not another tumor. :guilty:

Many thanks to EVERYONE for the fantastic cruise that we had with all of you!!

Noel and John- we really appreciated all of your hard work- and hope we can have the pleasure of sailing with you (and the rest of you) in the future!

Jill,

One of my co-worker's had a baby (well, his wife had it...but you know what I mean) about 4 years ago. His wife developed HELP syndrome and he almost lost her. Miss Lucy weighed in at a whopping 1 pound and was born at 24 weeks. Her daddy's wedding ring was huge on her upper arm....and she was smaller than his hand. She made remarkable progress and went home at what would have been 37 weeks. Caring for her that first year was tricky....she couldn't be around anyone who was sick for fear of getting RSV or Rotavirus. Today, little Miss Lucy is nearly 4 and runs circles around us all! She is smart as a whip and has a vocabulary that is very advanced for her age.

I tell you this to encourage you. I led a group at work in making meals for the family for the first 8 weeks after mom was discharged from the hospital and we just never let them give up. They didn't have family around....so we became family and took care of everything from laundry to running errand and walking the dog.

Let us know how your granddaughter does....though I am sure that she will do well because she wouldn't possibly want to miss a trip to Disney with her grandma!

Keri

Wow thanks guys i'm blushing:flower3:

Keeping everything crossed here for 2013 :thumbsup2

Hi everyone.

We're back home now after a very long day traveling yesterday. Didn't get back till late last night. Caught up with girls & dogs.

Just like to thank everyone we met for being so lovely and helping make our cruise a very memorable one! We didn't get to meet lots of people.

x

Glad you're both back safe and sound Michelle, it was fantastic meeting you both and spending time with you on the cruise :woohoo:

We are experiencing ridiculously high temperatures 28 - 30 degrees, for the time of year in the UK. Great because it reminds me of the weather on the cruise and Florida, but not so good in a stuffy uniform driving about in the car all day visiting clients. I had put fleeces and coats in the car for when we landed at Manchester, instead I got off the plane and I thought we had landed somewhere else :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Missing everyone ..... especially the guys from table 67 / 68 / 69 :hug::hug:

Now when are we having that reunion :yay::yay:

Missing you guys too, Sarah. Get the calender out and let's liaise on a date early next year for our mini reunion. Everyone get checking out their nearest easyjet flights to Inverness lol.... beds available at Casa Kay for everyone

Hi everyone, I have not had time to get on here since I got back either. I came home to a really rough week. First off a friend of ours was killed in a motorcycle accident... then we got news my MIL has a blockage in her jugular vein and she is too weak for surgery. Our son called to tell us he was heading for Iraq, (good news there, he didn't have to go after all) We then got news our daughter was in labor and only at 25 weeks. Yesterday afternoon she gave birth to a baby boy weighing 1lb 13 oz. He is in the NICU unit in critical condition.

Sorry to hear of all your news when you got back home and wishing everyone our best wishes. Congratulations on your new bundle and I hope your new grandson is a little fighter and gets of the critical list soon

Oh no babes, I hope he is okay. It may be localised and they can remove it all no problems. Big hugs from us.

I want to know who gave us all this stinking cold :headache: Stevie and I have been floored all weekend with it and I am really only feeling a little bit better today and have only put the pc on to do my lost luggage claim with BA which has to be lodged today. That's making my head, which already feels like it is going to explode, even worse :headache: :rotfl2:

I came home with one too. Just now feeling somewhat better. That wasn't nice for someone to share with so many. Had a wonderful cruise, I wish I could have had time to spend with all of you, but the time just flew by. Many Thanks to Noel and John for the awesome Navigator you put together. I think I might have missed some things if I didn't have it to refer to and all the room numbers,You rock. To all of the others who organized and planned all of the other activities Thank You so much for your hard work. As far as I was concerned, everything went off without a hitch, however I heard that was not true. Your efforts and phone calls, emails everything else you had to do is so appreciated. :worship::worship::worship:.

I have made friendships that I will have for a lifetime, and am already planning to meet with some of the girls from "Table 23" dining. :grouphug:

Thank you again to everyone for being such special people.:grouphug::grouphug:

Here here!!!! Warren, I loved watching your tricks every night, even though they made my head explode. :headache: ;) It was so nice of you to entertain us whilst we waited for hot meals. :lmao:

You certainly added even more "Magic" to our holiday memories.

It's horrid, isn't it! We have been suffering with it since getting off the ship, I have a horrid cough now too....I blame Abby (as she's not on here to defend herself ;) ), hope you are both feeling better soon. Good luck with your baggage claim.

Sorry to hear you are poorly too Evelyn, I think a lot of people have it but I am just grateful that we got it after the cruise and not during as it would have spoilt our fun.

Thanks again for getting Lee's beer glass, it made it home safely and he was using it this afternoon. :thumbsup2

I don't know about her, but when boarding our flight Sunday morning at MCO, a family behind us had lost their ipad onboard. The mom had heard about me and my issues with trying to get Sarah's overnight Character Campout bag back that had been most likely mistakenly taken by another parent when picking up our little ones from Kids Club the following morning. It had two pairs of Sarah's shoes (and nice clothes from dinner the previous night), and thankfully we had her plastic princess shoes she could wear since she was not allowed in restaurants without shoes! But Guest Services was of ZERO help, as was the Oceaneer's Club until we finally had it escalated that afternoon. Four trips to Guest Services per issue was usually our norm to finally get issues resolved, and we had about four issues to deal with throughout the cruise: changing Mixology ticket due to Princess Tea time assigned, Overnight Character Campout bag taken (eventually got it back), wine glasses for stateroom, and no Shutters CD delivered to cabin on disembarkation day. I kinda got used to standing in that line :rolleyes1

Hi Not sure if this is relevant to you but we were also on the cruise in 2554 and my daughters mac book was stolen on the last night between 8.15pm and 10.30pm, Disney have been totally unhelpful not returning calls or recognising there is a problem, I feel silly that it was not in the safe, I have added the problem to DIS, just wondered what the circumstances where with the lady who lost her ipad.:confused3

That is such a shame, I hope Disney get back to you & fix this issue...it is terrible that they are not returning your calls etc. It would be interesting to know if the person who had the iPad taken were in the same area as you, I am sure if they are then Disney would easily be able to narrow it down to who took the items! :sad2:

I too left my laptop & iphone etc in my room at times without it being locked in the safe, so don't beat yourself up over it.

Thank you everyone for your encouragements and prayers. Baby Zayne touched the hearts of so many around the world in his short little life. It is amazing how many people all around the world were praying for him. I am sure he felt the love from each of us..... I love you baby Zayne and will miss you terribly....grandma ....

I am so very sorry Jill. That is so sad. Lots of love and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sitting here with a major lump in my throat :sad1:. There are no words. So, so sorry to hear he didn't make it. Please express our sympathy to his mom and dad, even though they have no idea who we are. Our thoughts are with you.

Oh Jill I am so sorry to hear about baby Zayne. You and your family are in our prayers and I hope that you all make it through this difficult time.
