*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Oh no Claire! I just read your reply about it being on the 15th not 13th. That's a busy day! Palos group 2 brunch is at 10:30, then Pub crawl at 1, then champagne girls at 3 and then Villians at night. Holy cow! I am never making it to dinner that night! :lmao:

I cast my vote for BYOB cause I like that people bring bottles from all over the world where they live or have traveled to. Some bottles have such a fun history to them. I love that! But again I'll go either way. :)

Hey folks. Late to register, but I have been reading things off and on for months getting ready for the cruise. We are the Worthy's from the FB group in Palo group #4.

We are Americans (texans) living in Napoli, Italia and are going home on the Magic for the first time in three years. long time from home, but will be fun to go back this way.

Want to say thanks for all of the great info and the help getting the Palo brunch - grazie mille!

Welcome ... and what a beautiful place to live ... I love Italy :thumbsup2

As I said I will go with whatever the majority want....Bring Your Own or DCL but we need to decide asap though!!!!!

It is not a formal tasting, that is what they offered me BUT I made it clear that we do not want a tasting and a sommelier and they finally confirmed yesterday it will be a champagne reception as per my request.

Who else wants to bring your own bottle rather than go with DCL???

I am easy with whatever .... but the champagne reception sounds great :thumbsup2 and thank you so much for your hard work and patience on this one

ARGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! My mistake, I mean't the 15th! Just typed the wrong darn thing earlier & didn't notice.....sorry my head is all over the place today!

Oh, glad it's not a formal tasting! Like I said, I'm good with it either way, especially if it's reception-style.

The tastings I've been to have been fairly generous with the liquor, though it would've been nice if DCL had been a bit more forthcoming with the details on that. If we go with DCL, I'd suggest not fooling with the Pub Crawl date again as people have already had to change their plans once for it. If the Crawl is planned from 1:00-5:00, we could just crawl to the Champagne Girls meet at 3:00 and crawl back to the group afterwards. We will never find a day and time that doesn't conflict with someone's plans for something, even if we go with BYO.

I'd like to hear what the "veterans" of last year's Champagne Girls think. Will we be able to find a place to meet if decide to do a BYO meet? Will "party crashers" be a problem? We haven't had anyone volunteer a room (I would, but ours is a regular sized cabin and Dennis' socks will be on every seating place - eew), so I'm thinking we'd have to take over the Promenade lounge, a deck space, or the deck 7 aft space.

How do others feel about picking their own champagne? Personally, I know what I like and know a fair amount about wine, so I think BYO would be fun. But I can see people feeling intimidated about choosing something, to which I say...

When in doubt, pick something with a cute label and a fair price. You'd be surprised at how tasty some of the "cheap stuff" can be.

It would probably be more convenient to just go with the DCL plan, as long as everyone is okay with the details of it.

And Claire, THANK YOU AGAIN for all your work, worry, and diligence in dealing with us and DCL. Not an easy task!

Have we decided a day for the scrapbook / cove cafe meet yet?

Not yet. I think we were waiting on the Champagne Girls and Mojito/Mixology dates. We're a pretty small group, so maybe we can work this out at the last minute? If we have room numbers and can contact each other, that might not be so bad.

No not yet, I am just waiting until the Champagne Girls & Mojito/mixology tastings are confirmed by DCL.

Hopefully it will be soon!!!

To my knowledge most of the champagne girls meets have either been arranged through DCL or they have been held in a private room.......which I don't think we will be possible in this case as we have around 60 people! (inc waitlist)

If we do BYO then the issue is trying to find a bar with a big empty group of tables that doesn't have any other organised events already taking place. I know for sure DCL have their own wine tasting event on the afternoon of the 15th so who knows what else will be taking place in other areas.

I am not 100% sure as i'm waiting for DCL to reply but I think sessions will be closed to just us for that period, if so then no one else will be able to help themselves to our Champagne.

Yes if it comes to it, I will call everyone on the ship to let them know but I am sure we will have a date arranged before we go. :thumbsup2

Right, but I thought if we did BYO we could choose another date, like the 13th or the 16th or 17th. I think we had talked about the 17th at first. Not that DCL wouldn't have something scheduled, just that those dates wouldn't conflict with the Pub Crawl.

I was thinking that was more of a problem with a BYO meet.

I think we might be better off going with the convenience of DCL-arranged, even though I like the adventure of BYO.

Thanks for all the suggestions :)

I have emailed the lady who is helping me organise the tastings with that suggestion, but she has not got back to me.

I also said that we would have to check with everyone when the dates are offered if it's ok with their plans. So nothing is set in concrete yet. The dates might not suit everyone so we would have to move people around once we get the dates.

It will work out:wizard: not stressing out.
:thumbsup2 (Everything always works out...just not always the way we'd like! :hippie:)

:welcome: to our craziness (especially 14 days out!!!!) :cool1:. Lots of Texans on this cruise, incl. our DD from Austin. I can't wait to hear a Texan drawl with an Italian accent....

Nothing like last minute....I decided to buy a new travel (dual voltage) hair dryer and couldn't find one I liked locally, so I placed an Amazon order today. Also picked up an adapter and luggage bungee. I love Amazon :lovestruc.

Larry is all proud of himself because, when I bought $80 worth of clothes (clearance) the other day, he bought socks :goodvibes. For a man who hates to shop, that was something. Like I've said before, he'll be the one in the shorts and Jimmy Buffett t-shirts every day.

For anyone in the hurricane zone, please be careful and take no chances. Lots of people from NY/NJ are evacuating to our area today, so the highways, stores, and restaurants are busier than usual. We'll get most of our wind/rain tomorrow :guilty:...as long as the power doesn't go out, no problem, I'll just be cleaning anyway (in anticipation of DM's arrival Saturday!).

ARGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! My mistake, I mean't the 15th! Just typed the wrong darn thing earlier & didn't notice.....sorry my head is all over the place today!

Claire don't worry, we work it out.
I am in for both of it.
It is what Pat said. I like to choose a bottle of my own. I will buy it in Spain, not the Netherlands. I am new to all of this,so I don't have a clue where we can held it then.
But if the most will do the reception that DCL offers it is also oke with me.
And for me the 15th is better, because I am not with the pubcrawl. At least that what I thinking now.
And the 13th is the Palo brunch of group 1.

I think we might be better off going with the convenience of DCL-arranged, even though I like the adventure of BYO.

Perhaps we could go with the DCL date as the "Official" Champagne Girls reception .... I am more than 100% certain that with this group there will be more than one or two "informal" meet ups for drinkies, sharing bottles of champagne along the way. I think that with the numbers involved it will be nigh on impossible to find a date that suits everyone, or a venue that they would be happy for us to commandeer with our own booze and that amount of people without hassle.

Just my opinion .....

Ok let's try this another way. A question for those that had child care issues before when the Pub Crawl was moved from the 16th to the 15th (Sorry I can't recall everyone that had a problem)....

Have you been able to get a place in the kids club for the 15th or what is your situation, are you no longer doing the pub crawl? If it doesn't cause any problems to switch the Pub Crawl date then surely this is the easiest option?

:headache:

It definitely won't be the 13th, that was my mistake. DCL can not do that day.

Welcome fellow Texans...... glad you could join us!

Thanks Claire for taking care of champagne girls. I can't imagine the hassle! I've never been to a Champagne girls where DCL hosted it. The 3 or 4 I have been to were very informal events hosted in a cabin/suite with the large balcony, everyone brings a bottle of wine or champagne and a glass. Host/organizer drinks for free! There has always been such a ton left over that I am surprised that people have run into problems with running out of champagne. :confused3 I have a bottom of the barrel room so I'm no help there. :rotfl: If no one offers up their room then of course we will need to depend on DCL and it is getting late.

I'm in either way but I agree, a champagne tasting doesn't sound like fun. Hopefully it will just be a fun loving group of gals mingling. The people and dress-up is what makes it fun, the drinks are so secondary to me.

Ok.. My 2 cents worth... On the EBTA we had a vow renewal... I contacted DCL and just asked for a venue. They gave us Sessions, I think. Anyway they do not charge for group activities... They will accommodate us for our group. If you tell them we want to have champagne but will purchase it when we get there then we could do that. That way we only pay for what champagne we order. We can buy some bottles or just glasses... some of us could go in together and get a bottle or two. The options are there for whatever. The main thing is reserving a place for us to meet. BTW we had about 65 people at the vow renewal... so I know they can handle this size of group.

I don't know, i've asked if they can do other dates and she didn't seem to think they could fit us in elsewhere so they must have other planned events?

Oh, good point. I hadn't thought of that.

Me too.

And if we can change the Pub Crawl date, fine, if we can't, fine. I'll just throw my t-shirt on over my pink dress and go for it! I knew that alcohol tolerance I built up in college would come in handy someday! ;)

Hi all

Just catching up on all the chat re the event.

As you all know, we have been chatting for months about our deck 10 balcony and all the lovely bottles of bubbly, FABs, and the copious amounts of alcohol we are going to buy and demolish from morrisons.

Let's make champagne girls a bit more special and let DCL serve it to us instead :thumbsup2. Sessions is a lovely place to have it :lovestruc It's a shame it may clash for a few people with pub crawl, but we are going to get onboard and some of the great DCL activities are going to clash with our DIS schedule anyway, so it's inevitable.

I vote for a lovely venue and organised by DCL and, after all the hard work that Claire has put in, it would be a shame not to do it :confused3

Thanks for your continued effort Claire it's appreciated :)

September 11 Remembrance

I'm good with what the masses wish to do. However... My preference is closer to what GatorMomInNC is suggesting. :)

I think I would prefer meeting and watching the events on TV. For one thing, I do want to see the official ceremonies from NYC and DC and PA (I assume) on the TV. I feel like that will connect me to all the Americans back home, as they will probably be watching those ceremonies also.

But how long I can stay... well, I think I am going to have to play it by ear. I very well may get emotional even just watching the stuff on TV and I don't want to have my kids there - I think they are too young to understand and would be frightened to see their mother upset like that. So my time will be limited to how long the kids will be occupied in the clubs, and given it is only the 2nd day of the cruise, they may not want to stay very long.

So, I plan on watching the ceremonies on TV wherever people gather to watch, and probably participating in whatever official event DCL does (if any), but I don't think I will do the deck thing, although I think it is a lovely idea.

WELCOME!!! My DH (Erik) and I are also from the USA. We actually live in Minnesota. I hope we get a chance to meet IRL. :)

In other news: Please stay safe everyone who is in the line of miss crabby (aka hurricane Irene). I'm watching coverage and it seems like quite the storm but I'm glad she's only a category 1.

Thanks ladies, I guess we will see what else they say in the coming days. I'll update as & when I hear from them. :goodvibes

Mary I agree, Sessions looks lovely & would be the perfect location! I had a look at the 360 degree camera on DCL's website. ;)

I think I quoted everyone below so I had a few comments I wanted to share. First I am fine with the date and the cost. Based on my last years experience with the Champagne Girls, I think Claire has come up with an excellent plan.

The only time you can get about 60 persons in a gathering in a private room is to have the Walt suite. We had about that many in a DIS gathering we had on a 2007 NYE cruise on the Magic. If you have a concierge suite, they will be much more helpful in providing glasses, ice etc. I was able to work with the land concierge to arrange all the food, drinks etc. I don't think you can do this in a regular stateroom but if I am incorrect I am sure someone will quickly correct me.

Last year there were some hard feelings about missing bottles etc. This way no one will be responsible for bringing champagne or worry that their more expensive champagne disappears without even being opened.

As another posted mentioned, I would think that DCL would provide a closed off venue with tickets as they do with the tastings. Those who participate would get a charge on their stateroom as well the ticket being delivered to their stateroom.

Based on my experience, I think the option Claire has so diligently worked on is our best option for an official Champagne girls meet.

Just my thoughts...

Ok folks i've got an update for the Champagne Girls!!!!

DCL have finally been in contact with me & offered the 13th September, 3pm - 4.30pm at Sessions. :cool1: :yay:

The cost will be $20 per person - I am still waiting for confirmation how much Champagne we will get per person for that price. I will also need more information from you guys, such as room numbers etc but i'll update again as soon as I hear from DCL.

Now the issue we have is the 13th September is the new date the Pub Crawl was moved to & quite a few people are signed up for both the Champagne Girls & also the Pub Crawl. What are your opinions please? Is it possible to move the Pub Crawl again without causing too many issues with child care? We also need to bare in mind that Michelle is still awaiting the dates for the Mojito & Mixology tastings so they could clash with the pub crawl? Although she will hopefully have two groups for each so we can switch people around if need be to avoid any further clashes.

What a headache! :headache: Still just think in two weeks time we will all be getting on the ship about now so all this hassle will be a distant memory.....:dance3:

I suppose the two options would be to either go with the DCL Champagne tasting and change the day of the pub crawl if that can be done or to just do our own thing with the champagne girls event and have it on a different day. Is that the only day DCL can do it ?

I'm fairly sure that is the only day they will offer us, I have asked but not had a response yet but to be honest it has taken a lot of effort to get one date from them so I doubt they will give me anything else.

Claire I am ok with either - the 13th or do as Sarah suggests and do our own thing on whichever day is ok with everyone else. Whichever is going to cause the least hassle and :headache: :):goodvibes

Believe me I appreciate the amount of effort this takes ... and how frustrating it can be. We just need to go for whatever is the least hassle for sure :thumbsup2

I agree .... none of us need an extra hassle at this late stage ... deciding what to take and packing is enough to be contending with

No problem. I wish I didn't have to drag the stupid converter with me - it's so darn heavy!

I think that's what we'll be doing, too.

I hate to ask this after all the trouble Claire has gone to in setting this up, but... what is the advantage of having DCL do this, versus doing it on our own? I seem to recall reading something about people showing up last year and drinking the champagne without contributing anything (which would seriously annoy me). And there is the issue of where to do this. I'm just thinking I can buy a pretty decent bottle of champagne (or a couple of semi-decent bottles) to share for $20. I'm also wondering if it will be set up like the other tastings - places set, where everyone sits down with a few other people, and the sommalier (sp?) talks about each wine. I was hoping for something a bit more informal where we'd be able to mingle some, although it's fine with me if we go with what DCL offers.

Welcome aboard!

No not yet, I am just waiting until the Champagne Girls & Mojito/mixology tastings are confirmed by DCL.

Hopefully it will be soon!!!

Lol, if you make it to dinner I am sure you won't remember it. :lmao:

I thought it sounded good too......

:thumbsup2

Claire I'll just go with whatever the majority wants to do. I don't mind if we BYO or go with DCL's.
 Thank you for doing this.

Welcome

Welcome fellow Texans...... glad you could join us!

Want to say thanks for all of the great info and the help getting the Palo brunch - grazie mille!
welcome! We, Charlie and Jean are also in Palo group 4, so see you then if not before.
