We booked the Voyager of the Seas from New Orleans to Barcelona next April. The current price for an inside cabin is $639 (we paid a little less since they had a sale a month or two ago) for 16 days starting on April 14, 2012.

RCCL changed the plans after that (it was going to do Mediterranean cruises during the summer, but now it is going to sail out of Shanghai, China next July.

They recently put the repositioning cruises on sale. Today their website says $799 for the 15 day cruise from Barcelona to Dubai, and $689 for the 11-day trip from Dubai to Singapore. Put them all together and you get 42 days for $2127 each for an inside. As a past cruiser and over 55 I think I can get it for a little less, but I did not log in to check. If you decide to go for it, let me know. I will look for you on the TA leg, at least.

Regards,
jerry

Thank you so much. I passed it on to the two people that were asking me about it. You are right an amazing price

I've just about got them finished - I'm not doing too many, but enough to make an impact. I only bought 3 magnet papers and ran out, so I need to get some more today.

Claire, I would like to RSVP for the SM Reveal and Farewell Lunch. Let me know if I should send you a PM in addition.

I can add you no worries. :thumbsup2 Are you travelling solo, I can't remember?

We don't know if we get seasick or not, as we've not wanted to take a chance that one minute of our cruise is spent being unwell. Starting the night before cruising, we use the one a day Bonine. By taking it at night before going to bed, any drowsiness that may occur is slept off. We've never had a single problem :goodvibes

That's a good tip about taking it at night, thanks. :goodvibes

We purchased Bonine when were were in Orlando in May, however on our last 2 cruises there was a big box of sea sickness tablets outside the sick bay on deck 1.

Thanks, i know where to go if I run out. :)

Karen - We did this in Jan. The wak to the start of town which you can see from the ship is about a 20 min walk and to the cable cars which I believe is the far edge of town is about a 30 min walk.

There is a garden area that is pretty cool and shopping and eating available.

We spent about 4 hours on shore and really enjoyed it. Also there is free wifi all around town and you can gte it from the where the ship docks as well. :-)

Thanks for the info, we were thinking we might do a bit of self sight seeing also. Does anyone know if the wine tour building is close to the port? Can't get my map to load properly!

Drinks (Mixology & Mojito) tasting reminder

It's getting near to the 30 day pre cruise date. Fingers crossed we get our days/dates.
Just a reminder that I am going to need all of your names and cabin numbers for the tastings as they are charged to your cabin number.

Not too late to sign up for these events. Info is on the first page of this thread.

for people who have done funchal on their own before (not on a tour), is there much within walking distance from the port? anything you suggest doing that doesnt involve a tour or a taxi? leaning towards a bit of freestyle touring...

Karen....that's what we are leaning towards too!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Yes I agree the cable car and a lovely indoor market (mostly food from what I remember ) are a short walk 20/30 mins from the port, The views from the cable car are amazing with a lovely church at the top, from there you can watch the men take tourists down the hill in large wicker carts.... not something I felt brave enough to try.

:headache::headache: Have just arrived home and hoping I will make it to the cruise. DS takes his driving test in 3 weeks and needs lots of practice but not sure my nerves will hold out lol... after this I will need a holiday. What makes it worse is because he's 6ft 7 and has size 18 feet he won't fit in a driving school car, so had to buy one and it's large !!..... and what is it with sons they just don't listen :scared1::scared1: and of course I have nothing esle to do... but I love him really, now for a big glass of wine

Good Luck Margaret:)

We've always said when our DD's want to learn to drive they will just go with an instructor for our own sanity ;) DD1 did just this and passed first time. DD2 has no interest in driving yet!!

There is a flower market in Funchal which is interesting with the gorgeous flowers including the birds of paradise, but also the sellers wear national costume. Makes for some lovely photos.

Is this near the port? I love going to open air markets that sell flowers. Especially loved the one in Nice, France! :goodvibes

With all the talk of sea sickness medicine I wanted to mention something that *Flower*'s husband told me last year when we were considering getting dramamine and the like. (And he would know having been in the Navy) Most of those sea sickness medicines you need take before you get on the ship and have to continue taking until you get off. They will have no effect whatsoever once you get sick. So be careful and check with your pharmacist to make sure you get the right medicine that will actually help you out. I would hate for anybody to have to spend the money on the medicine to find out it didn't help at all. Also keep in mind that you can get sea sickness pills from guest services and the infirmary on the ship. Just an FYI.

If you are truly prone to seasickness, the Scopolamine patch might be the way to go. It is a prescription product; each patch lasts for 3-4 days. But it does not have the same severe anticholinergic effects: sleepiness and dry mouth. When wearing it, I know that the ship is rocking, but my stomach doesn't react to that motion.

The meclizine/Bonine type tablets still make me sleepy, even though marketed as "less drowsy."

That sounds fab....Birds of paradise are my favourite flower. :goodvibes Can you take flowers back on to the ship?

INTERESTED IN A GROUP BRUNCH AT PALO?

Hey New Cruisers! Want to meet some other people from this forum?

You can enjoy a lovely Champagne Brunch at Palo on one of the Sea Days.

$20 per person (same price if you could get a small table).

The private dining room has a table for 12-14 people (see above); otherwise, the food & beverage (champagne included) are the same as the main Palo dining room.

Old cruisers are welcome, too.

If interested, leave a post here or send me a PM.

If I remember correctly you can not bring flowers on board. when I get home in a little while I will try and post some pictures from our trip last year. We just walked around town. But the flowers festival was going on.

So far only a few people have replied to my sad, pathetic, bitter poll about room assignments, but as I suspected I am the ONLY person who has not gotten a room assignment!!:sad::sad:
