What is a FAB?

Very happy to meet at 3 or later on deck 10 or whatever group decides; putting names and avatars with real faces will be nice.

It would be 3pm in the Promenade Lounge. I think others are going to be somewhere(?9 or 10) for the non sailaway party though

OK, following on from a post on our Facebook page.

Are we having a welcome get together in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm on embarkation day? We don't think it has been mentioned here, but it would be a great chance to meet and greet, and possibly for Noel(with help) to distribute the lanyards and pins if she wants to.

We know there is supposed to be a gathering for the (non)sailaway party and that can still go ahead of course. It is quite a bit of fun joining with others for that.

Also someone wondered about an evening gathering which also would be a great idea for those who would like a wee drinkie along with others to aid getting to know each other even more;) Now I wouldn't be at this one, but do you think it is a good idea?

Both of these sound good to me Marilyn :) I wasn't at the Promenade Lounge meet last year - think I was doing the walking tour of the ship at that time. Would love to stop by this time though :)

Since I've never been on the TA before, I assume this means that we don't sail until later? Is that correct?

We sailed during dinner last year - 9.30. Just felt the ship start moving and all the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. It was fantastic :yay:

It is still behaving like April here Jools! Had to being my washing in. Out again now, but the dark clouds are building again. Good exercise I suppose.:rotfl:

It's lashing down now. All washing successfully dried outdoors and back inside now.

Jacqueline, pixie dust on its way from Australia, hope the op is soon and recovery is less then 2 days.:grouphug:

Burnice

Ditto!! Looking forward to sharing our cabana on Castaway Cay with you!

Thanks so much, both of you.

Noel; me too. Pretty powerfull stuff, one good look at some of the pics on the cabana-thread already feels like a minivacation for those few seconds. Can only imagine what the real thing will be. :goodvibes

Morning!

Not to hijack the thread, but need some quick advice. Jeremy has been mulling the idea of taking a run down to WDW this weekend. Any tips on maybe where to stay cheap off property? I am sure on property even at pop century would be high given the short notice.

We would probably leave tomorrow night, drive straight thru and stay sat and sun nights.

Chris

Oh gosh, the benefits of being so "close by". :worship::worship: Have you checked out priceline? Esp. because you are so last minute they might just have an amazing bargain on it? A quick check on the feedback on there and on tripadvisor will give a very good idea of what to expect so you can see if it fits what the 2 of you are looking for before actually booking. Either way; have fun!

Ladies this is most definately not for you and is only for the MEN.;)

  It would be nice to spend more on clothes than this vacation, but it's not happening in this house :sad2:

Love the site! Thanks for sharing it with us! :thumbsup2

You're welcome

No life jackets on any cruises anymore, its a freedom we have never known! Probably saves from a lot of accidental tripping on the straps.

Probably also saves wear and tear on the life jacket too :thumbsup2

Phooey--I thought FAB meant FREE alcoholic beverage. I thought maybe there were more benefits on a TransAtlantic cruise. Ah well.

I'm not sure what we will do yet. I didn't realize it was a 17 Hour drive!!! :scared1:

Looked into cheap airfare yet? Odds aren't that huge, but who knows? Perhaps flying from a different airport and drive a bit further to an airport if they got an amazing rate? And/or into Sandford? Looked into costs and time for taking a train?

If it were to come down to driving, how many hours would you have there, 48? Is a total of 34 hours driving worth the 48 hours there? I could see where it is a very different thing if even driving one hour already feels like punishment to you then when you'ld be used to doing a 10 hours drive and can do so without it affecting moods a lot.

Wouldn't it be easier if we could just use a teleport? :wizard:

disney and FREE?! thats two words that arent ever in the same sentence :rotfl:

so glad we dont have to wear the lifejackets any more, we always turned up on time and had to wait fifteen mins in the heat squidged too close to fellow cruisers, for latecomers. last year our muster station was in the theatre, that was soooo much more tolerable!
for those people who like the photos, you can still take it in your room!

oh and congrats to steamboat will for winning the UK community board quiz!

I did pop down for a short time and to pick up our lanyards and pins. John doesn't like things like that though. It was packed solid and I did get to meet a few people I had been chatting to for all that time prior to the cruise. I believe they took a big group photo after I left.

It is a shame that we don't leave till later in the evening as it just isn't quite the same as setting off at the sailaway party.

I remember that too now you mention it, it was so exciting suddenly realising we were sailing away. My DSIL was so excited as it was her first cruise ever.

She is so so disappointed she can't make it this year :sad2:

We were only briefly at the meet in the promenade lounge too. Again, my DSIL was getting a ship tour from us and we were only there for about 5 mins, we missed the photo too, but got our lanyards and wrist bands :cool1:

I think I might spend longer this year meeting all you chatty people :lmao: and putting faces to names :thumbsup2

I am feeling a little better thanks Karen.

I have used Scrapyourtrip several times, I usually place my order a week or so before I leave & get it shipped to the hotel. They are fab and i've never had a problem. :goodvibes
I've also used MouseMemories.com before too as they have a large Disney selection but as you say it's no good for this trip as it costs a fortune to ship the order to the UK.

:rainbow: It's a small world after all ... you have already used Scrapyourtrip and donaldcp used to work there :teeth:

I'm not sure what we will do yet. I didn't realize it was a 17 Hour drive!!! :scared1:

17 hours? That's how long it takes us to drive to Disneyland and I can't say we ever think about just popping down for the weekend  In fact we have only ever driven once ... and that was enough :rolleyes1

I thought that seemed a little ambitious for two days. I would be all for it myself it was not a 20 hour drive. I thought, wow, you guys are really huge Disney fans for that drive. ha ha ha. We were in Disney 4th of July one year. We had a good time, but it was so hot and so crowded. I don't think I would do it again. Now New Years Eve, that was another story. Still hot and crowded, but so worth it. If you guys do decide to go, have a great time. Say hi to Mickey for me.

I liked to meet in the promenade lounge. I look forward to see you all in real.

Let me just say right now. The second my foot steps on that ship I will relax and feel on vacation. I don't care if we sail at 4pm or midnight. :cloud9: Now if you want the vibration to feel like we are moving then maybe those people that threatened the riverdancing can start early to make the deck your on vibrate!:rotfl:

:lmao::lmao: I just like being on deck and waving away at anything that moves. After all it is our special time sailing away.;) I don't care about vibration, but if they want to dance then they should!!!:rotfl2:

Could anyone tell me how VAT was handled on the WB last year??

On the ebta, we were not charged VAT, but as soon as the Med cruise started (we were on B2B) it was added to most ship purchases. I think it was a smaller percentage on beverage purchases than it was for the gift shops, but was even added to SPA stuff & Palo, etc. This was because we were considered sailing entirely in european waters, I guess.

Just wondering, since we begin in Spain, is it charged in the beginning? Or maybe (hopefully) not at all??!! :cool1:

Thanks for any info!!
