Happy Birthday Jess.

Pat, I have no advice to offer about the FE lists. We have a couple of things that we are planning to deliver on day 1 that we found helpful on other cruises (can't say what they are though)! And then a few other things that we are delivering throughout the cruise. I do have some age specific gifts (particularly for the kids) so even if I'm not in "that" group, I will give those items anyway as I picked them up for an infant in mind or for a young teen girl.

Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Karen

Hello everyone :wave2:

Just subscribing to this thread, first time cruisers so there will be plenty of questions to follow

Welcome aboard. We are Tony and Sandy from Northern California sailing on our 7th cruise. Ask away as the group is great and very helpful.

I haven't posted a list of DIS cruisers yet. I am finalizing the tours both East and West and hope to have all the the information up by next week.

I'm confused:confused3; are you planning an East and West tour?

Last year, we did more of a south/central route, incl. Nun's Valley (private taxi tour). This year, I'm perplexed as to whether East or West would be better. Madeira is such a beautiful island, I want to see the nicest scenery possible, esp. since three of our party have never been there.

Anyone out there who has done both and can comment?

Hi! It's my first post, but I just wanted to say thanks to PFlamingo for the link to marinetracker.com. I was using a different tracker, but this one is so much better.

BTW, I'm JessicasMom's other half. Can't wait to meet everyone onboard.

And you're quiet welcome for the link. I got it from the PassPorter boards.

I looked at the Magic just now and she did that little spin in a circle thing again, on the way to Villefranche. They really need to take the joystick away from Goofy.

Pat, PM on the way for FE. :)

Aw, thanks everyone! :lovestruc And if I missed someone here, whoops! Cake for all! :cake:

As for that sangria at Chuys.... mmmm, I may just have to do that.

Welcome to the DIS. :welcome:

Hope you had a lovely day.

I couldn't survive with just that amount of shoes for 2 weeks. ;)

I know I always am, it seems that we always have a while to go then it comes around so quickly and we're never ready. :lmao:

Plus there is the whole having to clean the house from top to bottom before I go...what is up with that?? :confused3

Shoes ..... haven't decided yet as it will all depend on which dresses I decide to take, and that will decide on how much weight I manage to lose. I expect a last minute decision / dilemma this time. I am never readt either, especially last year when we only decided we were going about an hour before we left the house because of health issues. I always aim to clean the house, but there is always a last minute panic :scared1:

I am with you on the clean house. My house has to be immaculate before I leave. I want to come home to a clean house so I can just pass out and unpack the next day!!

I so wish I could do this. If I start now, maybe it would be a possibilty :rotfl2:

that would be lovely to come home to a nice clean house, but my 18 year old son is staying home so there is no chance off that, :rotfl2:

Likewise .... my son will be here and no doubt will invite his mates round etc etc ..... I'll be lucky to have a house left. Luckily his grandmother will be keeping a close eye.

I always have that on my list, but it rarely gets done, because I'm always running around on the last few days .. tying up loose ends, pulling stuff out of closets because I need to take "it" with me, but can't find "it" anywhere :rotfl: :rotfl: By the time we leave the house it almost looks like a bomb hit it.

This is exactly me ... and this time I may be working all week until the day we leave, which will really make things difficult.

Okay, so I started playing around with the lists. Here's the first thing - so far 6 cabins (11 people) have indicated they want to be on all lists. So roughly one-third of the cabins (or one-fourth of the people, if you go by number of people) will be repeated on each list.

The one-list-only-please people are easy to work in.

The "maybe's" are the tricky bit. How about this: If you want to be on more than one list (one list = approx. 18 cabins or approx. 45 people), decide on the total number of cabins or individuals you would want to gift, PM me that info, and I'll work out how many lists you would be on. If you're doing 1-gift-per-room, I need total number of rooms. If you're doing one-per-person, I need total number of people. If you were a "maybe" and you want to switch to the one-list camp (or the all-lists camp), let me know that, too. Each list will have at least one cabin with kids. I'm trying to distribute those evenly across the lists.

Don't think in terms of how many lists you should be on. Because of us "repeaters," 2 lists would not be 36 cabins. It would more likely be 25-30 total cabins. (Does that make sense? It made sense a couple of drinks ago.)

I'm going to get another drink. :drinking1 ;)

Thank you so much for all your hard work on this Pat ... you are a star. I did the FE organising on my first cruise and I know how stressful it can be. The drink should always help ;)

:welcome: the group, what a fun way to start out cruising, taking a 14 nighter. Our first cruise was 10 nights and let me warn you .. it's hard to take the shorter cruises after that

I know what you mean .... we have done a 7 and a 10, but I don't think I could do any shorter than a 7.

Aw, thanks everyone! :lovestruc And if I missed someone here, whoops! Cake for all! :cake:

Welcome to the DIS Jess .... hope you had a great birthday :thumbsup2

I now have a mental image of Mickey and Goofy fighting for control of the ship :rotfl2:

Wow...so many posts to catch up on since last night!!!

We are lucky to have a spare room where we organize all the trip clothing. All of it hung in the closet or in the dressers until we pack it into the cases. After as many times as we travel, we have this pretty much down to a science but we are still human and do forget things!!

I just make lists of what goes in each case and put a copy in a zip-lock bag so I know how to repack!! Any extras we pick up along the way have to fit into the extra bag I bring along for those purchases. If I have time, I make a list of those purchase to put in the extra bag.
:worship:I would love your house Noel & the way you are so organised.
Sounds like we are taking the exact same shoe mix :rotfl2:
LOL's Dan - I take it your not the same size as me and you don't want to share:goodvibes
Wow a lot of catching up to do!

Happy birthday Jess!

Noel- I can't believe how organized you are with your packing. I wish I could be like that :worship:

You ladies and all your shoes sound like my SIL. I pack 1 pair fit flops, 1 pair tennis shoes, 1 pair dress shoes and for this trip probably an extra pair of fit flops. In fact usually when James and I go on a 7 night we share a suitcase. I definitely need to get some tips from you ladies about packing. :goodvibes
Wow Lauren, even when DH & I were on our 3 day we had to huge suitcases each...you will have to give us some tips on packing :worship: :goodvibes

When I grow up, I want to be just like you Noel :thumbsup2

So do I............Oh, I already am grown up and older than Noel!!!:rolleyes1:lmao:

Shoe Queens - I may be bringing a total of 3 pairs, and HOPE nobody steals sandals while we are in the pool on the ship! Those will duplicate as my flip flops. I think DD1 will have two pairs total, and the baby has yet to wear shoes. On one cruise, we were literally the cabin right inside the door from the pool on the pool deck. I don't think I ever even had to wear shoes to the pool, as we were literally two steps from our door to the deck door. And believe it or not, it was an incredibly quiet cabin.

Perhaps we should have a shoe borrowing group!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Aveda makes some wonderful travel containers that never leak called Refillables. You can pick them up at any Aveda salon & then decant into those.

I can't pack that few shoes, but I don't pack 13 pairs either - I'm somewhere in the middle with 7 pairs usually. And that is my bare minimum! :rotfl:

I will check out those containers. I have had a few leakages over the years with the ones I get.

7 pairs of shoes seems perfect, but no way could I manage that!!!:lmao:

i think goofy had the joystick a lot yesterday lol, the boat was going all over the place :rotfl2:

Chris/Jeremy & Dan - Pub crawl query!!!!

I just noticed the date of the Magic Pub Crawl (16th) is the 7th night of the cruise which someone mentioned previously will probably be the 2nd formal night....do you think this will clash?

I'm guessing that many of us attending the pub crawl are on late dining, my plan was to either skip the rotational dinner & eat at Topsiders or go to the rotation restaurant but eat fast and skip dessert....whereas with the Formal meal in my experience it is a slower paced meal.

What do you guys think? If you want to change the day then I don't mind switching my Champagne girls day to the 16th or 18th, freeing up the 17th for the pub crawl. Let me know your thoughts. :thumbsup2

Noel: Is there a list of who is signed up for the Madeira tour you mentioned on page 1? I have been looking through the DCL excursions and nothing is really catching my eye - I think this may be a better bet for us!

Chris - We are on this one in Madeira as we only walked around the city last time.

We only chose that day as it was free. I think as long as we are drinking sometime we are happy.

So we are happy to swap if you are. :-)

As for that sangria at Chuys.... mmmm, I may just have to do that.

I learned this week they are included in their M-F Happy Hour. I thought they were regular price, and only ordered one. When we got the bill, I told hubby I should have had another!!

I'll put you down Mary. The 11A I have on the list is my own accessible cabin.

I will be interested to see the sideways layout, especially since we gave it up!

Welcome to the DIS!! :cheer2: I can't get my other half on any message boards, but he always appreciates my summaries (and trip planning!).

They really need to take the joystick away from Goofy.

Totally the image in my head now, Pat!

Shoes ..... haven't decided yet as it will all depend on which dresses I decide to take, and that will decide on how much weight I manage to lose. I expect a last minute decision / dilemma this time.

Dresses - that's me. I joined a boot camp, and while not really losing pounds I am losing inches and body fat percentage. I wore a skirt yesterday that I don't think I have worn in quite a while. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for all your hard work on this Pat ... you are a star. I did the FE organising on my first cruise and I know how stressful it can be. The drink should always help ;)

Pat's a ROCK STAR!!!!

I know what you mean .... we have done a 7 and a 10, but I don't think I could do any shorter than a 7.

We've only done 7-nighters, and no way could we do less than 7. Seven is already too short as it is!

I can't believe how quickly these threads grow everytime I log-in:eek:

I hear ya! If you sleep, eat, or go to the bathroom, you miss a few pages of posts! Not to mention work every now and then.... :rotfl2:

I really don't mind swapping, what ever night is better for everyone. :goodvibes If people would prefer Formal night then that is good for me, I just wanted to bring it up incase it is a problem. :thumbsup2

Chris - We are on this one in Madeira as we only walked around the city last time.

We'll probably do this one too.

So it looks like we'll probably do two DIS excursions (Jost Van D in Tortola and Madeira) and the rest we'll likely do through DCL or explore on our own. Still not sure about our plans for St. Maarten - definitely want to hit Maho and see the planes - I'm a big aviation geek!
