I'm really concerned about hurricane Frances and all the damage I already see watching the weather channel.

My, DH, DS-5, DD-7, DD-9 have been planning our trip to WDW for so long, I would hate to cancel. However I don't want to go to WDW with us running around in raincoats because according to the weather.com's website it's supposed to thunderstorm 9/9-9/13...When I think of WDW, I imagine blue skies and lots of sun..

Am I being too negative...HELP?@!!

I just went 8/20 - 8/29 and when I checked the weather a head of time, it also said Tstorms almost everyday. It did probably 1/2 of the days, but that is to be expected in Florida during the summer. The Tstorms only lasted about 2 hours and they are usually in mid-afternoon, around 2:00. It just happened to cooincide with our afternoon breaks/naps so it didn't effect our trip at all.

Don't worry, go and have a great time!

It thunderstorms EVERYDAY in Florida! I wouldn't let the storms keep you away at all! People grab their ponchos and keep on going. =)

I've lived in Florida for a while now and let me tell you, it rains everyday. Always aroun 2-5 in the afternoon and usually lasts anywhere from 5-30 minutes. Try to plan nap time or time back at the hotel around those times. When I see the weather channel this time of year it shows 40-50% chance of rain everyday.

Thanks everryone for responding...

We are going, we've looked forward to this vacation for SO long..

I just packed the panchos and we are headed to see the MOUSE, (SHORTLY).

disboards members ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again......

My other suggestion is to make sure you have an extra pair of shoes. If you get caught in the downpour, it will take quite a while for your shoes to dry. We always pack an extra pair for that reason, as well as water rides!

As far as damage, Disney World has an amazing ability to bounce back!! We were there the day after Charley, and the only indication within Disney was the fact that there were a few trees pulled up, that they just couldn't get out of there fast enough. Disney was like a small island-- you watched the news and heard of all these horrible things going on, but you wouldn't know it on property. They even reported that the was no gas for miles-- yet, there was some gas on property!

I'm in FL right now. I am from Michigan and have saved and planned for this trip for almost a year. My BF and I are staying at his parent's house this week on the gulf side...just north of Tampa. Its raining and windy right now but nothing too spectacular just yet! We were originally scheduled to arrive at WDW yesterday afternoon after driving down from Michigan but decided on Thursday to switch our trip around and come over to this side of the state first and do disney next weekend instead. We are now scheduled to be there from 9/10-9/14. We're going. I've done disney in the rain and downpours before with my family and as long as you come prepared and keep your spirits up, there's no reason not to go! As long as Ivan stays out to sea until after next weekend and Frances makes her exit in the next few days, I'll be at MK by the weekend!!! Hopefully everyone stays safe over there and WDW shoud be okay...they're built to withstand most of this !

You have to do what's right for you and your family but my decision is to go unless something drastic happens between now and then.

Also remember that WDW is so large that it can pour in one section of the property and not the other (typical summer, not hurricanes). We were staying in the Fort Wilderness Cabins. DH stayed back at the cabin and I took my two nephews to AK for the afternoon. It rained so hard that we were stuck, and had to wait it out with CM's at the Lion King Show. After about an hour we decided to run (slosh) back to the bus. When we got to the cabin we were all soaked. Some of us had extra shoes, others did not. DH said "it didn't rain here!"

sunkissed212 , maybe i'll see you, wear your lime green..

We'll be there 9/11-9/18, i'm excited...we were supposed to go to Daytona Beach on 9/17 (Friday),but we may just detour to Universal Studios..

Thanks to everyone for being so positive, I really needed that...prplcrzy-and I will back extra shoes, great idea.

Thanks again..

Hate to burst your bubble....

Forecasters are keeping an eye on Hurricane Ivan lurking in the Atlantic. Ivan may have an affect on Florida.

Trust me ,i'm still watching the weather channel and logging on to the weather updates..........praying it slows down or changes direction....

Thanks!

Yes Florida is just like any tropical area in summer, it rains some days not others and sometimes a bit every day....Rare is the day it rains all day long this time of year ( except for hurricanes of course). We have been there many Septembers and have never had any real problems with rain...just go and enjoy!!!....:sunny:

Blueberry

It's just like in Texas, today the news predicated thunderstorms, it's be sunny all day and dry!

Thanks, i'm looking forward to it!!

I am planning on being at the parks from the 10th to the 13th. Keeping an eye on IVan but if I can catch the flight out I will be there. My flight leaves at 6 am and will arrive in Fl at 9 am, just before they predict Ivan to hit.
But this will be my last trip for possibly a long time. I have surgery scheduled for Sept 30th for a total mastectomy and chemo starts on October 20th. I need my last trip to WDW before I go through Hell and back, and need a few Margaritas to get me through. Peggie

Peggie, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go thru your surgery and chemo. I don't know if you remeber me but you were so nice to send my oldest dd some pins after we forgot to get a 100 yrs pin after a 2002 trip. You sent her the nicest letter which she still has.I hope and pray that Ivan stays a way so you can get you Disney fix before you go thru your surgery. April

Peggie,

Enjoy your trip to WDW, i've rescheduled for Oct 2-9...My DH didn't want to take the chance......

I pray that our Precious Lord, send his angels to your side during your surgery and chemo. Keep your head up and trust in HIM..

Take care,

Jessica

ohhh and have a margarita for me!!!!!!!!
