When I was a little girl, I used to spend the day in the pool in our backyard. My mother taught me how to swim. She spent forever teaching me how to float on my back! Once I got the hang of floating on my back, I loved it. LOL! :p But once I learned how to swim, housework, meals, sewing etc. called my mom away from the pool. She would never swim with me, but that gave me the opportunity to pretend I was a mermaid, or make a whirlpool etc.

At lunch time my mom would call me over to the back door. She'd hand me a little brown paper bag with my lunch in it. It was usually half a sandwich wrapped in wax paper and a plum, or a peach or an apple. I'd take my picnic lunch and walk over to the picnic table with my dog and eat my lunch in the sun, kicking my legs under the table, thinking I was all grown up. :p In the afternoons my mom would often dig through the "junk drawer" to find me a dime for a fancy ice cream or a nickel for a Dixie Cup from the Good Humor man. She'd either call me wildly, "Maggie! Hurry! Here he comes!" or she'd sit on the curb with me and we'd play "footsie" until he drove around the block.

I'm 46 now, and it wasn't until about 3 years ago that my mother told me she is terrified of water and has no idea how to swim, that's why she never swam with me. She faced her fears long enough to make sure I knew how to swim and float so I would always be safe around water. :) :)

I mostly remember her taking care of me when I was sick. She'd let me lay in her bed with a portable TV. Sometimes now when I'm sick, I wish I was still a little girl curling up next to my mom so she would keep me safe. :lovestruc

Doing dishes. We didn't have a dish washer, so she would wash and I would dry. We had a kitchen with a door and we would close it and just the two of us would talk, sing, laugh. For that time I had my mom to myself and I loved it.

Sitting on the livingroom floor, in our curlers (you know, those ones that I swear were made of metal about 30 years ago), eating popcorn and watching TV. Her arm is around me and we are smiling.

I ran across this picture after she died. I need to go get it framed sometime. I think I had to have been about 4. I loved my mom putting rollers in my hair because then I could have curls like her. She had the most beautiful hair and it was always looking nice. That was the hardest thing for me to deal with when she was on chemo - her losing her hair.

Being the youngest of 7 it was hard to get any "alone" time with my mom. My most favorite memories are long drives we would take just the 2 of us. I can still remember which places we went. She used to love going to all the lift locks to see the boats going thru.
My mom passed away 13 yrs ago this year. My mother also had a fear of water but loved to look at it. She almost drowned as a child. She made sure we all knew how to swim as well!
I miss her so much and make sure I spend special time with each of my boys so they will have fond memories to look back on.

When I was about 5, I was next door playing and it was getting close to dinnertime. It was a Friday night and my friend's mom was making him Pancakes for supper! I never had pancakes for supper, not ever. I ran home and begged and pleaded with my mom, could we please have pancakes for supper too? I thought that was awesome! My mom in seeing how excited I was said ok and proceeded to make us pancakes for supper. I will never forget that. It sticks with me. It was such a simple little thing but it made me so happy at the time!

I have so many loving memories of my Mom, I can't think of any one that stands out above the others. We laughed alot and still do and I'm sure when she goes, that's what I will miss about her the most.:D

mine is in my tag, but I'll post it again. In 1992 (WOW, IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME....) Mom and I spent New Years Eve at the MK w/ my aunt and cousin. We got there just after open, and stayed til colse at 215 am. From about 1230 am until we left, I reose Space Mountain over, and over, and over, and.... while my poor, devoted mother camped out on 2 chairs in Tomorrowland (shivering all the while in the 30-40 degree weather with only shorts and a jacket on) so I could ride til my heart was content

I'll never forget it,

My dad died when I was 8 so for most of my life my mom has been both a mom and a dad. I have so many good memories growing up but I think it's the little thing that I hold closest to my heart. Even though she taught school full time and had 4 of us to take care of she was always there when it really matter. Whether it was a little league game or a school function she some how managed to juggled all our schedules. I only have one child and I also have DH - there are many times that I wonder how she managed it all.

My mom really did alot for our family. When our finances were really bad, even with my dad working she went to work while all her friends stayed home.

She always took my sister and I to dance and swimming classes anc church activities.

I had to have many surgeries at hospitals far away and she always had to be there for me.

She had to wait on me hand and foot for 9 months while I was confined to bed.

She was a good listener. She showed me what it meant to put your family first instead of thinking of yourself. She also showed me not to give up when things are really tough. I didnt see it them, but when I was really sick I see how our relatives never hardly offered to watch my sister, cook something etc. I really see how much was on her shoulders.

She taught me how to be thoughtful and think of others, like calling someone or sending a card etc. She is not with me anymore but I treasure everything she taught me.

I remember my mom teaching me to read. Even before Kindergarten. She would sit with me and a workbook that had activities that taught you to read. I remember loving those little "sessions" so much. I've always been a strong reader, and I'm sure those lessons are the reason why.:D
