I am busy planning our first trip to WDW. I so appreciate all the info everyone shares here. At times I feel overwhelmed, but feel so lucky to have so many expert tips, etc from you all.

I woke early this morning with a worry. I am kind of embarrassed to ask, but need to know. I am a plus-sized woman. Are the rides at Disney a problem for a larger sized person? I want to be able to ride things with my children and be able to see the wonder they experience firsthand and have them experience it with me. Are there weight limits, etc? Any rides/attractions to particularly avoid? I would need to be able to ride with one of my two children - ages 3 & 5(when we will go).

I have been so excited planning this trip for my little ones and I want it to be very special. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Carol

My hubby and I are able to ride just about everything together! (he's not a big guy) Dumbo can get a little tight with both of us, but with a child it should be no problem.
I guess that my best advice to you is not to worry. We go and have a great time, and for the most part it is never an issue!
Have fun!:D

Here is a link to a page on Deb's website (a great WDW planning website): http://wdwig.com/ridsiz.htm . It covers exactly what you talking about. No need to worry. You and your family will have a wonderful time!

Welcome to the DIS!

I'm also a plus-sized woman. You're going to have a great time at WDW!

I never thought to ask here about my concerns! Was just fretting silently! I am now feeling alot better about that aspect of our trip thanks to the helpful replies! Have a great visit,
Michelle

Hey the last time I was anything like slim was when I got married (almost 15 years ago!), I had absolutely no problem with anything at Disney and I was riding with a 7 year old. Enjoy yourself.:D

Well, haven't you all just made my day?!! Thank you for your replies. Done worrying and back to planning. Thank you again!

Blessed mom, I am a 6'3" 270 lb. man with broad shoulders and big feet. Other than knocking my knees justa bit on BTMRR, I've never run into a problem being comfortable on any attraction. I almost always ride with either my 6yo or 3yo by my side. Worry not! You'll have a great time

BlessedMomOfTwo Welcome to the DIS, I'm really glad that you found us.

As you can see, we have a lot of helpful and very friendly people here on the DIS and now you are included in that number.

I, too, am "pooh sized" and I have never had a problem riding any of the rides at WDW. I'll send you a pm and tell you my top weight, before I took the WISH challenge, I'm smaller now :)

I hope you enjoy planning your trip :)

Hi!
I don't think you'll have a problem either--most of the ride vehicles are roomy and comfy. I am not + sized, but amd very tall--the only ride I would consider passing on is the Barnstormer--the kiddie coaster in Mickeys Star Land in MK.

My DH and I took our 5 year old nephew 2 years ago, and it was his favorite ride. My husband rode it once, and not again, because the seat was way too small--he is a 6ft, average sized guy. I am close to 6ft, and was able to wedge myself in with our nephew--but it was a tight fit--my knees touched the seat in front, and my size 12 buns *just* fit my 1/2 of the seat. COnsiderig the age ofyour little ones, I though thtis might apply.
That is the absolute only one I can think of, and it may be more of a heigth thing, I just remember riding it about a dozen times, and I was never able to get comfy (but our nephew sure loved it!)

I am a plus size woman and had no problems riding ANYTHING at DISNEY!!! My dh is 6'4" and average size with very broad shoulders!! We were able to ride together with no problems!!!!

Just wanted to say welcome. My husband is rather broad shouldered (everyone who sees him wants to know what pro team he played football for), and he has never had a problem. I always put him with one kid and I sit with the other. It works and when we rode together, I never felt crowded. You will have a wonderful time.

I'm a big girl...beyond Pooh, think Ursula the sea witch. :)

I have no problems with anything at WDW except the turnstiles in HM and PotC. You need to shimmy through those, but otherwise you should have no problems. There are many rides that I can ride with both my regular sized husband and 9 year old son.

You're good to go! You shouldn't have any problems at all while there. but, since this is your first visit, might I give you a suggestion? There is a ride in AK called Count Down To Extinction. It is a ride through dinosaur time. This ride can be very jerky. My friend and I went on this ride together. She's tall- 5'10 and I have a slight back problem. Her knees hit the front of the car (we were in the front seat) and my back was hurting pretty bad by the time I got off this ride. I have since ridden anywhere but the front seat and it did not jerk me around as much as it did when I was in the front.
BTW- this friend and I are both pooh sized and we rode all these rides together- you'll be just fine for room.

I am not skinny by any means but I can tell you one thing, I do not remember of any places that you may have a problem riding at WDW, I always ride with one of my kids, although now they are starting to want to go on their own and sometimes I just ride right behind them. Never had a problem , so please stop worrying and start enjoying your planning and most important your trip!! Have a great one!!

Welcome to the DIS :)

You will be just fine! Have a magical time with your kids!

Welcome to the DIS, BlessedMomOfTwo.

I am 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and 328 lbs. I've been able to ride every single ride that I wanted to ride at MK, Epcot, MGM, and AK. I don't like the shaking rides like Star Wars to much, but I still love to ride it at least once every trip.

Maybe some rides like MK's Space Mountain is much more roomier in the front row than in the other rows because of he shape of the coaster thing. But I've enjoyed MK's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, etc. Even Dumbo, Pooh.

You'll have a great time at all of the park rides. You'll be amazed how comfortable you'll feel around everyone at WDW.

Have a wonderful vacation.

Ray :)

Welcome to the DIS!

We've never had a problem on the rides at WDW. A few of the turnstiles you might have to turn sideways to go though comfortably.

Have a great trip!
