Sensitive question for the ladies please

My 16 yo gd is having a hard time finding a bikini top to fit her. She's endowed with a dd chest, and the rest of her is slim. Every top she likes seems to be padded..she sure doesn't need that. Where do you ladies, that are that size 34dd, find tops that aren't padded? She's pretty miserable right now.

Try Land's End. Not the most "youthful" of bathing suit styles but I wear a DD (not a 34 but still a DD) and they fit me well, plenty of coverage with no squishing or hanging out but they are also low cut enough that I won't have a bikini line showing with my Ts, tanks and sun dresses. The cups in most of their bathing suits are removable so the padding doesn't have to be there if you don't need it.

Kohl's had some nice tops in the women's dept. and they were supportive but not dowdy and not padded (just lightly lined). You may want to consider visiting a specialty shop that sells swimsuits as they will have a better selection and offer a variety of styles and sizes.

Athleta. You can buy tops separately, returns are free. Padding is light or you can remove it.

Land's End - I've bounced between 32D and 34DD, from weight changes, and LE fit me well at all sizes.

Another Lands End recommendation. We've been pleased with every swimsuit we've ordered -- most recently, DD11's one-piece. She's in misses sizes but can't do padding. She's really happy with it.

My poor DD (17) is the same way.

We found a really nice swimsuit at a (speciality) swimsuit store. It wasn't cheap, but she was able to get something that fit.

Land's End! I'm a DD, and it is impossible to find a swimsuit top that is large enough in the chest. Land's End has a selection of tops and one-piece suits you can order in D, DD, and DDD sizes. I have the scoop tankini top and it fits great!

Yeah, Land's End would work but they're not so trendy like what her friends would have.

I found that buying like a halter style or triangle style that you tie at the neck and back, in like an XL, would work for enough coverage. Of course this only works with separates because an XL bottom would be huge. These are not always easy to find, because a lot of the suits have the "clips" and don't tie in one spot or the other. Oh, and a lot of the ones I found that are this style, if they do have padding it is usually removable. I bought several suits like this at Target in years past, cheap and lots of cute ones and variety. You just have to get over the fact that you have an XL top on.

Macy's does sell a few suits that are bra sizing tops. Not so cheap, but when you can find something that actually fits in an actual store... oh god it is amazing.

I just always found it really hard to buy a suit without trying it on. I hate swimsuit shopping to this day, but once I find one I love, well, I LOVE it!

ETA: I just wanted to add, that I've found suits at various stores through the years. JCPenney, Macy's, Target, Aeropostale, and Old Navy are the last 5 places I've bought suits at. I usually get a few each year. You just have to have persistence and try on everything you like, but also be aware that the majority of them are not going to work.

My DD18 has the same trouble and I can tell you there's no way she even try on anything from Lands End. Since that's where I get MY suits, I don't guess they're very trendy for the teens.

The XL tops from Target etc are not large enough for her.

We've had great luck Venus online. Try this link: http://www.venus.com/products.aspx?BRANCH=24~87~&PAGE=99999 and then look at the ones called "full cut bra". DD has several of these from last year.

This year she found her favorite suit ever. It's a body glove suit and if you google "body glove DD" I think you'll be able to find it online. She bought it in a local swim shop.

I am not a size DD but I am a large C. Here in the DC area we have a store called Everything But Water. I love being able to go in there and pick out my separate tops and bottoms. I also hate the extra padding in bras and swimsuits. I have never had trouble finding a swimsuit without the extra thick padding... just enough for modesty when I'm cold if you get what I mean. They even have a website. I have one like this only it's chocolate brown with white trim.

I found a large selection at my local Macy's with "cup-sized" bikini tops. The best brand for me was Profile by Gottex. They sell quite a variety and the cup sizing is amazing!

I assume it's for shaping, which not everyone needs of course. Bras, swimsuits...anything that directly involves fitting "the girls"...are so hard to shop for.

I don't have any other suggestions than what others have mentioned, but good luck to your DD on her swimsuit hunt!
