My daughter is interested in going on her college’s graduation trip to Disney World next spring. We have gone to Disney several times a year for over a decade so she has her own MDE account. She also uses DAS. How does this typically work for group trips like this - will there be a way she can link the trip to her own MDE so she can use her magic band, purchase genie plus, get her DAS, etc? The person she spoke to at her school didn’t seem overly knowledgeable about all this so I thought I would try her. (She will try to speak with someone else at the school to get more info, but in the meantime, any insight will be welcomed)

Maybe. It seems many of the group trips lately have not been able to link anything in advance. Most of those have been youth or high school groups. It probably depends on how the college books it — is it a special package and students book that package through the school? Or they just sign up and the school makes all reservations for the whole group?

My daughter went with a high school trip with the music program this year. She did not get her ticket until she got there (they had said they'd send them out ahead of time to link but it never happened- not sure if it was a Disney issue or the chaperones not getting time to do it), but she was able to link it to MDE once she had it. The issue we ran into is since she's not 18, she couldn't purchase Genie+ and since I'm linked to her and not her friends, I couldn't do it for the group from home, either. If your daughter won't be 18, I'd have her make a separate account for this trip only and say she's over 18 on the account, then she should be able to purchase it. One of my daughter's friends put they were over 18 on their account and so they were able to book some ILL for the group. It was too much for me to try to coach them on Genie+ in the moment so we just let it go and they had a blast standing in line, etc, anyway.

I was thinking she may need to wait to link until she’s actually there. I believe it’s a special package and they have to sign up through the school to get it, there is limited space.

This is a college graduation trip so she will be 22, so at least that part is good. But it is sounding like she will have to wait until there to link everything. My daughter is like me and prefers to be organized and prepared ahead of time, oh well.

Also I would note that with using DAS she may not be able to take anyone else with her for her DAS return times. We use DAS and we are only allowed to use it for immediate family members. I don't know it that matters to her splitting up from the group.

DAS should allow her a party including up to 5 friends. Relationship should not matter, but they will need to be linked as a Friends & Family in her MDE. In your situation, maybe the additional people you wanted to include put it over the max group of 6? They won’t usually make an exception for a larger group that isn’t 1 family unit.

I missed the college part! Hope she has fun! my daughter is the same way and really wanted everything linked and set up ahead of time but she managed to have a blast. :)
