Senior Prank - what do you think

But do you not understand how a group of 17 and 18 year olds would think they had permission since the school board member let them? How are they supposed to know that the school board member isn't allowed to do that?

Why the assumption that I don't understand, because I have a different opinion?
They broke school rules, doesn't matter what they thought.

The punishment for the students... maybe clean up the post it notes but I can't think of anything worse.

For the janitor, if they knew the school board member gave them access he would then assume they had permission... and then he supervised them so they did nothing really wrong... commendation for the janitor.

School board member was kind of dumb because I can think of many other things the kids COULD have done with the access to the school that would have been much worse so unless he went and supervised asking him to resign is ok IMO.

I'm with you.
*Cleanup for the kids.
*Nothing for the janitor. (How are they supposed to know who belongs? Ours are contracted through an outside vendor, they would have no idea who belongs and who does not. :confused3)
*School Board member should NOT have given out a key to students. Just a really bad call. You never give out the key to a public facility/business/etc to anyone who doesn't have clearance. Yikes!

The punishment was for trespassing, not just the prank itself.

But the students DID NOT TRESSPASS! They were on property with two adults, one of whom used the key to let them into the building! It is quite reasonable for a high school kid to assume that if a member of the school board and a school staff member say it's OK to be on school grounds, that it is, in fact, OK to be on school grounds.

If they had broken a window or snuck in somehow I would maybe understand, but they didn't! They asked for, and received, help from a school board member to legitimately go into the school building.

I think senior pranks are stupid and immature.

I think the punishment should stand. I don't think the janitor should be in trouble if the school board member was there.

I think the kids should have to remiburse for the cost of the supplies they wasted

First of all, if they broke a window and went in that would be breaking and entering, and the punishment for that would probably be greater.
It doesn't matter that a group of 17 and 18 year olds were ignorant to the fact that they weren't supposed to be there, they were there, unauthorized by the proper people. One school board member doesn't get to make those decisions on their own. That is why there is a "board". So, yes they were in fact trespassing.

that has to be the most harmless prank I have ever heard of!!!!! I commend them!!!!

Of course, they should not be punished harshly. Punishment needs to fit the crime. Kids need to let go every once in a while and as long as pranks are harmless, who cares!!!

I don't agree with anyone being asked to resign, being reprimanded or being suspended. These kids didn't cause any kind of lasting damage, it was a fun, clean prank that would be easy to clean up. Much better than some pranks I've heard of.....I wish more of our kids could be creative like that instead of destructive.

Way to suck even more fun out of going to school. These kids did nothing wrong but have a little (clean) fun. With what most seniors are doing these days (both in and out of school), they should be awarded for being good kids.

I completely agree! That is ridiculous anyone got in trouble.
Political correctness gone amuck.

Well, yeah...they are high school kids. It's one of the last times in their life when they can be care free.

They hurt nobody and didn't cause permanent damage.

People need to lighten up. I can't believe how, what's the word, prude people have become.

I do not agree with pranks not because they are not funny but because of the consequences.

That being said, I think the charge of trespassing is something that they could dispute since they had a KEY.

As a PP said that is NOT a B&E.

Too bad for the students.:guilty:

That is right, people need to lighten up. More and more people should not care about the expectations of kids having consequences for their actions. Let all of us parents whine and cry that our little snowflake gets in trouble when they do something they shouldn't. Better yet lets hold a protest!

I'm really thankful that there are some of us left out there to be "too PC" or "prudes" :thumbsup2

Gosh! I would actually commend the students for making the art with post-its instead of using something else, like spray paint! I think that a "respectful" prank like this one should be used as an example of the kinds of things seniors should do for fun!

Honestly, if I were superintendant, I would make it an "organized" part of senior activities! It would become an annual tradition, where every year seniors would try to make their art better than the seniors the year before!! I've actually seen full murals made out of post-it notes, and they're spectacular!! :thumbsup2

Those officials are just sticks in the mud!!
:thumbsup2 Nuff said. Let it go!!

Oh please. Did I say they shouldn't have gotten in trouble? Their parents can punish them however they want.

I'm just one of those people who didn't forget that I was a teenager once too.

No, you just mentioned people should lighten up and how "prude" people have become. Sorry that you don't like a little "right back at you" attitude for that comment. So um you can oh please yourself :rolleyes1

The punishment was for trespassing, not just the prank itself.

They didn't trespass. They had permission from a school board member. They asked for access, they were given access. If the school board has a problem with giving students access after hours, then they need to take that up with the adult that did that. The kids did what was appropriate. They wanted to pull a harmeless prank, they asked for permission and recieved permission.

The person at fault is the school board member.

Ok so who could have let them in that would be "authorized". If the school board member has a key (and I really don't understand why he/she would have had a key in the first place), then that person is authorized to unlock the door and have access to the school and as such, he/she allowed the students that same access.

What these kids did was harmless. The punishment is ridiculous.

Yes, I did. I do think people have become prude. So? You think they should be punished, I and the majority of the posters on this thread so far, think they shouldn't be.

Sorry you can't take the fact that people don't agree with you. :confused3

I'm with the lighten up folks. Geeze it was a harmless prank! I don't think anyone should be punished and I mean anyone from the school board on down.

I think it is kinda cute. My DD's class zip tied everything they could get their hands on, including the teachers scissors. And since they were't allowed knives any more..........

Too much time for the crime. These are KIDS. If my kid was busy drawing smiley faces with post it notes rather than making meth, I'd be okay with that!!! I'd buy Office Depot out of Post-Its!! No harm, no foul. School board member is an idiot.
Now I have to ask the teenager what were the senior pranks this year. Maybe. Depends on what mood she's in today.
