Sending packages home from Alaska

Has anyone mailed packages home from Alaska?
Are the post offices in port close to the ship?
Do regular flat-rate box fees apply to lower 48?

I don't know about where the post offices in the ports are, however I live in Alaska and it costs the same to ship things as anywhere else. No extra fees and flat rate boxes cost the same.

I shipped my ulu knife home instead of having to deal with security issues. I shipped it in a USPS flat rate priority box that was free right in the PO. Rates were the same as home. It did take a bit to get home, but it arrived fine. Our DCL Alaska cruise was the special 9 night one that included a stop in Sitka. It was Sitka that I did it and the PO was right there about a block from the ship drop off. Very easy. Unfortunately that's the only time DCL went to Sitka, which is too bad as it was our favorite port! I never looked for a PO in any of the other ports but I am sure you could find the location on the USPS website.

I hope you told Disney it was your favorite port! Sitka needs the ships!

That said, there is a PO in downtown Juneau as well, which would make it close to the port.
