DISers here is your mission:

The participants: Me - 36; DBF - 37; DD - 14.

Dates: June 17 or 18 - June 21.

The budget: Approximately $1000.

The destination/plan: You decide.

I really think we need to get away for a few days so I've been tossing around the idea of a mini-vacation. BUT I have no idea where to go.

I've eliminated WDW this go 'round. When we go back I want to make it a week long vacation; not a quick weekend.

I would like something semi-relaxing but also something that won't bore DD to tears. I want UP and DOWN time.

IDEAS!?!?!?

I was going to suggest a beach getaway, but I see in your ticker that you're headed for Hawaii.:beach:

Niagra Falls area is beautiful that time of year. I know several hotels on the Canadian side that are usually inexpensive and great. The only thing is you need a passport now:(

Washington DC is always a fun weekend getaway plus most things in the area are free to do like the Smithsonian, zoo, etc.

Boston is a great weekend city too! Lots of history and walking tours. Also you can take a quick day trip to Salem and Plymouth Rock for a fun out of the city day.

Pack up your car and face it head-first out of your drive-way, and get a 50-cent piece or a dollar coin. Flip it. Heads are right-turns and tails are left-turns.

You get to decide where to stay based on who has vacancies.

How about Williamsburg/Busch Gardens.

That was going to be my suggestion. There is a lot to do in that area. You can take a picnic over at Jamestown too.

How about Wolf Trap? They usually have some kind of theater or concerts going on.

Virginia Beach.

Assateague.

Outer Banks (NC)

NYC

DBF and I have a passport but DD does not. So I guess that means Niagara Falls is out now. I had considered it earlier.

NYC is up at the top right now.

I thought about Hershey/Philly also.

We are going to either VA Beach or OC later in the summer when the water warms up.

Our summer plans are a long weekend at a beach and NYC. Hawai'i is work for me and vacation for DBF. We are staying a few extra days so I can have some fun too though.

I wish there were a Seaworld closer than FL.

NYC, Hershey or Busch Gardens would be my pick. :)

That sounds like fun! I would love to do that.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN is a great area with a lot to do that the kids will enjoy.

And the winner is......

NYC!!!!!

DBF and I were just there in December but DD has never been and we promised we would go this summer so it might as well be the first summer roadtrip.

I thought we would drive up Friday morning, sightsee in midtown, have dinner then go see The Lion King at 8:00.

Saturday, no plans; just wing it, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Ellis Island.

Sunday, breakfast, pack and the Mets game (1:10) before getting on the road.

Yea I know...so much for relaxing. lol

Don't forget that when about half the money's gone to turn back.

After my grandfather died and after my sister moved out, this is the type of vacations my parents and I would take. They were the most relaxing and we would get to see things that most people never see. My dad tended to take the back roads on these trips.

We ended up at Mt Rushmore, in Canada for a day, Milwaukee, St Louis and a multitude of other places in the several years we did these.

Hotel is booked! Yay me! We chose Double Tree on Lexington (saw another DISer was staying there. It was a great rate and one of the few hotels with double beds for a decent rate and reasonable parking.)

Wednesday - drive to Jersey; use points to stay in a hotel

Thursday - get up, drive to hotel, check in, park, head to Yankee Stadium for Yankees/Nationals Game

Friday & Saturday - touresty stuff; Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Empire State building, 5th Ave, Central Park, Museums, etc.

Sunday - Get up, eat, check out, go to Mets/Rays game, drive home.

I will be exhausted on Monday but it will be a fun long weekend. :)
