The fact that the White House is surprised by this turn of events shows just how far out of touch with reality Bush is.Rices quick confirmation by the full Senate on Thursday had been considered a formality, but Democrats who opposed the nomination were in negotiations with Senate leaders for a full floor debate and a roll-call vote. With most senators attending events surrounding Bushs inauguration Thursday, those demands could delay Rices confirmation into next week, NBC News Ken Strickland reported.
There are a number of Democrats not on the committee that want to have a chance to debate her nomination [for] a couple of hours, Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada, told The Associated Press later.
As though to highlight their protest over Rice, Manley said he expected that Democrats would quickly assent to confirmation Thursday of two other members of Bushs second-term Cabinet: Mike Johans, nominated for agriculture secretary, and Margaret Spellings, named to take over as education secretary.
The Democratic maneuver surprised the White House, which had expected to have Rice in place shortly after Bush was sworn in Thursday for his second term. A spokesman told NBC News: Its troubling to see some in the Senate want to play politics with national security.
Well, of course he was focused on Iraq and Saddam. So was Clinton. So what? That's your proof that he lied? I don't think you'd get very far with that in a court of law, and in the court of public opinon, the people spoke on Election Day. Your guys lost by pushing this "theory", remember?WWTBAMFAN said:My 17 year old DD is so very proud of Senator Boxer. She is going to sign the petition tonight also. I am also very proud of my DD.
I love the fact that the conservatives run and hide when confronted with facts. Look there is strong proof that Bush and Condi lied about WMDs being the reason for the invasion of Iraq. Both Paul O'Neal and Richard Clarke can document that Bush was focused not on the war on terror but manufucturing some reason to go after the man who tried to kill Bush's poppy.
BTW, Wolfie, the Neocon, was quoted telling the truth i.e. that WMD was just the best excuse that Bush and the neocons could come up with to invade Iraq.
Bet and dmadman, if you have proof that Bush and Condi are not lying, then please explain why Bush was focusing on invading Iraq and going after Saddam from the first days of his term? Again, Senator Boxer upheld the honor of her office by doing the right thing. Calling Condi a liar is perfectly appropriate given that Condi lied about the reason for the invasion of Iraq.
WWTBAMFAN said:The facts are that WMDs were not the reason why we invaded Iraq. If Bush was on the stand under oath and was asked the question about WMDs being the reason for the invasion of Iraq and lied, the statements of Paul O'Neal, Richard Clarke and Wolfie would be more than sufficient to impeach Bush's credibility and perhaps establish perjury.
Bet, Clinton was not stupid enough to take the country to war over non-existent WMDs. I can go pull up President Clinton's speech at the convention if you wish but I remember well that he did not agree with the invasion of Iraq and thought that Bush lied about the reasons for such invasion.
Bush and Condie lied and thousands of people died as a result. I am so proud of Senator Boxer.

If she was qualifed then why did he vote no? The guy obviously learned nothing from the ***-kicking he took during the election.

What was he shooting at, non-existent WMDs?
WWTBAMFAN said:BTW, just remember, at least when Clinton lied, no one died. You can not say the same about Bush and Condi.

Hate to burst the Republican bubble, but Bush does not have a mandate no matter how many times the rightwing talking heads claim he does.

Why are you even debating this moot point, Kylie. Rice is going to be confirmed, so what's the point of debating this?
dmadman43 said:I never said he got a Reagan style landslide. I said he got his *** kicked. I can't help it that's how your interpret that. BTW, remind me again what Kerry is doing now?
I do realize that no President since Reagan ever got a mandate. Thanks for reminding me. .

Lets not count our chickens till they have hatched okay? I expect Rice to be confirmed as well - but that does not mean that she should avoid senate questioning. Again this isn't a tea party here.
And lets keep the debates to a somewhat respectable level and not insult people's family or children.
