DD1 and DS2 would like to sell some of their clothes at Platos. Apparently some of their friends have 'made big bucks'.:confused3

Before we go through the process, wondered if you had any ideas or thoughts on it?

For example, is there a best time to go so that they get the most $$ for them, or for them to even accept them? Like is it better go end of month, beginning or middle of month? Or doesn't it matter?

TIA

Having only been there once and reading other threads, they want popular, expensive brands and don't want to pay out very much.

It doesn't matter when you go, they are looking for the best of the best & newest NAME BRANDS to stay in fashion with current trends. Try a weeknight evening, if you go when they are busy, they will give you a time to come back and they will give you an offer. I prefer to watch them go through my items, (but I have taken in 7 or 8 BOXES when I first got pregnant & got rid of all my teeny bopper & designer stuff). Out of that much stuff, I brought home maybe 1.5 boxes & only made a little over $300. Do not expect to get a ton of money for most of your stuff. They can also print you out an itemized list of what they took & what they gave you for it. Maybe $1.50 to 2.50 for a shirt & $4.00 for a pair of jeans. And please remember, if you don't like an offer for only one or two items (say something you could sell on Ebay for more) just tell them. It is not an all or none situation. And don't be surprised when they don't take things you would think they would want. Every time is a different experience. Let me know if you have any other specific questions! ;)

We've done it; DD17 has come away with about $25-30 for a bag of clothes. Not too bad :thumbsup2

They are very picky on what they take, clothes must be name brand, clean and in style, in the current season. Top brands are American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie, Victoria Secret Pink, 7 for all Mankind, North Face, Uggs, Aeropostle, etc. They will take coats, shoes, purses, etc. I've bought some Gap and Loft items in there as well. We love Plato's Closet, both my daughter and I shop there :)

Someone told me they take/sell maternity clothes. Does anyone know if thats true?

They give you 1/3 of what they will sell it for and its based on a computer database of selling prices. They are extremely picky here, ours does not take maternity clothes.

I have found that they are way too picky! I have taken in stuff that was gently used and they either wouldn't accept it or they wanted to give very little for it. IMO its not worth it.

I don't think they will take maternity clothes as they are geared towards teens/young adults. I think Once Upon A Child will take maternity

I was less than impressed with their process (owned by the same people that own Once Upon a Child). They took about 3 of the approximately 20 items we brought in, we only brought in the "best" name brand stuff. We shop there, we know what we've seen there. The stuff they gave back to us was crazy!
If you have the time to pack up the stuff and go in, wait for them to go through the stuff before you leave, then go ahead. I'd rather just donate it all to goodwill next time, not worth the hassle.
