Selling resale to buy direct 100 points

I guess it ultimately comes down to which resort you want to have an 11 month booking window at. If RIV floats your boat thanks to the beautiful rooms, skyliner and location, then everything else doesn't matter, especially if you are not in love with AKV.

As I understand it OP can already book RIV with their current resale contract

I would hold on to the current contract and consider adding on at another resort if you wanted to get a Blue Card. You could always do small contracts until you have enough points for it. Disney is offering incentives currently and will probably do so for a while. You current AKV is a good contract to hold on to in my opinion.
I agree with this. Since you already own points why not add on 25 or 50 points direct every year at a resort of your choice? If you do 50 disney makes it very easy to finance...almost too easy. We were adding on 50 points direct at CCV when it first opened and because it's so easy to finance ended up with 100....wait maybe that's a bad thing LOL. I would hold onto what you have rent the points if not using them and put the rental money towards paying for your direct points

A couple of comments about MM events. They are very restricted, so even if you have a trip planned during one of the events, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get tickets.

We were there for an AK MM two years ago and it was pouring rain. Not such a fun evening, and we ended up leaving early anyway.

I definitely don't think that it's worth it for you to sell your resale and buy direct for those perks.

One thing I want to add is that you might be served by getting a new membership in October, get the 2019 UY points by buying now.

While you will pay new membership prices you can then strip your old contract by transferring all your 2020 and 2021 points to your new contract. This will get you 2019, 2020 (x2), and 2021 (x2).

So while you lose out on the existing membership pricing you gain points. You possibly could make up a story about needing to change UY for when you travel but doubtful it would work to get the discounts.

If you already get the perk of being able to stay at new resorts, there is no way I'd give up that contract. You really won't get enough value out of a blue card to justify it, however, if your goal is to achieve that status some day, I would wait until you have the money to buy a new contract to add on to your additional contract. Then you could use all your points at future resorts. If you sell those and buy direct now and down the road you decide you want to add on you will have to buy direct or not be able to stay at the new resorts. You're never going to get that perk back once you give it up unless you pay a HUGE premium to buy direct.

So you bought at $78/point.

You would sell at say $115 / point (less the 8% commision) and re-buy at $186 a point.

So you would spend about $8000 dollars (The difference between your sale and the buy-in.) so that you could get into the occasional Moonlight Magic event? Those events are nice - but sorry not worth $8000 for even 20 of them. We have blue card privledges and have only ever timed it for one of them. We were considering timing a trip this year for one, but I sure am glad I didn't. If I were you, save your money and do one of the early morning or late night events every once in a while.

I completely agree. we also have the blue card and outside of the AP's not worth it. We attended a couple Moonlight Magic events - no big deal. I would not sell my points that I purchased at 78 pp for it. I would slowly add on direct if you really want the blue card (take the 8000 you would have spent towards buying direct and put it towatds 50 points direct - or put that towards 50 direct and fiance another 50 direct for the blue card. Overall though - do not sell your points.
