Selling / Purchasing Points

I am new to the Board & contemplating purchasing DVC - in reviewing the secondary market resales, it seems like alot of sellers have large numbers of points (300, 400, 500, 600) - is it possible to break-up an owners points - in other words, if someone has 500 points, can they only sell 100?

It depends. If the points were originally purchased all together as one contract, the answer is no. Only Disney itslef can "break up" a contract and re-package the points.

If the resale is a combination of an original contract and one or more "add ons", the owner can sell the original contract separately from the add on contracts. Each add on contract may be sold separately as well. For example, we originally purchased 200 points. Later on, we "added" 50 points. If we choose to sell, we could sell the 50 point contract separately from the original 200 point contract. We could not "break up" the 200 contract into smaller pieces, though.

Of course, the decision to separate original contracts from add on contracts is entirely up to the seller. Some will prefer to sell their entire holdings as one package.

Contracts with add ons will be listed that way so if you see a listing for x number of points, it's likely just one contract and CANNOT be split.
