Selling PS2 and games

I have my daughter's Playstation 2, along with controllers, card, and a bunch of games. I want to sell it but I'm not sure what the best way of going about it. I used to sell on ebay a long time ago but see their policies, pricing, etc has changed (for the worse). I've never sold on Craigs List and I don't know how that works.

Any suggestions?

Craigslist works like any other classifieds. You list what you have, how much, and a way to contact.

Craigslist will put up a fake email which will redirect it to your real email. That way it's not plastered out there. Just put what you have, what games, and how much you want for it all. You should get between $30-$40 for the system alone. The games can be a hit or miss. Sports titles are always a dime a dozen, and ones with continued sequels like Call of Duty, where most of the game is played online. Since sony no longer supports the online play of older titles like that, the games themselves have no value, oh and movie titles are worthless. Disney puts out a lot of these when they release a new movie, or any big hit movie.

Here and there, you can find one worth some money. Platformers, like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper, RPGs like Final Fantasy or Star Ocean, family friendly like any of the Lego Games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman), these can all be worth a few bucks a piece. Not too much, but worth it to add some more to the price.

Make sure you hook it up and test it, and put that in your listing. List all games that are included, or at least list the type of games with a few highlights. Good clear pictures are a must, don't try cell phone pictures unless you have a ton of light to make it a good picture.

We have had really good luck selling on craigslist.

My son sold his Nintendo Game Cube - game system, two controllers, memory card and about a dozen games. I think he sold the whole lot for $50. You could look on your local craigslist, or use searchtempest.com, or even ebay completed listings to see what other people are selling similar PS2 lots for.

As PP said, make sure to include good and accurate descriptions, and also good photos. When buying, I don't even click on a craigslist ad unless it has a photo. Make sure you put "cash only" in the ad.

Also, when people reply to your ad, do not repsond to generic replies such as "is this still available?". Only respond to emails that specifically mentions your item. When you reply to their email, it uses you real email address. If it is a generic email you reply to, you could end up getting lots of spam.

You can "repost" your item, meaning moving it to the top of the list, every 48 hours. Make sure you save your inititial email from craigslist that contains the link to do this. This link will also let you remove your post after your item is sold.

Always say cash only and pick up only, even if you do meet at a public location, like a fast food place down the street from you. Just means you're not delivering.

I usually get about a dozen emails the first night, most of them are spam. You'll recognize the real emails. If I'm replying to an ad, I always put "I'm interested in such and such item you have listed on craigslist. I'm available at these times to pick up. Call or email if item is still available". And try not to go for lowballers, but do list it lower than ebay prices. If you were listing on ebay there's a 10% cut off the top in fees, plus a buck or two in listing fees. So price about 20-30% lower.

And dont fall for sob stories, just reply to the emails that are interested in your item at your price.

I would imagine you could also take it someplace like Game Stop if you didn't want to spend the time with Craigslist.

Thanks, everyone, for the advice and info. I was thinking $50 also. The games aren't worth much ---- all "E" games, nothing spectacular.

I tried Gamestop and they lowballed me completely. $20 for everything! I have the console, all wires, 2 controllers, memory card, and a ton of games. GS charges $40 for the console alone. Had he offered $40, I would have sold it, but $20?? No thank you.

Depending on the games... $30-$50 for everything. If the games are nothing good, then you are really only selling the console and controllers.

I had a bunch of DH's video games on CL -- Gamecube, PS2 & Xbox and I managed to sell all of them (for $2-$3 a piece) except for the PS2 games. Didn't sell a single one of those!
