Selling plasma

If one day the govt decides that it's illegal to "sell" plasma, do you think there will be a huge drop in customers going to these centers.

The article states it's blood plasma in paragraph 2, first sentence. Some countries make it illegal to pay for plasma, including Australia. These countries have a very short supply and must pay millions to import it from other countries that do pay donors. When I hear all these stories from patients, many of them children, whose treatments require the use of plasma, I'm thankful the good ol' US of A uses common sense in this area.

I give blood as often as I'm allowed which is like every 6 months for double platelets . They give me a $10 gift card to whoever is sponsoring them at the time. I don't do it for the gift card however , I just do it because its easy to do and helps someone

You could always decline the gift card. ;)
wait what , tomorrow they are giving me one to smash burger.... Smash burger ! my gf doesn't let me eat there cause we are trying to get in shape for our first 5k at Disney.... But if I got a gift card then she has no choice but to let me go !

I just wanted to say that some good came out of this thread. After wading through this rollercoaster of a thread, I became really inspired by some of the compelling arguments on why donating blood and plasma is so important. I schedule my first donation at our local blood center and talked a number of co-workers to join me and do the same. Thank you for starting this thread!

To all the critics out there how often are you donating blood or plasma? It's desperately needed so until you are giving yours for no compensation then I think you should mind your own business.

i give three times a year at work.

your greater concern would be that government has crossed a line it shouldn't cross.

Who would EVER think to stooping to such a mundane level as to help others while at the same time making some extra cash for their trip.

Indeed. And if the $60 per week mentioned upstream is correct, that's $3,120 per year. I can take my entire family on vacation for that. That doesn't sound desperate, or "sinking low". That just sounds like a sound financial decision; one with the added benefit of providing a much needed product.

No kidding! And those doctors and nurses and caregivers and babysitters and (you get the point) who earn money to help others should be equally ashamed!
