Selling one contract to buy another. Information

Just a little information about selling contracts in order to buy other contracts at a different resort.

I have owned a HH contract for 13 years and have never stayed at HH. I have almost always stayed at OKW and only occasionally at VB.

Because I have frequently (five times) stayed in a GV at OKW, and have needed all the OKW points I could muster for the eleven month window, I sold off three somewhat stripped contracts (June 2007 points have all been used) and put the money away to buy more OKW points next year from Disney. I will get the 2007 and 2008 points if I buy before June 2008.

After the commission and the ROFR $20 fee, I will be clearing about $66 per point from my sales of VB and HH through TTS. (Commission is currently 10%)
Because I bought these contracts so long ago, this is more than I paid.

I will also be selling additional contracts to buy Contemporary Resort Villa points when and of course, if that resort is announced.

If I were selling other resorts the price would be higher, but always expect to lose some money in the exchange.

As the number of members and resorts keeps increasing, I expect that the 11 month window will become ever more important and the advice, " buy where you want to stay" will become wiser and wiser.

Eventually, I expect to have nothing except OKW points and CRV points.

Boy, you were braver than we were to calculate how much money you made (or didn't) in the buy/sell process. We did the same thing a couple years ago-sold our points at one location to buy at another location because DH really wanted to own the resort he loved-"buy where you want to stay". We didn't know if it was a good decision financially, and we figured it was best not to know because we figured the answer might be "No". But hearts ruled in our case. Maybe we should be brave, like you were, and find out things aren't so bad.

How long did it take to sell your HH contracts (and what time of year did they sell)? I would think now would be prime time if people want the 11 month booking window for next summer.

My use year is June and I had used the 2007 points. The new owners do not get points until June, 2008.

It was a 50 point contract and it sold in 3 weeks at $71.50 per point. The commission was 10% or $715 and Disney will take $20 for FOFR processing.
