Years ago I had some broken chains and a few things and I mailed them somewhere and they sent a check. I was wondering if anyone had anyplace they recommended to do this or a jewelry store? It has been so long. Thanks

Around here there seem to be a "Cash for Gold" store ever few miles.

When the price of gold peaks there are usually a number of locals places that will offer to buy old gold/silver. Think that is a better option then mailing it off somewhere. Just check local listings to find the stores near where you live.

Not sure where you're located, but pawn shops will buy gold and sterling silver.

Years ago I sold a bunch of my gold jewelry at one of our local higher end jewelry stores. Not sure if they still do that. But they appraised it and gave me values on the spot. The pieces I chose to sell they gave me money for then.

A long time ago (10? 15?) there was a huge thread on the DISboards about selling gold jewelry. I can't remember the site that everyone used, but it was reliable and paid decently. They didn't want stones so you could pop those out of settings before sending off the gold. The company would evaluate the jewelry and send you an offer; you could accept the offer or they'd return the jewelry. I cannot for the life of my remember the name of the site, but maybe there's an old-timer or two here who will! (maybe cashforgold.com ?)

Mom wanted me to run her down to the shop that buys gold. We figured she'd get $200-300. They wrote a check out for $1300. She looked at me and said, "I guess we're going to Olive Garden instead for lunch!" LOL.

So I broke out my 3 rings I had that I didn't think I was going to bother with. Figured I had less than $100 and they gave me $800.

I think the gold prices were around what google tells me they are now. Last year it was $1900+ when I took mom a 2nd time. First time may have been in the low $1700's.
