Hi everyone:

My DNiece is thinking about selling Avon. Can any of you who've done this tell me the pros and cons?? Thanks!

P.S. She already owns her own office cleaning business so she's great with record keeping and paperwork. She knows several women in her congregation who would like to order Avon, so she has several potential customers already, too.

My boyfriends grandmother has sold Avon for MANY years...
She loved it-it was an extra source of income, and was easy for her. She even had my boyfriend deliver it when he was younger!
I guess the plus' would be that you can basically make your own hours, you don't have to get up at 6 AM, and you can do a lot of business in your slippers and PJ's!
Not to mention, Avon stuff is great and you can get it a little cheaper! But the more you sell the better-and if you're good to your customers, they'll be good to you...(i.e.-spreading the word for you)
Good luck to your neice!

Your niece is very outgoing and does her makeup like a model so I'm sure she'll get tunzzzz of sales.

ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it for about a year when my oldest was a baby. It is fairly easy. I just sold to friends and family. I would buy alot of samples and give them out. That always seemed to boost my sales.

Hi SeaSpray,
I can't think of any cons. My grandmother sold AVON and so we always had Skin So Soft around...about 12yrs ago I started looking for an AVON lady and couldn't find one...so I called the local distributorship. When I met with the rep, she said the magic phrase ("why pay full price, when you can buy at your cost")...yep, I signed up on the spot. A little extra money, but you hold the cards...want a raise...work a little more. :)

Hope this helps...if you have more questions, please let me know. See you on the cruise!!

I sold Avon many years ago. I enjoyed it but really didn't make all that much money because I kept putting it right back into the product, either as "samples" to show my customers, gifts for family/friends, or just things (especially jewelry) for myself.

I could think of a con, people will hide from her because she wants to sale them something

I sold Avon for a year in High School and then my mom took over my territory when I went to College. She did quite well for a few years, even making Presidents Club several times (top division sellers) and winning a trip to New Orleans with her district.

The pros are making your own hours, setting your own goals, selling the way you want to, learning business and people skills and getting products yourself at a cut rate &/or previewing them in advance. There's no pyramid system either such as Mary Kay or others. You are more independent.

The cons are that you must be very good at bookkeeping, have to put out some money in samples and demo products if you really want to sell more, need to buy all your sales booklets plus bags and other necessities, need a place to store and package orders, you need time to deliver most orders and hope that people pay on time as well. In addition, there's just so much you can sell to family and friends before they get "Avoned out".

Thanks for the replies, everyone :) I've been sending her the link to this thread so she can read them.

Jason: People generally NEVER run from my niece, she's got a great personality.... Just like her aunt :p And it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous! (UNLIKE her aunt. LOL)

I can assure you Pop Daddy that nobody, but nobody hides from me. Even if I do want to "sale" them something.

You can run but you can't hide, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
:hyper:

Ok, my niece has a great personality EXCEPT she loves to point out typos and grammatical errors. :duck: I'll smack her the next time I see her! :headache:
