Selling a contract before trip is taken?

Hi all,

Could I, as a DVC member, transfer points out of my account in May to another member's account, then have the other member (a cousin) book a reservation with my name on it, then sell the contract before I take the trip in Jan?

I know I cannot close on a contract sale if I have an outstanding trip, but would this be a way to get around that stipulation?

We trust the cousin implicitly, by the way!

Selling the contract would not affect the transfered points.

JaxFLBear is correct on transferred ponts not impacting future sale of contract

When points are transferred it is a final transaction. You can't take the points back into your member account from the member you transferred them to. So those transferred points no longer ' belong ' to your contract.

Actually, you can close on a contract with an reservation on the books, the reservation just gets cancelled. This would a way around losing that reservation and still being able to sell the contract as quickly as possible.

I had the same question so thanks for the answers, but here's a related one:

If I have two DVC properties (let's say BLT with a Oct. UY and a BWV with a Dec. UY), can I tranfer BWV points to my BLT account, make a BWV reservation with them and then sell the BWV membership before I take the trip? I know that by transfering BWV points, they don't become BLT points (i.e., I can still only book BWV from months 7-11 and they retain the Dec. UY) but would that kind of transfer allow me to sell BWV before I take the trip with the BWV points.

I'm thinking about buying BLT (I want a new UY so it would not be an "add on") and then selling my existing BWV membership but since next year's vacation may be before BLT is completed, I want to be able to use my BWV points for that vacation and would prefer not to wait a year before selling.

I don't believe you can transfer points to yourself.... but I have been wrong in the past, I don't think I am about this though.

You can if you have separate master contracts. We do it all the time. If you just have add-ons, you can't.

Thanks. If/when we buy BLT, I heard it would have to be a separate contract since I heard that we can't change UY with an add-on. It makes the decision to buy much easier if I know I can transfer my BWV points so that I can sell the BWV contract whenever the opportunity arises without having to wait to complete next year's vacation.
