Anyone ever sold a car? I'm looking for tips from anyone who has experience with this.

I've listed it on craigslist with my asking price and I've got a sign to put in my window. Any suggestions on how to get close to my asking price or any other places I should posting?

:confused3

if you want to pay, do Autotrader.com and Cars.com

I sold mine on Craigslist. I looked and saw other prices of my same car and lowered my price under theirs.

The first person who called, ended up buying it, although a few weeks later due to waiting for an insurance check.

I wasn't all that much in a hurry to sell as I had someone who would have bought it, but just a few weeks later.

I listed my minivan on CL and paid for an ad on Autotrader, too. I received zero replies from Autotrader and 5 calls from CL. I ended up showing it to 3 people from CL and the 3rd guy bought it.

Definitely research your competition and price it accordingly.

I would post as many pics as possible and list everything that you know is "wrong" with the car. We are car dealers and we always list every scratch and ding...we want people to know what they are looking at. It also lowers the chance of them saying, "well I'll give X amount because of the chip" instead of what you are asking.

Good Luck!

DH said he wanted to sell his truck. I bought a sign from Walmart, filled it out and took it to a parking lot in a high traffic town--well as high traffic as this rural town gets. Anyway, about two hours later, I received a call wanting me to come back up there and talk to someone about it. They bought it the next morning. Not bad for my couple $$ on a sign!!

Sold my truck yesterday via craiglist. Listed it Friday night, had 2 lookers on Sat. and guy brought cash last night and took it home. Right now it's all about price. Research comp. sales in the area and price accordingly.

if every dealer did this...

they should post a carfax/autocheck report too..

I helped by a car for my MiL and so many cars from dealers had salvaged titles, multiple accidents, etc... One had an odometer rollback..

were they ever disclosed? nope.

Be sure to write down all the information about who bought your vehicle. When I sold my car two years ago I copied the driver's license info and his phone number etc. along with the bill of sale (AS IS) and put it in a folder. Well this year I get two red light tickets in the mail for that car. Guess who never registered it in his name or changed the title? It was still in my name. I had to go to court to prove that I had sold it. I also went to the DMV to fill out paperwork of who had bought it. Luckily I had the paperwork I needed, otherwise I'd be paying two redlight tickets!

I sold a car on eBay in 2003. It was a 1969 Cougar XR-7 Convertible with 232,000 on it and not in operating condition. Sticker when I bought it in 1969 was just over $5,000 and the selling price was $3,150.
