Sell VGC small contract? Will we regret it?

Hi. We purchased a tiny 25 point VGC contract to "try out" DVC and loved it. We then purchased a 125 VGC contract. We have only used it here in CA and it was recommended that we buy where we want to stay - especially at a resort with not a ton of rooms and limited availability.

We are fairly flexible with our travel dates and have found that the 11-month window has not been as important as we thought it would. I know this runs counter to what many/most people say but with some flexibility (for example we want to visit any weekend in June) we can find availability at 7-months fairly often.

We have purchased a larger SSR contract and are now considering selling the 25 and/or 125 point contract to VGC. The value of our VGC contracts has gone up quite a bit and we have more points than we need right now and are letting others use/rent those VGC points right now.

Can you think of any reason we'd regret selling the VGC points? Factors we are considering right now are...
- One day if/when our kids are "over" Disney maybe a tiny contract for a night or two would be fine for my wife and I
- Value of these points could go down if economy tanks
- Could value of these points be affected negatively if new California Luxury Resort (coming 2021) has DVC rooms?
- Buying resale and looking for a deal was a lot of work and somewhat stressful. We wouldn't want to sell these and have to re-buy points in the future. I want to be done buying!
- While we can let others use/rent them out indefinitely on years we don't need them there is a bit of work involved and eventually these points will lose value as there is an expiration date (though that is decades away).

Thanks in advance for any insight you can add. This community is great!

Unless the annual fees are much higher than SSR, I'd keep both of them. You can still use them at WDW at seven months out. But you can still use them before seven months out at VGC if that is where you stay most of the time. If you decide to sell them, you should be able to command a pretty good price for those points.

You also have an option of renting out your GCV pts. Like you said, there aren't a lot of room at GCV so companies pay you more for your GCV pts or you can even rent them out yourself here on the DIS in the Rent/Trade section.

We are locals and just bought 60 GCV pts. My kids love sleeping at GCV. Even when the new hotel is built, with or without DVC rooms, the location of GCV is desirable and people will want to stay there.

I can't fathom a situation where there won't be a huge demand for VGC point rentals. Given what you can rent them for, I imagine you'd likely earn enough to pay your VGC and (most of) your SSR dues. Unless you need quick cash from a sale, I don't see a downside to keeping your points. [or you could always trade me your 150 VGC points for my 200 AKV points - just sayin... :thumbsup2]

Thanks for the thoughts y'all. Generally I think about it as a cost/benefit thing and not as a cash flow issue. It is true that since I can rent points out for double (or more) of yearly fees that renting out half of my points covers all of my fees for the year.

Also it sounds like those who weighed in don't think another DVC resort nearby will decrease the value of this one. That is good to hear.
