Sell me on the iphone...

just got mine on Wednesday....

Who can suggest any cool apps or fun free games for kids to play (the 'phone' should come in handy while on our 14 hour drive to WDW this summer!!)

We just got ours two weeks ago and have no idea why we didn't get them sooner (oh yeah, we couldn't afford them). They are amazing. (3GS) Camera, video, voice recorder, voice dailing, apps, gas prices, GPS, golf GPS, grocery list, etc., etc., etc. The list goes on and on. There is almost nothing we can't do with it.

As for price it is whatever your calling plan is plus $30 data plan per phone plus texting ($5 for 200/month and $20 for unlimited texts). So we had a family 450 plan with main line and one extra line ($69.99?) then add $60 for two data plans and $10 for two of the 200/mo text plans and you get around $139.99 for the two phones plus taxes and fees.

No problems with AT&T service in our area and we've been with AT&T for over ten years as a family (my father worked for BellSouth for 35 years before retiring).

The only signal problems we have are inside our house because we have a radiant roof barrier that also blocks cell signals - but it blocks all signals, not just AT&T.

I have been with Verizon for something like 17 years. I would love an iPhone:lovestruc but am confused over the calling plans. I would need a family plan plus 2 additional lines. Does the family plan with shared minutes include calls to anyone on other plans? not just AT&T customers? Also, what about texting. I would need the unlimted texting - is that to anyone as well?
I did do a mock order but the final page just had a breakdown of what I would pay at the time of sale, not what my monthly bill would be. Thanks!

I love my iphone, I've had it about 1 month. The only downfall...is with my 3 year old, whenever he talks to someone his cheek touches the screen and he hangs up on them and calls someone else. Ironically whenever he calls someone it's my mom...so not a big deal. it's isn't easy to explain to the 3 year old how to use it. and i have an 11 month old, so he'll be talking soon too. I haven't figured out if there is a way to lock it on once it's on or not.

I have a family plan with 4 phones, 2 of them iphones. As noted, the $30.00 data plan is applicable to each iphone on the plan. My plan includes 1400 shared minutes, the A-list (10 most frequently called numbers at no additional charge) and unlimited texting on all phones. My monthly bill averages $220. I know this is high....I'm in Ohio, DS is in the Army in Hawaii and DD and DSiL live in PA where the cell signal is very weak. We all use the texting a great deal and the A-list is an added bonus.

Love my iphone! My only complaint is that on a fairly regular basis, I'm not receiving text and/or pics that have been sent to me or that ones I have sent to others are not arriving. I've seen the AT&T folks and should probably drive the 2 hrs to have Apple take a look and see if there is something amiss. On the positive side, while DH was in Siberia, the text went right through, and the picture arrived about 1/2 hour later!

I had an iPhone for a year and loved it...except when I wanted to make a phone call. AT&T service is awful. The phone is great, but not when you need it to work as a phone.

I now have a Motorola Droid from Verizon and it is 10x better than the iPhone and it even makes phone calls!

Can you be more specific? Is the $30 per line? I'm thinking of switching in July when our Verizon plan expires and I was wondering how much everyone pays for their family plans with other companies. We don't need alot of minutes. It's mostly texting and I know my kids would love to be able to use the internet on their phones.

We have five lines on our plan ... and we have the lowest amount of minutes you can get on their plan ... b/c we mostly use texting.

The 'shared texting' feature is for ALL your phones and it's for ANYONE that you text ... not just those with att.

Not everyone on your plan has to have an iphone. My husband and I have the iphone while the kids have other phones with great features including internet and a touchscreen. They share a data plan with one another ... and are including with our 'shared texting'

also, the minutes you don't use rollover from month to month -- so if you don't use the phone feature much the lowest plan is the way to go.

Love my Iphone and wouldnt trade it for anything. A little tip if you take it to the parks. Take a ziplock baggie to put it in if it rains. You can still use the touch screen and your phone stays dry.

Good thread! I have been wondering about iphone too. What I want to know is how hard is it going from a full keyboard to an iphone. My current phone is a touch screen but I do my texting with the slideout keyboard.

I thought I would hate the iPhone because of the touch screen.

My DD13 has my old phone, and if I go to use it to text.....I realize how much I LOVE the iPhone.

I've jokingly told DH I can live without heat, cable and electricity.... but not the iPhone :lmao:(we lost power twice this winter for extended periods of time)

I haven't had any issues with dropped calls.

and I LOVE the earbuds with the mic. Much better than any bluetooth I've tried :thumbsup2

I love my iPhone! I had a blackberry prior to this, and honestly never used it to it's full capacity because I was fustrated with the small screen size. I use my iPhone for email, texting, calling, games, movies, music, organizing, etc.

The only thing i DON'T like is the lack of insurance plans available for the phone...I can be really hard on phones. I invested in a $40.00 case, called an otterbox and it has saved it's life on numerous occasions.

Nope. I'll be the lone voice in the wilderness here. :teeth: Well, nearly lone...

My wife has the Droid (motorola) and we have Verizon for our personal cells.

Used to have Verizon for my work phone too. Life was good.

Then, AT&T became the carrier for work. I had had terrible trouble with this carrier several years ago and switched to Verizon. I knew I was in for trouble.

I cover the east coast for my company. I am a compliance officer and have to be able to take calls and check emails nearly round the clock.

I hate, loathe and despise, AT&T on service issues alone. Is that clear enough? ;) TERRIBLE problems with dropped calls (more dropped than not). Lack of service areas. Disney? Don't get me started. Another day yesterday with "no service" with AT&T, yet Verizon was just fine.

The iPhone? Big deal. Give me the Droid with the touch screen AND the keyboard (I need a keyboard, my hands are too big LOL).

So, that little tirade to say, Go with Verizon, GO with the DRIOD and just say no to AT&T. Should Verizon offer an iPhone, maybe... but only if you are totally comfortable with no keyboard, and having to download apps for nearly anything.

Ooops, meant to throw in that we are Mac people, in case that matters. :teeth: We have an iMac and are looking at a Macbook Pro laptop for my wife. ::yes::
