Sell me a room at Pop, AOA, or the Cabins.

What do you love about the resort? What do you hate about it? What are the rooms like- are they big? small? What is there to do at the resorts? How's the food? And how are the buses to and from the parks? Do your best to sell me the resort!

We have a 2018 room only reservation for POFQ but we're open to any resort. I'm itching to do a split stay when we go next year but haven't decide what other resort to split at.

I've stayed at Pop three times.
Rooms are very small, but were fine for us (only two people in room each trip). I found the rooms to be very clean. We had bad bus transportation one trip, okay one trip, and good one trip. The food at the food court was okay, it was just super busy.
I cannot comment on AoA or the cabins.
For the price, Pop was hard to beat for these trips. My kids are full day park guests and really only use the rooms to sleep and shower.
When we go as a family, we pick a moderate resort for better amenities.

Fort Wilderness is beautiful and peaceful, almost like a natural retreat at the heart of Disney World. People there are a bit friendlier than at other resorts. MK is a pretty boat ride away. With your own cabin, you won't have noise from other guests right across the wall or on top of your ceiling. Chip and Dale show up for movie nights. You can do a wagon ride, horseback ride, archery, bike riding, etc. Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show & Mickey's Backyard BBQ are there. I'd definitely prefer staying there than at one of the big box value resorts. We tent camped there & loved it, but a cabin would be even better.

Personally, we don't care for Pop's visual styling and layout, and the dining is not that great in terms of options. AoA has better Disney themes, especially if you want to mentally stay in the Disney bubble, and its dining hall has a lot more options. But aesthetics is different for everyone, so I wouldn't write off Pop just for that, especially if you're using it just as a place to sleep rather than for its resort features.

If you're cost conscious, consider staying at Pop and walking just a few minutes across the lake bridge to use AoA's better dining hall and bus system (lots of direct routes to various parks when we were last there). It's an easy strategy to get the best of both resorts.

Also, apparently the 90's Pop building has just been renovated with newly refreshed rooms, if that's of interest to you.

Full disclosure, the WL and FW are my family's favorites, so we're a bit biased. We completely agree with the above assessment about the atmosphere and the people.

It's anecdotal based on a single experience, but we found AoA/Pop to have a pleasant atmosphere during the week the one time we've stayed there. However, on Friday the locals rolled in with beer coolers, and it got a bit rowdy and coarse that day and Saturday. May have just been a fluke occurrence.

We stay at the cabins for the space. I love having a living room and kitchen. We like to order groceries and fix meals at the cabin. Then we sit out at the picnic table and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. It's so relaxing.

A couple things to consider are the size of the Fort and the lack of qs. We rented a golf cart to get around which is the fastest but not cheapest way to get around. Otherwise you can skip that expense and just use the internal bus which is efficient but that does add in extra wait time for the bus stop. Their only QS options are the pool snack bar and take out near trails end. If you get the dining plan, it's just not very convenient to use the mug. We got the free dining 2 years ago and we would take the boat over to contemporary or wilderness lodge to get qs. It's good you can use resort mugs at any resort qs.

I'd stay at pofq it's one of our fav resorts.
It's hard to recommend any resort without knowing the makeup of your party. Do some research, all your questions are readily available on the threads of this site, usually on the page 1. Also Allears.net has lots of resort info.

:scared: The lifeguards don't check to see if they're staying there?

I love fort wilderness but I don't know that I'd pay to stay in a cabin unless it was the only way my family would agree. It's moderate resort prices without the moderate resort amenities imo. For that price I'd stay pofq or bc/yc for the pool.

Pop buses always seem the craziest at park closing, but admittedly that's anecdotal. I like AoA food court and I'd probably stay there if the rooms were on par with the values but they always seem much more expensive. I think the pool is cool. But disclaimer: finding nemo is one of my favorite movies and that definitely helps with my favorable perception of aoa.

I second the PP who talked about renting a golf cart. That will add a chunk of money on to your reservation, but I would do it, because the internal bus system is very slow. You have to take a bus to a bus, if that makes sense. We found it very frustrating. But we did like the cabins, overall. However, the transportation annoyed us enough that we would not stay there again.

I would stay at POFQ the whole time or, possibly, do the cabins split. Staying at the cabins does not offer park convenience. Have you considered splitting with AKL or WL?

I can only comment on the cabins. We stayed a couple of years ago. I think they have been redone since then but I am not certain. The full size bed in the bedroom was HARD. Seriously hard. When I sat on it, I practically bounced off. We realized we are not full sized bed people. Too close for comfort for us. Now I know that Florida is humid, but none of our stuff ever dried. Everything was always damp. Including our sheets when we climbed into bed at night. I had to have our towels dry cleaned because after 3 days they didn't dry and we didn't have time to go dry them in the laundry area. I liked the room. We all had a place to sit. The kitchen was nice, but I can tell you I never really used it. I don't cook on vacation. I do it all week long during the normal every day of my life. So, my vacation is me NOT cooking. LOL. My kids did have some cereal in the morning. The next vacation we took we rented two rooms at Coronado and it was so much better.

I absolutely love POFQ! Keep that part of your trip...now for the next resort...We have stayed in the Little Mermaid section of AoA. The room was small, but we loved the atmosphere of the resort...so much fun! We also loved taking the animation classes and the main pool! We hated our stay at Pop. The other guests staying there ruined it for us. They were drinking and letting their children run crazy throughout the buildings. We have not stayed in a cabin, but we have camped at Fort Wilderness. It is a great resort, but it is spread out. If you are relying on the internal bus system you might get really tired of that. Since you said you are doing a split stay, it might not be so bad. We always rely on Disney transportation. If I was staying there for a week, I would get tired of the internal bus system. A golf cart would be something I would look into renting. I don't know how you tour WDW, but you might want to save the cabin for your lazy days and not your park storming days. There are a lot of activities to enjoy there...

We love split stays! It is like two vacations in one! Each resort is unique! Happy Planning!

I took that post as locals come in for the weekend for an overnight stay, not that they were trespassing but, to answer your question, no, the lifeguards do not interact with the guests unless they are in the water/engaging in dangerous activities/ in distress. But you do now need a room key to access the pools area unless you are scooting in behind a guest.

That said, we stay at POP all the time and I have never noticed the behaviors described.

1. I haven't stayed at Pop since 2006, 2007. I didn't like it. The beds were small and hard and the room was tight. I spent most of my time in the parks because I didn't want to go back to that room.

Pop does have its own bus system but if you're always standing or waiting for buses because the lines are always long, does that really matter?

I think I ate one meal in the food court.

It does have a cute gift shop.

The pools are very crowded and loud. It's not a relaxing hotel.

However despite some issues with the hotel the new renovations are nice. I still wouldn't stay there but I think it's much more acceptable and I'm glad Disney stepped it up.

2. I've never stayed at AoA but if I had to choose between it and Pop I would choose AoA.

The theming is nicer, it's newer and I've heard good things about the healthier items in the food court.

It doesn't have a full kitchen, just a kitchenette (suites).

The master bathroom has a queen bed and a very nice, updated shower. There are also two bathrooms in the suites. The second bathroom has the standard tub/shower combo. One of the tables converts into a Murphy bed. Again, in the rooms with suites.

3. I've never stayed at the Cabins either but I've seen people vlog about them and they're very cute. They were refurbished last year (stainless steal, subway tiles). Although they're a smaller than AoA suites they're still about 500 square feet which is a decent size.

If I couldn't get a room at Wilderness Lodge during the holidays I would definitely pick a Cabin. They remind me of the Treehouse villas at Saratoga.

There's a queen bed and bunk bed in the bedroom as well as a pullout couch in the living room. There's a fridge and freezer as well as a convection microwave and stovetop.

I think you could actually cook some decent meals there and I just love how there's so much space inside and around the Cabin.

You can park right outside of your cabin and there's a cute porch by the front door with a bench and table.

Surprisingly with the right discount they can be cheaper than AoA rooms and you clearly have more space and you don't have to worry about hearing your neighbors.

The negatives: only one bathroom and a small closet (there are drawers in the room).

If this is your first visit my advice would be different but if you've been to WDW before and stayed on property then my advice is to stay at...

The Cabins!...Only with a golf cart. The best trip we've ever taken was at Fort Wilderness staying in The Cabins. We did the Hoop De Doo, Carriage ride, went to the horse barn, watched fireworks from the marina, played tetherball, sang campfire songs, met Chip and Dale, saw deer and wild turkey...the list goes on! The golf cart added to how much fun it was! Quick service is a little strange here. You walk into the buffet restaurant and order at the counter. We took ours back to our Cabin but I'm not sure where you would sit otherwise. There were a bunch of picnic tables. The "room" size is large. You basically have your own one room apartment. We comfortably slept 5 in there. My 21 year old sister was psyched about the bunk bed (deprived childhood, lol). I loved the boat to MK, peaceful. The Disney theme isn't in-your-face inside the cabin but we still love it because the other guests decorate their cabins and campsites. We brought Disney window clings for the Cabin's windows and put a couple on our golf cart so we knew which one it was. It was awesome! If you opt against a golf cart you will be very far away from most things and not within what I would consider walking distance. One draw back was that the pools are very basic.

If this is your first stay and you DEFINITELY plan to come back, I would say Pop Century because you'll have so many choices to try later, you can only work your way up from here. I've stayed at Pop once and was glad for the experience but I haven't gone back. It is a massive resort so unless you pay for Preferred you will have a considerable walk to the lobby and buses. The rooms are small and there is a pretty standard food court. One "plus" is the Pizza Delivery, which is fun and inexpensive for late nights. First trips are a good way to get a lay of the land and figure out how stuff works. You'll likely spend very little time at the resort because you'll be in the parks the whole time so Pop is a good place to save money. They are in the process of refurbishing so chances are you will end up with a room that has a pull down Murphy bed, which for me is frustrating because if you want a table to eat at (which we do for breakfast every morning and put drinks and snacks on) the bed has to be closed but at the the end of the night when you're exhausted and just want to collapse you have to clear everything off the table to pull out the bed, so keep that in mind depending on how many are in your party.

If this may be the only trip you ever make to Disney...Art of Animation's theming is really cool and you will be immersed in Disney, which I love...but to me it's just a pricier Value unless you need the space of a suite. I did not stay here but my sister did and I visited her room. It was very cute but I could not believe how expensive it was and it was a bit of a walk from the lobby and buses. I did like that the exterior of the buildings were highly themed with giant statues everywhere. The food court was good but it was a food court so plan some sit down meals elsewhere in the parks or other resorts to get a variety of options.

So this is only an opinion of the 3 resorts you're considering. I'm sure others have some great advice too! I hope this helps! :) Enjoy your trip!

I love your expansive descriptions ....

We stayed at FW cabins last month (switched from cbr) and it was an amazing experience.
A different world and yet right next to the most magical park on earth.
Would love to return-however the prices are too high for my liking.

AOA suites are incredible and the whole resort is fab fun.
Pop is our very close 2nd value choice.

Would need more info -
- How many are you?
- What are ages?
- Do you plan resort time?
- Will you have a car?

Not sure if you are a passholder or FL resident but they just released the PH rates for September and mid-week at The Cabins was only $216/night. It almost made me switch but we are only there for a couple days and we are trying to go on the cheap. :)

We were at Poly and even with locked gate locals were scooting in behind people!
