Are selfie sticks allowed on the DCL? My daughter heard they were banned from the parks but we weren't sure about the cruise. Thanks in advance!

We used one on our dec 21, 2015 cruise. It's the only way we can get a picture with all our family in it, usually it's my husband with the kids. Or me with the kids, lol

Oh no! We have never used a selfie stick, I just found a cheap one and picked it up for the kids for the cruise. I think they are most dangerous when people try to video with them and are walking around and not paying attention. I want it strictly for still pictures with the ocean in the background and such.

That's when I nearly got hit a few times. IME people who are taking pictures of themselves aren't aware of others around them - they are, by the very nature of what they are doing, self-absorbed. They stick it out into walkways, turn around with them held out ignoring the fact that people are standing near or walking by, walk around with it extended and basically just hog a lot of limited space by forcing others to constantly walk around them in a wide circumference to avoid getting hit. The more crowded the area, the worse they are. I have never been anywhere before where so many people had them and had to become very vigilant about not getting my eye poked out. I actually had to be on my guard, pick out the people with selfie sticks and learn to be ready to duck at any time I was near them. Unfortunately, even if DCL banned them, there were lots of people on our excursions not with DCL who also had them. They are a menace and I hope that not only DCL bans them but the attractions that are commonly visited and where there are large numbers of people around start to ban them.

We even saw someone in the Tower of London in the tour of the crown jewels (where they specifically state no photography) holding a GoPro on a selfie stick sticking it out over the barrier whenever they thought the guards weren't looking. Guy nearly hit DH twice on the head and was completely oblivious to that fact. Unfortunately the guards did not catch him in the act.

I think the thing that annoyed me the most about nearly getting hit several times is that, at no time, did the person with the stick even realize that they'd nearly hit me and apologize. They simply moved on to another area.

I have over 500 pictures on the Nikon but not every situation we had someone around, like I said literally 5 photos used for it but it was still handy for us as a family to have. The kids didn't use it unless with us and mostly just goofing around in the room.

No they are not banned on the ship itself, however they don't allow them on the Aquaduck just a fyi.

We saw people using them on our Thanksgiving cruise and they were respectful with them. No hitting or bumping into people. The cruises are less crowded than the parks, so they seem safer to use there.

I think they were banned at the parks after a guest got one stuck in a ride and they had to stop the ride and reset it. DCL doesn't have rides so that's probably why they haven't banned them.

Actually there were 2 incidents with selfish sticks stopping the ride within a week (California Screamin' in DCL). The stick struck the superstructure of the ride, causing the ride to go down. When a ride goes down, it must be inspected to determine if it's still safe. Can take upwards of an hour or more on any given down time to bring a ride back up again.

Disney has decided that, for the parks at least, that those sticks are not a good thing and banned them. Yay.

Seriously, yes I selfishly wanted about 5 photos with all 5 members of my family. That was a ridiculous comment, it is not just 15 year old girls using them and not everyone is being Careless and walking aimlessly with them.

It wasn't 15 year old girls using them on our cruise - it was adults of all ages. And when one is so focused on using a stick to take pictures of ones-self, awareness of what is going on around tends to take a backseat. For every person who uses it responsibly, there are many more who do not. I think that you will start to see more places banning them over the next couple of years because of that. All it needs are a few incidents, as what has occurred in WDW and DL, for other places including DCL to ban them.

I certainly agree that there could be times when a CM or someone isn't around to take a pic of your family but most nicer cameras have a timer that can be set on the shutter. A Gorilla tripod is a very handy little gizmo and easily packable and able to be set up anywhere for a remote shot of a group.
