Aloha,

I sincerely apologize if this has already been addressed...

Does Walt Disney Company currently or plan to have any Selfie Stick bans in effect for their properties? Most especially for parades, fireworks, etc...?

I ask because they are becoming a great nuance and affect a lot of people in their vicinity.

Does Walt Disney Company
1. currently
2. or plan to have any Selfie Stick bans in effect for their properties?

1. No.
2. Nobody knows.

There was much discussion about these sticks on a massive thread on this board just over a week ago.
Seen HERE.

I am inclined to agree with the Smithsonian that they are a hazard in the midst of a crowd. I can't tell you how many times I nearly walked right into one while we were at WDW a few weeks ago. Not that I wasn't paying attention--selfie stick users would simply stop and throw out their stick without regard to whomever might be walking close by.

Yeah, the Smithsonian museums are very crowded. Not unlike WDW.

I think they will be banned at WDW at some point. Probably once someone gets seriously hurt because of one.

Getting whacked with an iPad or child is worse. :P
I don't see the point of selfie sticks other than to have the ability to raise the camera above your head. I've happily walked around DW with my DSLR camera out just videoing the ambience - I can't see the point of doing the same thing with the camera pointing at me enjoying the ambience. It seems too narcisstic.

Hopefully WDW bans them...and soon (at least before Aug 24, God willing). Given that it seems that 99% of people walking around (everywhere - not just at WDW) are totally oblivious as to their surroundings to begin with, arming many of them with sticks can only have bad results.

Just returned today from Disney and was very wary of the 'sticks' before going because of all that I was hearing. But, have to say, there were not that many around and they didn't impact us at all.

I can see where they could be an issue if too many people continue to use them, but other than thinking they looked a little 'silly,' I was ok with them for the two weeks we were there.

I really think Disney should ban them though before they get to be the 'standard' for everyone there.

I have heard from someone who should know that Disney is seriously considering banning these things

And of course the use of the iPad can come at a price. I was watching fireworks in the Magic Kingdom and a woman near me got jostled by the crowd. CRASH. shattered screen destroyed iPad. Cameras are probably a good investment

If these are supposed to be for selfies, how on earth can people not pay attention when using them. People point, too, but they aren't hitting people in the head.

I do believe it is causing a problem, I am just confused to why since it is easy enough to not cause a problem.

Seriously don't get the big deal! I was in china a few months ago, on the great Wall and if I can deal with them there I can deal with them at disney!
Not everybody who uses them is ignorant to other guests.
People who stand with huge ipads cause my more problems, and while they allow them and tripods they should allow selfie sticks.

:sad2:

UUUGGGHHHH! Soo obnoxious! And I thought the DSLR cameras with their massive lens attachments were bad!!!

Oh brother. So now everyone with a DSLR camera is obnoxious, too? Now we're complaining about fully 30% of the population?

Why can't everyone just go on their trip and MYOB and not get so worked up about other people doing things that, the vast majority of the time, won't affect them in the slightest?

If there were as many people involved in selfie stick incidents as there were people who CLAIM to have been involved in selfie stick incidents, they would have been banned a long time ago, and I would have supported it.
