I got a sample of the Dove product last summer and didn't like it - I have very fair skin and lots of spider veins on my legs - I'm a kid of the 70's spent many a long summer day "deep frying" - covered with baby oil - I have no interest in going to a tanning salon but would like some color (see siggie - upcoming cruise).

If you do use these products which brand do you reccomend??

I use them all the time and for the same reason you are looking to. You have to keep your skin really buffed of all dead skin cells for them to work and look good.

For my body I use St. Tropez, which you can get at Sephora or Beauty.com. I usually mix my tanner with a bit of body lotion when applying it. It seems to make the tan last longer and not get flaky. On my face I use Murad Age Proof Self Tanner. I've tried all the drugstore brands, but I can't handle their tanner smell. Lierac is my favorite self tanner, as it is made from henna, lasts longer and doesn't have any tanner smell, but it's $$$$.

no I am white as a ghost and was always to scared to.
My sisiter is alittle darker and used one of them jergens glow lotions on the winter and loves it.

I do but only on my legs. I tan pretty easy everywhere else. But for some reason my legs get a tan line down the front and thats it. I use Jergens Natural Glow, light to medium. It doesn't make me look orange either.

I'm blindingly white - people often ask me if I'm wearing white stockings - but I don't bother with fake tans. I must be the only person on this planet that looks really bad with a tan!

Last year I used Jergens Natural Glow a couple of times and liked it pretty well. Was at the store and saw Jergens Natural Glow Firming so I bought it. Miracle in a bottle. Well, I've got a pretty good glow going on and as far as the firming -well I'm not really so sure about that but I'd like to believe I'm firmer. Hey just call me gullible! :rotfl:

:clown: I used them when I was in 8th grade. I used it all over my body ecpt for my face:sad2: :chewy: and my hands had half on and half off ( due to I had to wash them when I was done applying it) I looked like such a dork EVERYONE in class was like what happend to you:crowded: . I was som embarressed. I could not get it off for about a month. and then it looked like I had dirt marks all over. Did I mention I used 2 bottles of tan crap and 2 sun in bottles also in my hair also . I looked like a really big :dog2: :confused3

I am Casper, the friendly Lori....:sad2: :sad2:

Anyway, the best product that I have found for my skin type is L'Oreal Sublime Bronze. It is wonderful! It is tinted so you can see that you are putting it on smoothly and it dries with no smell and won't rub off on your clothes. I love it!:thumbsup2

I have used Xen Tan, which worked pretty good, and also Mystic Tan (at tanning salons where it sprays you). Mystic Tan is my favorite! It looks the most natural of the ones I've tried. :thumbsup2

I wish I could tan for real...basal cell carcinoma patient here. :(

I second Tiggersmom's recommendation for L'Oreal Sublime Bronze. It comes in several shades - I am blonde/fair skin and use the lightest one on my legs, and I love it.

okay, my fellow ghosts with a pulse...I'll try the Loreal or the Jergens...but do you use them on your face too? I have so little melanin, I don't even freckle, zip, AAAGGHH!! Somebody help me....

I was a big fan of neutragena foam for the longest time, but it dries quickly so you have to work fast. I decided to try the Loreal and I loved it. It's a lotion so it goes on much easier than the foam and it has a better tint and scent. The only problem I'm finding now is it doesn't last very long. I wonder if maybe my bottle went bad because I know this didn't happen when I first got it. I will mention that it's shimmery, so beware if that would bother you.

I just tried a new kind, Banana Boat maybe and I don't like it at all. It the continuous spray kind and dries almost immediately and there's no tint.

Well....this "Casper woman" tried Jergens and I turned ORANGE!!!!  I don't use the L'Oreal on my face, b/c I use base.

Mine lasts for about 1 week and 1/2 before I have to reapply. It IS shimmery but that goes away after the first bath, kinda cool to my 4 year old though...;)

I don't, I've had pre-melanoma before and want people to realize I try to stay out of the sun. :) Just my preference!

I'm butt white, and I've tried many. The one I suggest is the Jergens Natural Glow in light-medium. (Didn't know they made a "firmer"! I'm on a quest now!) Shower and exfoliate well. Apply a little plain lotion on your hands, face, ankles, elbows and knees. Then apply the Jergens. When you pre-apply a plain lotion on those areas, they don't soak in as much tanner and don't turn dark and splotchy.

Hope that helps! I also apply the Jergens to my face but using only whatever is leftover on my hands before I wash them. :confused3 I can't really describe it but it works for me!

I also use the Jergens Natural Glow. I just don't tan, even if I did decide to sit out in the sun, I still don't think it would work. Anyway, the Natural Glow works great for me. However, I personally do not like the smell at all, so that's a little tough for me. Just keep your skin exfoliated, as has been mentioned, and you should be fine. I've also found that, after it dries, if I use another lotion maybe even the next day, the smell isn't so bad.
