Self-serve returning to Cabanas

And so it begins.....

I know some people didn’t/wouldn’t miss the self-serve, but I sure would have if the protocol was still in place when I sail in May.

Hopefully, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. 😐

🎉

I think we're maybe the minority opinion on this, but I am also happy to see self-service return at Cabanas! Mostly because I just prefer to serve myself, but also because it represents another step towards pre-COVID normalcy.

Now I just have to hope that it will also apply to European sailings, when those protocols are (finally) announced.

Thanks for sharing!

There appears to be a conflict regarding "Character Interaction" since the info put out yesterday for the parks said it would resume on the ships on the 18th.

As early as April 18, Disney "will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland (in California) and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii," according to a new post on Thursday on the official Disney Parks blog.

I am confused as well why they still can't do the Sail Away party but they can get rid of all of the other social distancing. Do you think maybe they just need to get the performers trained on the full Sail Away and Pirate shows before they can announce them starting again? They are already doing limited deck parties with performers. So it can't be a matter of distancing the performers from the crowd.

Not sure if that GIF is a joke or a real clip (I can honestly see it either way), and maybe I've just been lucky, but in six DCL cruises, I have never witnessed any kind of melee approaching that at Cabanas.

Does it get crowded? Sure, and sometimes you have to wait your turn at a pod or for a table. But some kind of free-for-all where people are reaching over/across you to grab food? Never experienced that.

I think we may indeed be in the minority on this. At least, the minority on this board. Still, I wonder if we're of the minority opinion among DCL guests as a whole.

I was wondering about that too, but then figured they would update again on the 18th or whatever date it actually starts on the ships.

i was thinking the same.

our next cruise is April 23rd, so good timing on our part. Plus my 2 granddaughters will be sailing too. It will be almost normal to them. this will be my 4th cruise since cruising started back up and it’s been different protocol every time. Though it gets more and more crowded each time. I was glad to experience the extremely low crowds in the fall during 2 different cruises. My last cruise (Feb) was 2000+ and filled with kids everywhere, every age. I’m curious to see what it’s like in 3 weeks.

No, I think you are in the majority. But buffets have always been germ city. Our 2003 cruise they had staff serve at the buffet because or norovirus, so that was nothing new. But that costs money since they need extra staff to man the food stations.
I don't think everything will ever get completely back to pre-pandemic. Not sure how old you are but just look at how things have changed in airport security after the 1970s hijackings and then September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. I worked airport security in 1975, no metal detectors, no bag inspection, everyone could go up to the gate and say goodbye to whomever was flying, and they just walked on their flight. My job mostly was pointing people to the bathrooms, and helping them recover items they had lost.

Self serve or served I really don't care but the food choices and quality were not up to DCL standards at Cabanas on our February 26th Fantasy cruise so that issue needs to be fixed. We almost thought that they were doing it on purpose to drive everyone to the restaurants for breakfast and lunch.
