Self Cleaning Oven

Well I have one, but never used the self cleaning part of it. It needs to be cleaned! Got out the owner's manuel and um well let's say one would need a 8 year college degree to understand this!

Just how long does it take and is it hard to do. Also how does your oven turn out?

My oven has a button that I push to lock the oven and start the cycle. It takes about two hours and the oven gets VERY HOT, so watch little ones careully. Make sure you take out the racks because the heat will burn off the smooth finish on them. When it cools down and you can open the oven, I usually vacuum out the flakes left on the floor of the oven.

PS Some ovens require you to manually lock the door before you can start the cleaning cycle.

Mine you just lock the door and push the button. I believe it takes 3 hours before the latch will release, ie it is cool enough to open.

Same here. I just push the button and then start. The door automatically locks and starts the cycle. The door automatically unlocks after it ends and cools down. I suggest removing the racks and cleaning them by hand rather than letting the oven clean them. They won't slide as smoothly after going through a cleaning cycle.

When it is done cleaning you just wipe out the small amount of "dust" that was created from burning everything off. It works really well. If you have any problems, just call me, I'll bring the hammer !!!!

Yes do remove them. I forgot to once and alwats kick myself whenever I use the oven.

I just did mine for the first time a few weeks ago. I pushed the "clean" button and the digital display said to "remove racks" and then push another button to start. It automatically set the timer for 3 hours. But, when the 3 hours was over it was still super hot, so it remained locked for maybe another hour. I thought that was odd that it went so far to set a timer, but it still wasn't done for another hour. There was just a little dust afterward that I wiped out with a damp paper towel.

My old boss told me that his sister in law put it on the cleaning cycle with an apple pie in the oven. He said he was not a pretty when it finished cleaning or they finally got the door opened.

my new oven, you remove the racks, lock the door and press the clean button. It has 3 cycles, but I figure if I'm going to torch it, I'm going to torch it good, so I go for the 4 hour one. Mine also has a delay on it, so I can set it to clean overnight (better for our electricity load). Once it's done, unlock, wipe up the ash with a damp paper towel and replace the racks. Voila! easy as the pie that boiled over!

I'm not sure where you live but if it's somewhere that's going to get cold this week wait until that night to clean the oven. I'm not suggesting people heat their house with the oven but if you're already going to clean it you might as well do it on a cold night to save your furnace running a few hours. I know here in northern IN we're supposed to have snow Wednesday so it'll be much colder than it is now.

Am I the only one here who gets tremendous headaches when I clean the oven. I'm scared to leave the house because of how hot the oven actually gets. But I have to get outside. Not sure why, but I'm talking really really bad headaches!!

No headaches, but yes, very hot. If I can remember correctly, about 800 degrees. And if there is anything to be baked off, there is usually a slight smell involved. Maybe that is what is causing your headaches. The fumes.
