Grocery stores?

It's a novelty that I sometimes enjoy. :) (we don't have it where we live--so I get intrigued when I see it at places. Kind of like grocery-disney-land. :thumbsup2 )

It's my favorite thing ever! I don't have to wait for someone to finish their conversation to ring me up, I don't have to wait for someone to figure out how much change I'm supposed to get back if I've given them more than the amount asked for..I can bag my own groceries my own way. And the best part is...I can be in and out of the store in a flash.

If I'm only picking up a few things I use it. But sometimes it doesn't work and I don't know why, and it would have been easier just to get in a regular line!

I think they're a nuisance!

Ordinarily I wouldn't mind using one, but last week DH and I were at Lowes and we had items that had been specially cut by a clerk and had no bar code to scan. A ticket had been hand written for the cashier to read and punch in by hand. Wouldn't you know it...no registers open with cashiers, only self-serve. DH insisted we leave and just left everything sitting in the cart. We saw quite a few others doing the same thing. Lowes definitely lost money in sales as opposed to what they'd have been paying a cashier to check us all out.

And PD...I notice you rarely (do you ever?) answer the questions you ask. Why is that? :teeth:

I love them unless I am stuck behind someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing, how to bag their items and takes forever.

I was a cashier. I can get in and out in 2 minutes.

I voted other because in some stores it is great, our old Walmart was great, never had a problem with anything. I tried it at the grocery store in the new town and it was horrible. Every other item either didn't register when I put it in the bag or the thing kept telling me I took something out of the bagging area. It took forever!

I love it! Although I'm rarely able to use it because I usually have too many items.

I don't get paid to ring myself out, nor do I get a discount for saving the store some money.

Nope. I'll let someone else ring up my order AND bag it for me. TYVM!

See that is funny. I once watched a woman with about 30 jars of baby food + other stuff ring herself out.... it took forever.

OMG, NO! It gives me the willies just to think about doing it! Every time I have tried it has been a complete and utter disaster. Red lights, and over the loudspeaker, "Customer service to the self scan, customer service to the self scan!" They may as well announce, "She has a college degree, but can't handle the self scan!"

Love it when I am not buying a whole shopping cart full of groceries. If I am doing a large shopping run I want someone to check me out. Otherwise it is great and I love how quick it is. Although I sometimes miss the cute bag boys..:thumbsup2

Was there not a cashier running the self-checkout??? I work at Lowe's and we are required to always have someone there.

That said, I use self-checkout when I am not writing a check.

I'm a fan of self checkout. I can be in and out in minutes. :thumbsup2

Same here. I'm very intimidated by them.

I HATE them! I used to be a cashier, so I know what I'm doing.
BUT if the item is small, you have to push extra buttons to tell the stupid scale that you are "skipping bagging" even when you've put it in the bag.

This takes FOREVER because there's a delay after every item you scan. I HATE THAT!!!
